Blurry youtube screencaps work in the game's favor because you can't see the low texture resolution and low poly environment. Most of the ground is flat, low res textures with sprites for foliage, maybe a 3-4 poly rock here and there. It looks unbelievably bad in person. The character/mech/enemy models are pretty good though but the environment makes Fallout 4 look like the most technically impressive game ever. It's bad.

I was planning on beating all 3 Xenosaga games before I played this, but I can barely bring myself to get through the first game, I loved Xenogears and the first Xenoblade but this just feels so bland half the time.

Not really, no. Xenoblade X's exploration is basically the same shit you'd see in like, XIV or WoW. You CAN explore anywhere, but you're not really rewarded. The world only really exists for the quests, rather than the quests existing in the world. That's one of the key differences between a good open world game or not.
