I have the game since release and have gone hollow since.
I am pretty much at the beginning, and have troubles with the enemies at the chapel. I tend to have one or two good runs where i can kill most of them and then i die at the very last before getting further.
As a casual Souls player, that only plays through each game once, this one is pretty hard at the beginning. It gets easier as i get more gear, i guess.

I bought my ps4 fully aware of this and I'm fine. I play on pc and ps4. Why not get a ps4 now and enjoy the game while it's still fresh and specially before the community splits with dark souls 3 when you know you'll be owning a ps4 at some point in the future, really? That's exactly what I did and I don't regret it one bit. Bloodborne is easily the best game of this year by far and yeah, I played witcher 3, fallout 4 and metal gear 5.

Bloodborne is still my GOTY, but I've only played through it three times with the same character.
VIT + STR build with Kirkhammer all the way. So I haven't truly played around with any of the other weapons.

They buffed the shit out of +scaling gems. Abyssal Cold gems are now the best for ARC builds. All you have to do now in order to have the best possible ARC weapon is to have two cold abyssals and then equipping the elemental gem of your choice.
My cane with two abyssal radials and an arcane gem gains 414 damage and has a base damage of about 150 or so at +10. It's incredible.
Alright, so what are the stats to level in this game.
Currently I'm at 20 Vit, 18 End, 18 Str, 12 Skill, and I think everything else is near default levels. Am I fine to just focus on Str/Skill/Vit from here on in? I saw a katana weapon which looked pretty rad and I might try working towards, I'm guessing that would be a Skill investment?

Yeah, weapons like Ludwig's and Kirkhammer really make you change how you encounter enemies. It's kind of lame though, because the faster weapons easily outclass the big str weapons.
I like to use the Kirkhammer, but when they're both leveled up to max with great gems in them, the slow fully charged kirkhammer strike doesn't do that much more damage than a regular r1 sawblade, and you can get like 3 sawblade strikes in the time of 1 kirkhammer swing.

Yeah I realised End had stopped giving me much, but this character was created back when the game got released and nobody knew what the fuck they were doing (so I just did what was good in Dark Souls).

As a piece of advice, don't use the ludwig's blade. It can easily become overpowered and if you rely on it you'll be playing a gimped dark souls clone.

I've been using the simplest gun available, but honestly, I tend to use my axe two handed, or Kirkhammer both as a sword and as a mace.

How are the STR weapons, what's that fire/explosion hammer like?
Every enemy NPC hunter in the expansion is Crow tier. A lot of hitpoints, brutal and can heal. Sort of like mini bosses.
I started my second playthrough today after finally finishing the game for the first time. I went str the first time, but this time i'm going dex. Any tips? I'm finding the game to be significantly harder. Would I be right in thinking that I have to rely on parrying more than strength builds do.

Anyway, the Chikage utilizes its SKL-scaling in its normal mode. In trick mode, it gradually depletes your HP and deals BLT-based damage that, of course, scales with your BLT stat. So, the answer to which stat you should pump up is dependent upon which mode you plan on using the most. In my opinion, though, if you aren't going to utilize the Chikage's trick mode, you might as well just not use it at all.
If you want to use both forms equally well, I recommend going for the SKL softcap (25) and the BLT hardcap (50). The normal mode's damage won't be at its fullest potential, but it'll still be usable. Your trick mode can be utilized for serious business and then you also have the ability to make use of the high-damage guns such as the Evelyn and the Repeating Pistol.

It's a transformation, just like the one the beast rune gives you. Also, yes, there are plenty of benefits. The runes themselves give you small bonuses when equipped. (Aside from the new look, bonus to Beasthood for the Beast rune and bonus to item discovery for the Milkweed rune.)
If you're wearing the Beast Claws along with the Beast rune, you unlock a new moveset.
If you're wearing theKos Parasitealong with the Milkweed rune, you also unlock a new moveset.

Yes, it is the common consensus that Bloodborne is tougher than the others. The main reason for this is probably that there aren't any "safe" options that you can fall back on. The two best examples of these in the previous games were shields and magic/pyromancy. So, for a new player who isn't accustomed to focusing on moment to moment combat, it probably isn't too far fetched to think that they'd get their shit pushed in by the aggressive enemies.
As for an experienced Souls player, I found it as difficult as Dark Souls 1, but more difficult than 2 (2 was a pushover). Only cases where I had a tough time were some cheesy bosses/enemies (Ebrietas' charge-attack comes to mind).

My friend was reliant on shields and poise in Souls. He struggles because he can't tank through hits and doesn't understand evasive play and flanking the enemy.
I play efficiently, with use of rolls and iframes for defense. I use lighter armor sets with good stats for faster rolls and more defense. I have an easier time because I am practically catered to.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit how much a lack of beast mode annoyed me in the base game, but honestly who puts transforming hunters and a beasthood stat into the game without allowing the player to transform too.

I don't know why but when I saw this image I thought that the minigun would be a trick weapon (at first glance I thought that the Saw Cleaver is the back of the gun with the trigger and the middle part is obscured behind the hunter). Some sort of stick or pipe melee weapon that you combine with another element to create the minigun.
It would be sort of like the Rifle Spear expect the normal attacks are replaced by shooting attacks like horizontal burst fire, continuous fire, etc and the shoot button being a knockback attack. No running and slower walk speed but dodges still available.
Does it at least do good damage ? I'd like to try out a gun focussed Bloodtinge build that doesn't resolve around Evelyn and Bone Marrow. Also I don't suppose the double barrelled shotgun from the Project Beast trailer returned ?

Logarius is the hardest boss I've ever fought in a Souls game. Doing that fight at a low level for my BLT build was just miserable. Did you go into the fight with knowledge of what it contained or something? The elastic arms have very little tell and hit you from miles away out of nowhere, the snake shit comes out of nowhere and likely one shots you. I played the game blind, so dealing with them was't fun, especially after I got lost in the forbidden woods for ages.

Nah, it was a move that as stated before would kill you at high vit, like Ebreitas's charge, which I've actually recently survived as a phantom at 25 vit by going more to the side, and Micolash's call beyond because I got caught off guard and never saw it before.
I've never found myself needing more to survive in the base game.
