I guess in a sense claymation is limited by relying on physical models, but if it gives a different tone to a work then it is a legitimate animation method. Period.
What you're doing is like saying found footage is outdated because it doesn't use track cams or wide angle lenses. What you're ignoring is that using found footage or claymation is a purposeful artistic decision, and the director knows that they can't do fancy stuff with it.
