>>317317126
I just found it disappointing. Coming off Brotherhood which did nearly everything right, with only a few major problems, and II which did EVERYTHING right, Revelations seemed so boring and dull and they completely missed what made 2 and Brotherhood good.
>>317317285
I liked this a lot, and I really felt for the characters. Unfortunately I can't play any more, as I've had to leave my PS3 behind.
The combat sucked at times though.
>>317317653

The idea of a 3d Megaman was cool to me at the time, and Axl is one of my favorite characters in the series.

>>317324457
was a parody of its genre, and had lots of star ocean fan service. and it has an awesome combat system, minus losing your stacked bonuses to a random crit
>>317324143

Pretty much any Suda game really.
I think Killer7 is the only one loved by the majority of people who played it
>>317324665
Also, if you count somewhat westernized RPGS with action combat systems:
Demon Souls
Dark Souls
Dragon's Dogma
>>317324581
The problem it had was that it was advertised as a horror game with action elements, but in reality, it was an action game with horror elements.
>>317324101
I dunno...it was a good game, but Lost Odyssey, Magna Carta 2, Xenoblade, The Last Story, Eternal Sonata, Arc Rise Fantasia, Fairy Fencer F, Atelier Escha & Logy, Blue Dragon, and Tales of Vesperia/Graces/Xillia/2 were better
>>317324101

>>317324751
I caught on early that was the case, but I agree. The commercials for this game were misguided just because of Mikami making it. I found it enjoyable enough once I got the crossbow and enough of a grasp at the janky combat.
Bayonetta
Nier
Catherine
Fuck /v/ those games are great and I loved them, sure bayonetta runs like vomit and nier has gameplay that makes you want to drive nails in your forehead, but fuck you anyway.
The story was worth it, never listening to you shits again.
>>317324143
For some reason I will never forget that cover. Saw it in a game magazine once and it just pops up in my head once in a while and I even do the pose. No idea why. Maybe someone knows this incredibly specific feel.
>>317324879
I liked it too.
It's a shitty game, don't get me wrong, but the story is emotionally engaging. It would be perfect in book form, but only shoots itself in the foot for being a game.

>>317324790
It changed some of the classes that characters were and made it so you could turn anyone into anything on the fly. The game wasn't originally based around it so it ended up making the game extremely easy.
>>317324941
Wut, /v/ loves all those games
>>317316917
story was dull at times, gameplay was fun, gunpllay was fun. graphics where nice, and attention to detail was great. solid 8/10
>>317324879
then you have objectively terrible taste, if gone home had been an lgbt novel or film instead of an lgbt game it would have been instantly forgotten, people only gave it praise because they're in such a rush to say "look at how far games have come"
When I was playing it I couldn't believe how dumb it was, I imagined my character rolling her eyes while finding all of her sister's SUPER SEKRIT diary pages lying around the house when she went to get her car keys or something, then calling her on her cell phone and telling her never to pull that shit again.

No.
I can stomach a lot of shit. I even enjoyed Heavy Rain.
But Beyond Two Souls is absolute garbage. I swear the game is one giant story about how women should kill themselves. Seemed like I got a "Would you like to commit suicide?" prompt every other chapter.
>>317325285
Bayonetta is a victim of both console warriors and contrarians pretending to hate platinum now. Catherine would be hated by "anti-weebs".
>>317325285
You need to learn to filter out the baiting shitposters, there's always gonna be a couple faggots shitting on every game, but the general consensus for all three of those games is that they're great
Nier probably gets shitposted more often than the other two, but for each person talking about how it's garbage with bad gameplay you have another talking about how it's one of the most beautiful experiences in video games

Lulu was an all-destroying goddess of death for me by the time I got to Bikanel, and she could have carried me through the rest of the game if I chose to do that.
>>317325285
the only criticism I've ever seen of catherine is that the narrative only really makes sense if you go neutral for most of the game and falls apart if you go solely for one girl or the other from the start, oh and I've seen some complain that the gameplay is too hard, no one ever called me a fatlus for liking it.
Still my favorite fallout, after having tried the first and beating NV multiple times.
No doubt NV is the better game, but you just can't beat 3 with its constant sense of dread and despair, struggling to survive in a long dead world.
I literally can't put into words how great post apocalypse DC is for me.

I even agree with most (if not all) of the complaints these got, I just happened to find plenty of other little things in each that I enjoyed. Although Oblivion also required mods to achieve fun status, naturally.
Might even go back and give Fallout 3 a try, granted it has enough mods to fix the more basic problems like NV did.

It's only awkward when you want to ditch Katherine for Catherine. Because Vincent keeps acting guilty and saying he needs to fix things. Meanwhile if you want the reverse it still works because you can keep trying to push Catherine away only to wake up with her in surprise.

well it was the first waifubait game that actually clicked with me, they really put a lot of effort into trying to make a girl for everyone and it showed, I ended up with Panne personally because I have a thing for strong women. You know it really does concern me what I've seen of the new FE game though, there is a line you have to walk to keep the waifubaiting from being insultingly pandering. Awakening was nearly perfect in that regard but IF seems to have quite clearly crossed it, I find it very disturbing.
As for the rest of your post I've been playing FE games for years and I've never understood the incredibly autistic elitism that infests many of its fans. Its not like these games have ever had that much strategic depth when the enemies never plan more than 1 turn ahead.

Crash Twinsanity's biggest flaw is just that it's a buggy mess. You seriously can't walk like 10 feet in that game without breaking something. If it was polished up and completed, it'd probably be pretty damn good. The somewhat linear level path with a story worked pretty well overall, and as you said the music was amazing.
>>317325749
wait isn't 2 considered very good?
>>317325908
It's been made really soloable. It's not too late, but any quest that requires you to gather items is going to make you literally gather the items since no one bothers selling stuff on the AH except end-game items.
That being said you don't have to do any of those quests but a small few, and you can level up extremely fast if you do the Rhapsody missions to unlock the permanent exp boosts.
Got dismissed by most because it doesn't really break the typical turn based RPG mold I'm terms of gameplay.
However, the gameplay was still serviceable and it excelled in all other aspects. Got overshadowed a lot by Dark Cloud.

I don't understand why people hate Twin Snakes.
MGS is focused on being a "cinematic experience", why wouldn't you want to play the version of the game that looks and sounds undeniably better?
>>317326949
Jesus, no wonder people always say this remake was retarded.
>>317326085
The main problem it had (besides not being like the amazing E3 footage, or even Bioshock 1) was just how easy the game was. Even at when my computer took a 5fps nosedive I had no trouble killing mooks, and vigors were only needed on maybe Handymen and Firemen for me.
Otherwise I loved all the little ideas and aesthetics that survived the last-minute redo, especially the sudden Comstock House and New York shit.
>>317326337

I get what youre saying anon but no.
Awakening you can literally pair up two units to support each other and they will just murder anything and everything that comes at them for the majority of enemies.
As for the waifu shit, its whatever you don't even have to participate in it if you don't want to, the problem is thats what everyone seemed to focus on. It was pandering and it was insulting as a long time FE player but thats just me. And as for my one dimensional characters argument, it still stands. Almost every character was a boring fuck with one defining trait.
>I'm a girl but I'm tough!
>Nobody notices me!
>I'm a slick french nigga

>>317320883
In my opinion, the gameplay was honestly really solid. The only issue was the edgy 14-year-old vibe it gave off.
Sure it was pretentious as hell, and the story was a plothole-ridden mess, and the gunplay was pretty bad, and the ai was terrible but... man I don't even know why I like this game. It's seriously pretty mediocre but... just something about it that makes me wanna replay it every now and then.

I honestly really enjoy the first half of the game, because that's when exploration is encouraged most.

Not the whole game mind you.
I dislike it as much as the next guy.
There's just one level in it that's fantastic.
It's an abandoned asylum I believe.
The whole tone shifts and it turns into a pretty effective horror game for that segment.
>>317323876
I loved this fucking game. I mean, the game itself wasn't great, I just had fun making a whole bunch of crazy vehicles the game never intended for.
I think my peak achievements were a walking mecha with jumpjets + working hangar and a plane that used a physics glitch to go "warp speed" (got you across any map in seconds, but would explode on impact).
>>317324212
You call that a friend?
>>317317126
I agree. I was asking people if I should play it, and many said "NO IT IS TERRIBLE!"
Played it back to back with Brotherhood, and while it isn't perfect I had a bit of fun with it and I thought it capped off Ezio's and Altair's story pretty well.
ACIII on the other hand? I am playing that one at the moment and it is the opposite. Jesus fuck how bad can you screw up a game with both the overworld, missions AND combat all at once in a sequel?
>>317327147

You know what, now that I think about it, whenever I replay it I usually lose interest around the time the whole "alternate universe" business is introduced. MGSV TPP had the most refined controls. MGS4 had the best balance of level design with the gameplay limitations. You can even do a Operator run where you only use the starting pistols Otacon gives you or be even more out of your mind and only use the AK for the whole game and boss fights.
Fuck you I thought it was okay.
The controls were pretty shit, but I enjoyed it, especially the multiplayer.
I tend to enjoy every game I play in some capacity. As such, I don't really have a good point of reference for what a shitty game is.
Oftentimes I'll play a game at launch and when I read up on it after beating it there'll be a huge controversy or something with people boycotting the devs and the like.
Could be that I'm just stupid and can entertain myself with simple things. I'd be fine if that were the case, ignorance is bliss and all that.
Makes browsing /v/ a bit frustrating though because I can't really relate to anyone.
I can't even remember the last time I got mad at anything.

>>317316917
DmC is a genuinely great game and the cuhrayzee general in /v/ fucking confuses me because they think Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae is a better action title when it doesn't have even half the amount of effort put into the gameplay mechanics.

>>317327147
>I don't understand why people hate Twin Snakes.
It's trying too hard with slapstick humor in the cutscenes, and the mgs2 gameplay doesn't gel well with the level layouts of the first game. It's not bad, it's just lukewarm.
>>317328781
>DmC is a genuinely great game
The skill ceiling is low as fuck in DmC so its no wonder they think its better.

>>317328870
>playing a game for points and ranks
Yeah, nah. I'm playing it for the game mechanics itself and the sheer amount of shit I can do in battle and how most attacks are useful so its just fight how you want, along with the learning enemy attack patterns and how to dodge and shit that is a stape of action games.
>>317320883
Not him, but I got this as a Christmas present when I was younger and it was really fun. I looked up a gameplay video for le nostalgia and it IS really edgy.

>>317329027
Well that and most of the boss fights weren't designed for shooting in first person, especially Ocelot since you can actually shoot between the bars.
>>317329007
I still don't honestly like Ninja Gaiden (preferred the NES platformers), but I will always respect how aggressive the AI was. Those guys keep you on your toes.I know the filename says 3. That's because it's the 3rd webm of NG i have.
>>317329091
Anon, are you fucking retarded? The point and rank system correspond directly to the fucking gameplay mechanics. You shouldn't be given a high rank unless you can execute a long combo without getting hit. The fact that it ACTUALLY FUCKING rewards you with the highest possible rank for a fucking QTE is insulting to the player.
DmC is God of War pretending it's not God of War. At least fucking GoW understands that it's not nearly the level of complexity as DMC or Bayonetta or Ninja Gaiden, whereas DmC says "HEY GUYS I HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT OF DEPTH AS 3 AND 4 LOOK AT ME"
>>317329221

In 1, all you had to do was keep attacking enemies to build style (and not get hit, of course). In all the other games, you HAD to pull off different moves to build your style meter, avoiding getting interrupted in the process as well.
>>317329472
I tried to play the PS2 Shinobi game, but realized that it has inverted horizontal camera controls... horizontal. I actively refuse to play any game that has that. The second I adjust, it fucks me for every other game I play.
I'm not sure what the opinion on this game is here but all my friends hated it. Maybe it's how you play it, there's a lot of stuff I would have missed if I had played it run n gun and not on the highest difficulty.
I'm convinced most people complain about the series because they're normie games with very few yearly improvements.
>>317329607
Generally /v/ loves the Metro games.
Could've been a lot better but i still liked it
>>317329284
yeah, the aggressive AI is nice. It's not like other action games, where the enemies pretty much just stand around and only the bosses will really try and kill you. In Ninja Gaiden every random enemy wants you dead and will try hard to make it happen.
>>317329627
I find myself interested in sports games lately.
I think it's because I lack free time, and they let you just knock out a match here and there.
I don't even know if I should be ashamed of this or not but I am ashamed of how much I enjoyed a sonic game.
>>317329330
God of War is slow and has less gameplay mechanics though and has less emphasis on combat.
>long combos without getting hit
THAT'S NOT THE FUCKING POINT OF A FUCKING ACTION GAME
Its about killing enemies while avoiding getting hurt. And that's hard to do unless you learn enemy attack patterns and get a good handle on what your abilities are, what they do, and how you as a player are affected by them.
>>317329384
Skill ceiling is a stupid fucking term made up by "pros" to determine how a game plays.
It typically refers to how you play the game, and when the game's mechanics no longer accommodate higher skill levels.
Typically a skill ceiling focuses on how the developers expect the players to play. In proper games like DMC3, the devs expect the players to play well, so they implement mechanics to reward the player, and difficult enemies to challenge them.
In DmC, they expect the player to be some random joe who's shit at this genre but the game is fine with that, they can be whatever skill type they like.
That's why fans of the genre fucking hate DmC most of the time, and why casuals flock to it and praise it.

If you can get past the lame controls and elevators, it is a great game with a certain magic to it that 2 had less of and 3 had none of (save the Citadel DLC)I liked exploring planets in the Mako
>>317329843
Anon, its completely useless and serves no purpose to have your goal to just have long combos and not get hurt. Defeating your opponent should always first and foremost be top priority. Not doing it in some fancy cool way without getting hurt. Not getting hurt is a good thing. I advocate for dodging attacks. But the point is to defeat the enemy and learn how to do so while taking as little damage as possible. The objective is to defeat the enemy.
>>317329417

It wasn't a joke ending when MGS2 came out.
Lacked a lot of polishment, but I liked the gun mechanics and using the bow at the ending felt amazing.
>>317328667

>>317329982
If every game under that genre believed that, there'd be a massive fucking problem. All of the sudden it would straddle the game mechanics and make it too easy, making it so that all you do is hit the enemy and dodge at the right time. You wouldn't have shit like W101 chaining together different forms to obliterate enemies, or Bayonetta equipping different items to your liking so that you can build combos, or using your pistols in DMC to juggle an enemy in the air before you can get up to them and finish them off with a combo.
Ultimately it's kill the enemies and don't get hurt, but if there's nothing beyond that, the game is shallow, bland, and boring. Even God of War understood this, giving you different combos and allowing you to pull off one long chain of attacks that aren't interrupted by dodges or anything like that, letting you juggle enemies and clear groups with a well done combo.
>>317330085
I read that in his voice. Ahh good times mang.
>>317330085
I agree completely, the third game was literally all shooting.Either at Cerberus, Reapers, or the occasional Geth. In 2, you at least had the goal of getting to know the characters better and the game relied more on using squadmates powers to help proceed I don't think I ever once had to use a squadmates power in 3 since I was already carrying like 4 or 5 abilities and was basically a walking tank.
>>317330085
Different anon Herr
I didn't care much for the second one beyond Miranda inexplicably attractive outfit and the Geth storyline.
The combat in particular felt way worse than 1 overall though there were some improvements
It felt like they tried to force the game to be more like an FPS but lost their vision halfway through

>>317324683
I don't like awakening either but this was so damn boring. The plot is dull as rocks, aesthetics unappealing, a lot of your units are absolute garbage and feel lifeless, plus the ridiculous gaidan chapter requirements. Some of the maps were fun, but the whole thing felt like a struggle to complete.

Or you can just kill them. Still pretty fucking casual games, except for hardest difficulty.
>>317330085
Yeah, ME3 was a fucking mess.Honestly, I mostly hated ME3 because of how it completely obliterated the Illusive Man's character. When I found out where they were going with that I legitimately considered stopping then and there. Fuck you Bioware, how the shit did you rope Martin Sheen into that script?
>>317329607
Metro 2033 is a solid FPS, especially if you play Ranger.
Not quite as good as F.E.A.R, sure, but still fun.
>>317330403
>It felt like they tried to force the game to be more like an FPS but lost their vision halfway through
That's exactly what happened. They pared back on the RPG mechanics to a huge degree and focused on making it more of an action game. Still, I think 2 had some decent characters and level design.
>>317319230
That gameplay is want I want out of a spiderman game just make it in a open ended gta city and I will fork over a lot of money.

At least it's not the tie-in books.
>>317316917
Actually a pretty fucking fun if content shallow fast paced FPS with really cool movement capabilities, and a fun victory/lose state at the end of the map with the evacuations.
Running and jumping around is fun and fleshed out, and getting into a mecha that's just as SANIC as you is really fuckin' hype.
I don't get why Splatoon gets a lot of praise for having fast and unique movement options whereas this got cubic tons of shit, I love both of them.

It wasn't a bad game, but it made a lot of questionable decisions (and not just story-wise). I don't know if I enjoyed Jak3 more because it was better overall, or because it had fewer frustrating escort missions.
>>317316917
Seriously, fuck you all. I want a sequel.

The combat is inconsistent as fuck. Precision doesn't mean shit in the game anymore. You can time a perfect roll and still be hit.

>Miranda
I fucking despise that cunt. Like, she's so fucking annoying with the worst bullshit excuse for "character flaws" I've ever fucking seen in a game.
I get the whole idea of the "too perfect" concept in storywriting, but they pulled it off so fucking poorly. It was never her struggle with herself, it never put any attention on maybe she's struggling with people having too high of an opinion of her, and she needs to live up to their expectations, but it's leading to some sort of inner struggle with herself causing maybe some sort of suicide attempt that the Commander could prevent.
You know, like good writing.
Instead it's "WAAH WHY DID YOU MAKE ME A FLAWLESS HUMAN BEING I HATE YOU"
Fuck Miranda, she dies every single fucking time I replay ME2.

Jak 3 was less frustrating in general. 2 could have used some more checkpoints in certain places.

>>317329607
My only problem with these games is the stealth system is so counter-intuitive. It took me forever to finally realize the game just wants you to walk right through enemies lines of sights because you are literally invisible in the dark.
>>317316917
Dragon Age 2 - Characters are better than most people give them credit for, most of the quests tie into the central conflicts of the game and most importantly, I'm a sucker for games like this that focus on a personal story on a far smaller scale. The gameplay is trash for the most part, though.
Mass Effect 3 - Really, the game's pretty fucking good up until the actual ending, so I feel people treat the game a tad unfairly.
MGS4 - It's a beautiful train wreck.
>>317324923
I liked it a lot when I was younger.
The only good walking simulator on the market.
Stanley Parable was decent, but got old fast. The Beginner's Guide had a message, and delivered it in a completely non-pretentious way. It's definitely overpriced for what you get, but it's effective in a way no other walking sim is.
It's not preachy tumblrina bullshit like Gone Home, it's not pretentious bullshit written by a liberal arts major like Dear Esther, it's a simple message told in an elegant manner.
>>317328667

I truly am the arrival of Satan himself. Although, to respond to that, while ME3 obviously has issues beyond just the ending, when you look at the vast majority of backlash it's entirely focused on that fucking end. Also, I felt most of the characters, aside from whoever is the Human Male party member in this game, are fairly well developed, and the main missions have a good structure from what I can remember, although some of the side shit is questionable.
>>317331604
>It's almost assuredly not true eventsIt isn't, "Coda" is just an analogue for the developer. I doubt that if it was all true the developer would've even put this on Steam, much less take money for it.

>>317320701
I did a recent run because the 10th anniversary was earlier this week. Mechanically, this game is so close to being the shit but it just does not have the polish for it. The camera is subpar, homing attacks are just inconsistent enough to be infuriating, Shadow sometimes goes careening off the stage because of interacting with the stage design or button prompts in retarded ways, stuff like that. But the idea of a lightning-fast action game with varied design and morality-based branching path progression is not a bad one, and Shadow does occasionally shine in spots. Now the story and tone is another matter entirely but Shadow could easily have been a much better game than it is with just a little more polish.

Fez actually had something unique that I found interesting.
While Cave Story and Mulana (I've only beated cave story) are both are good games, they don't really bring anything mechanically interesting or unique to the table like FeZ does.
I really liked fez, so I'm also biased as fuck.
>>317331942
Well, first and only.
I tried playing through it on the "hero mode" difficulty to see if things were better, but I halfway through the first temple, realized that it wasn't getting better and put the game away forever.
It's the reason I'm so terrified of the Wii U Zelda game. I know Shigeru said that Skyward Sword was essentially a mistake, but companies say a lot of things.

>>317331842
No, we've had this conversation a million times before and you ME3 defenders always get blown the fuck out. The characters in the game are awful. Characters from previous games are relegated to short sidequests. Many quests are simply walking from one point to another with no combat and exploration involved. Kai Leng. Illusive Man's character being butchered. EDI and Joker's bickering turning into an actual romance. Kai fucking Leng. Fuck off retard and take your shit taste with you.
>Mass Effect 3 is an amazing game with all the DLC
You mean the DLC featuring the musical sing along with Tali? I LOVE THAT!!!
>>317316917
Yeah the battles were simplistic and the overworld didn't have exploration, but music is great and dungeons were explorable, and I liked how weapons could be used to solve puzzles/get around.
>>317331407
What's hilarious is the combat system and stealth sections for Shattered Dimensions weren't horrible, they just needed better balancing and optimization because falling through the world's floor for 5 minutes is so much fun.

Don't care what anyone says, the multiplayer was one of the better horde modes out there by the time it was released, and even a year beyond that. All dem characters. All dem weapons. All dem maps. For free.

ME3 is garbage. It was garbage when it came out, it's garbage today.
>>317332326
You are not alone.
I loved everything about it. All they ever needed to do was add more content, and maybe cut down on the number of polygons they put in pots and crates.
>>317332452
It started shaping up real nice near the end.

>>317317126
Eh I kind of liked it but it felt really underwhelming after the cool stories in 2 and Brotherhood

>>317332424
Doesn't change the fact that it brings nothing unique to games.
I'd rather have a game that perfects an existing genre than shits itself trying to reinvent one.
It's nice when a game DOES reinvent a genre and does it well, but Fez is not one of those times.
What can I say?I thought it was fun
>>317332651
That's because it's the best Fire Emblem in the west.
>>317332549
>Doesn't change the fact that it brings nothing unique to games.
As if any game has to?
People bitch if things change up more than they do about them staying the same. Hell, we praise games that hearken back to the "good old days".
Fez was hardly spectacular, but it was a nice visual romp with some fair puzzles among the bullshit. It wasn't worth hating for that, or even because its creator is an unstable drama whore.

>>317331262
I feel this game gets most of its hate just because it's more obviously flawed than most Zelda games. Not like it didn't have its share of great ideas either but it was pretty clearly an experimental effort, albeit one that the series had been slowly heading towards since what, Wind Waker? In any case, I got my 2 playthroughs out of it but fuck if I'll start a 3rd, and hopefully Nintendo actually did learn something from this experience. As decent as it was, I'm fine with Zelda never really being like this again. One game of diminished exploration in favor of turning everything, even combat, into a puzzle was enough.

I just think the game is dull. Hell, I played a game on Newgrounds recently that, despite the game becoming unfun in the later stages, it was extremely fun for the first 2 or 3 worlds. It wasn't inherently a unique idea, but it was fun. Kinda reminded me of the golden era of NG flash games. If Fez had imitated NG flash games instead of trying to be Braid 2.0, it would have been MUCH better.
