Just save before taking a new quest. Usually when you hit the point of no return it will fail any other quests you have with other factions. Also some quests even say 'If you proceed, you will be enemies with the Brotherhood of Steel. Would you like to proceed?'
I've not used power armour at all outside of when I was forced to. Mainly because I think I haven't earned it.
I mean I was forced into wearing it within 20 minutes of starting but that doesn't really fit with the idea of being a fish-out-of-water newcomer.

the game will warn you when one of the quests will make you a permanent enemy of another faction. that basically lets you know you're hitting the end of that line
institute route, it's the quest Mass Fusion
BoS, it's Tactical Thinking
Railroad, it's Underground/Undercover but only if you actually get past the "continue working with Father" step
Minutemen, you get their ending by attacking and killing Father at any point, then a quest for Garvey shows up. I also randomly got the minuteman quest while doing the BoS ending so it's unclear as fuck.

The building was boring the shit out of me until I retook The Castle and I actually got quite into building that, especially since the prebuilt cable system actually looked like something I'd like to do myself. But running out of shit is so goddamn boring.

there's this thing called the Beryllium Agitator that serves a major purpose in every faction's ending, it's basically the "never ending power" McGuffin. For the BoS, Dr. Li engineers it to to power Liberty Prime. For the Institute ending, you fuck with it and use it to trick Liberty Prime into eradicating the entire Brotherhood including the Prydwen. For the Railroad, a lot of their ending is just pretending to go along with the Institute

It wasn't just the sort of predictable clipping/collision bugs we've seen in Beth releases since Oblivion. The bugs are shitty to deal with and constantly break immersion, but they don't render the game broken to the point that say Arkham Knight was on PC or Unity was on PS4.

But you don't really have enough cores to use it when you get it. You get the one for the deathclaw but past that you're still out and about collecting cores for a while before you can use it again. Got to pick and choose which battles you want to bring it along in, then once you have a good stash of cores then you can start using it all the time.
I suppose mileage can vary, but it worked out pretty well for me. Past the deathclaw fight I only used it a couple times. Once for the castle and another time to clear out a big ass pile of super mutants. I still had to keep an eye out for normal armor to wear until I had collected enough cores that I could use it constantly. I still spent a pretty long time outside of it until I had collected enough cores. I thought it worked well enough.

No, the reason the giants hammer flung you into space is because the hammer itself has its own push box like most enemies and npcs do to prevent you from going through them etc. And since the hammer is as big as you are and animations in skyrim have unlimited force you are suddenly occupying the same physical space as the hammer, meaning your body is infinitely trying to escape that space.
The force and combination of the actual hit and the massive amount of physics clipping does that. The reason this happened was because the character's animation changed the same time they got beheaded, and when the new animation never starts it defaults to t-pose, and since the body was now a physics object itself it took all the infinite force of standing up and sent it into the sky, the head itself wasn't tied to said animation because it was already its own physics object when detatching

As I have said since Fallout 3 went full 1950s retro-futurism.
Large Communist faction made up the huge amount of Fifth Column Communists that were working for China during the Great War.
Have it that they were given the warning and hid in their own secret vaults and have returned to the wasteland to build a utopian Communist society.
The faction would be a sort of "anti-brotherhood of steel" they would try get technology to the "proletarians" of the wasteland, but they are too trusting and slightly incompetent so they end up giving powerful weaponry and equipment to raider groups and such who pretend to be "poor proletarian workers just trying to make their way".
Also they are brutal against all that don't politically align with them, though still their society is quite developed (since they have pre-war tech and China was in many ways ahead of the US in technology) and they have strong welfare systems and such, so life in the faction isn't actually bad compared to the wasteland.
Also the best part, have them based on old Chinese Communist propaganda (pic related) smiling faces and rosy cheeks and cheery propaganda songs, but this all masks a violent totalitarian, but "egalitarian" society.

It will tell you but some quests are mad niggerish. On my first playthrough I was rebuilding liberty prime but also happened to pick up the mass fusion quest from the institute which has an "inform brotherhood option". I DID NOT want to inform them but it was impossible not to if I ever wanted to hand in the liberty prime quest. Everytime you walk up to the proctor it automatically informs her and you can't hand in the liberty prime quest till afterwards. It's full fucking retard and I wouldn't doubt there are more than a couple instances just like this that other people have found.
Just another case of full voice acted dialogue wheels fucking over people.
