I don't know what people thinks but I think not being able to interact much with the enemies make horror games way more intense.

Honestly, it didn't even need the alt-tab spook or THAT part to spook me. This image with the music and how it lingers was extremely unsettling. Especially if you're shit like I am and she starts crying.

Standard subversive stuff.
Fella goes into it thinking he's in for a qt puzzle game, but weird shit happens like strange .txt files and pictures appearing in the install folder as well as THAT part.

Nothing deep, but it worked for most people who played it. Also metsu mode is fun shit.

Why not try it out for yourself and see it without getting spoiled too much? Game is called Irisu Syndrome: https://cheerfultomboy.wordpress.com/irisu/

As a kid, these monstrosities always made me outright dread venturing as far as the Magic Crafters world. The fact that they always tended to sneak up behind me while I was exploring and were nigh-on invincible when I tried to take them on without the fairy's power-up just made them the symbol of fear for my young mind.
>>

One of the worst nightmares ive ever had was being underwater, and seeing large monstrous shadows in the distance. Knowing something massive was there, but it wasnt the shape of any animal i had seen before.

I haven't played many horror games, I'm sure there are scarier things, but these guys almost gave me a heart attack every time they showed up.
>>
The scariest thing was a flash game with some jap girl, then she runs at the screen and fills the frame, you can hear a load cracking as her neck bends so her face fills the frame.

I saw it once without sound and thought nothing of it, then watched it with sound and it was terrifying. The sound is really jarring.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? I think you scroll down a page with still pictures and writing, then the last image is animated and the page scrolls to it by itself.

Probably the bathtub jump scare in Eternal darkness.

Later parts of system shock 2 used to freak me the fuck out, but the graphics just don't do it for me 15 years later.

FEAR and its expansions have some very tense moments. There's a particular one halfway into the first game, where you're in the office building. If you get too close to one of the cubicles, Alma does a superfast crab walk at you out of nowhere. The radio static only actually plays while she's doing it, so you don't get any warning, and it's such a short distance you don't even time to prepare for it.

People still freak the fuck out and empty their shotguns into that one cubicle.

The house I grew up in was legit haunted.

There were several rooms no one would go into, and whenever some part of the house was falling apart, you'd magically be told about it just by being in the house.

For instance, there was a summer when my window had a crack in it. No one got to sleep for days until we fixed it.

Every night for my whole life, at around 2 am, there would be knocking from somewhere in my room.

It was always there, so I didn't think about it until I was much older. My assumption was that it was just pipes in the wall, or a window sill finally cooling off from a hot day, but when I moved out, I realized that it was someone tapping the closet door behind my bed.

There was this one time my mom decided we needed to fuck about with the furniture. Beds had to be turned around, all the little tables had to be relocated, and so on.

This didn't go over well, and lasted less than one day.

The room above the kitchen is the one place mom won't even go into. You can hear booted foot steps from it even during the day.

There was this korean webcomic that like starts out doing the usual creepy buildup in asian psychological horror, but when the reveal happens, the creepy buildup subject (a new girl in town iirc) turns around and has this really fucked up face. It's done as an animation, so you actually see her turn around. There might be sound with it as well. The most fucked up part, though, is that when you scroll up after that, EVERY PANEL IS THE SAME ANIMATION OF HER TURNING AROUND

Fucking christ, this.

Spiders in general can fuck right off. I love Ty the Tasmanian Tiger but to this day the spiders in that game make it absolutely unplayable. When I was a kid, I cheated to always have the kaboomerangs so I could kill them easily, but that didn't stop them from scaring me shitless. In the spirit of fariness, I would ONLY use the kaboomerangs for spider destruction until I had properly unlocked them

Also, Baby Sheegoths in Metroid Prime ensured that scaredy-cat child me never even made it to Boost Ball/Wave Beam.

But I got over that one pretty easily. Now I fuckin' love Metroid Prime. Spiders can fuck off though.

That one got me good. I remember. It plays a spooky-ass noise as her neck turns 180 to reveal her fucked up face. And yeah, if you scroll that shit up (which I immediately did out of panic), it only gets worse.

Nah. Fuck that noise.

This god damn fucker from King Kong. It's fucking jaw/teeth jutting outward made it look vicious and the fact that you have to let it chase you around for a time is fucking horrible. What's worse?

When it chases you and is nearing you, it arches its head down and opens its mouth like it's getting ready to fucking have you for dinner. It kills you in two hits and the fact that it almost always looks at you while it lumbers towards you is the worst.

I'd say it is one of the most tense and threatening enemies in a game I have played to date.
>>
>>316884845
Nigger are you serious? I've played FEAR like 5 times and it's not even a little scary other than the stupid jumpscare in the first level where a face flashes on the screen, and even that is just mild. It's an action game first, an inflitration game second, and only after that does it seem they focused on actually making it scary.

I sleep on the topmost floor of the house. Every night, just as I'm about to fall asleep, I hear people on the roof. As in, the clear noise of skin from at least 10 people, like they're barefoot or slapping the ground with their hands.

I really, REALLY hope my roof is being used as a spot for an orgy.

Because if you've lived somewhere for so long the creepy shit becomes routine, then it doesn't matter.

I've seen some shit in that house, man. You don't even want to know. The worst was when my parents fucked with the furniture in my room, and I experiencing living nightmares until they put everything back the way it had been since they moved there like 20 years prior.

To this day, that room looks EXACTLY the same. Mom doesn't like going in there unless she has to

Other than that one time, I never felt that there was an evil presence in the house. It was just a very commanding one.

The very first time you see Pyramid Head in SH2 still spooks me. You hear a scream from down a narrow hallway, and when you go to investigate there's metal bars halfway through blocking the way. And on the other side of the bars, just barely visible, is Pyramid Head silently staring at you. The first time I played it I obviously had no idea what it was, but on replays it gave me chills.

>tfw legit fucked up

The romanticizing of this in the media really irritates me. It's not fun to want to kill yourself. It's not fun to wish you never wake up when you go to sleep. It's not fun to have nightmares. It's not fun to hear things or see things. It's not fun to have soul crushing loneliness at all times because everyone is afraid of you. It's not fun to be perfectly fine one minute, and then think you're going to die.

I wish I would meet a girl or something that is just as messed up as I am so that we could support each other and end the loneliness, but that'll never happen.

Sorry for ranting.

Not scariest, but recent thing to scare me is the enemy they added in the last Exanima content patch.

>Enter new area. A little to empty and quiet.
>Find my first locked door. As I click on it, something roars and starts pounding behind it.
>I figure I'm safe and it's locked behind the door.
>Hear it smashing and roaring off-screen, eventually disperses.
>As I'm casually exploring rooms at the end of a long hallway, wave after wave of skeletons suddenly come at me.
>Fend them off after a while, but didn't lose much health while completely forgetting about the creature at this point.
>Venture deeper and see a busted gate, but before I can go further I hear the roar again.
>Never seen it before, thinking it looks like some generic demon or large humanoid.
>Ready myself while facing an open door-way.
>It comes from the side-hall out of fucking nowhere, throws me into a wall.
>Try to get up but it knocks me back over like a toy.

It's literally impossible to be scared by horror games/movies. Whenever I'm with friends I have to pretend. How do I join in on the fun, bros? I've played/watched all the classic horror games and I just can't seem to ever find the thrill of getting frightened.

Yeah, mom's lived there since the 1970s.

The biggest room in the house is the one above the kitchen, obviously a master bedroom sort of deal. Also has all the air, heating, and water pump in a side room, and a big ass closet where the bad guy in a Bond movie would store his expensive suits.

I've spent a grand total of about one night in that room. Few things in live are as disturbing to me as considering going into this one room. I always expected there to be some old army officer giving me the thousand yard stare at me from across the room, or handloading revolver cartridges in a corner.

Not him, but I lived in a haunted house in Jacksonville, FL where my family would hear and see things often, usually little girl noises. We never knew why. There'd always be noises coming from my closet at night. Usually crying or whispering. I'd be too scared to move and just sit there and sweat. My closet had a lock on the outside of it for some reason which always bothered me. My dad took it off and replaced it with a normal door handle and that night I heard giggling and laughing from behind the door for the first time and then the noises stopped.

Sure. Most of my city friends would agree to one sleepover.

Just one, then they'd ask about the late night knocking sounds. Some kids were stupid enough to go into the master's bedroom, which ended many friendships.

I'll inherit the house in a couple years, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to cope with living there. I'm not my mom, and the house doesn't respect me enough to just let me move back in.

Once I woke up a little ahead of my body, so I felt numb and couldn't lift myself up or raise my arms. I was a little panicky so I stared at the floor. I watched a bunch of little shadows skitter around my floor until my body started to get the pins-needles feeling all over.

It wasn't so bad except that I have a large poster of the film Perfect Blue by Satoshi Kon, and on the poster the woman is staring ahead, so it looks like she's always watching me from wherever I am in the room.

Pretty spoopy for me.

There's a little bust next to it. You can't miss it.

If you're just slightly insane, the eyes will actually start observing you.
If you're close to drained on sanity, the statue itself is looking at you, and twisting its head to follow you.

There's also a little horse like object pretty close to it. With super low sanity, the horse starts running in place, and you can hear whoosing winds.

Talking about horror and seeing Spongebob reminded me that there's an episode that plays out like a fucking Ito manga. Not a very good one, mind you, but similar (with humor, I guess). But it's so far into the seasons that I'm sure no one else has ever seen it.

I suggest people look up SpongeHenge. Maybe it's not really scary, but there's some kind of an unsettling atmosphere to it. /x/ used to make up scary cartoon myths, and maybe it's just me, but I feel like that episode plays out like one.

There wasn't anything particularly memorable that comes to mind.
Really the part that was spooky was that natives are serious about skinwalkers, and talking about them is supposed to attract them.
So you could be out camping, having a good time, telling stories, and someone would mention skinwalkers and the natives would get all freaked out and tell you not to talk about it and then they're be on edge the rest of the night.
It's a cultural thing but it has spook potential.

Well, when I was 10 I got scared at night and snuck across the hall into my dad's room and climbed into his bed. He's pretty no-nonsense and I never saw him get scared before. When I crawled over him kicked at the air fast and hard and I just laid down and passed out (instasleep when I slept with my parents idk why) right after hearing him go "what in the hell".

The next morning before school he gave me a plate of waffles like normal and I started eating while watching cartoons and he goes "By the way, a woman in a blue dress followed you to the bed last night, I kicked at her and she disappeared."

Really would have rather you said nothing at all, dad.

They're from Native American folklore
A wendigo is a sort of demon with a humanoid body and a stag's head that possesses you and makes you eat people.
A skinwalker is another sort of demon that can take the form of any animal, even humans, and has malicious intent, usually to harm you or murder you.
The thing about them is that they're unnaturally fast and aren't quite good enough to perfectly impersonate people, so they talk with really disturbing speech quirks and things like that.
Also, they're supposed to be attracted to fear and people talking about them.

My story isn't as great as that, because the ghosts at old prisons are malicious. They want to destroy and hurt people.

my fucking sides. It's funny because that has happened to me on more than one occasion. It was even better when I was on some Russian DayZ server back when it was a mod on Arma 2 and they disabled side chat so there was basically no communication unless you were in direct chat. Anyway, I'm running a little ways north of Elektro at night and I hear some dude yell "GIMME UR BEANS" over the mic and at this point i'm shitting my pants because the only way you could communicate is thru direct chat. so I did what any normal person would do and take cover as best as I could in the middle in an open field, in a bush and try to find out where this fucker is. I'm waiting there for about 5 minutes and no one has come out so I start to make my way more north. then shortly after I see someone in the chat get banned for hacking, so that may have been who was talking but I never saw the fucking asshole. Scared the shit out of me.

>Three thousand years from now, a race of strange cyborgs (presumably of alien origin) have appeared in Jellyfish Fields. "SpongeHenge" has become a major tourist attraction with many tourists taking pictures of the sight. The cyborgs wonder who made the statues and why they were made. The only clue was that the melodious sound the wind makes as it enters the giant pores of the statues entertains and attracts jellyfish. Then SpongeBob's laugh can be heard, ending the episode.

It even has an Ito ending.

The scariest videogame moment for me is when you get stabbed to death by Aoi in rapelay.

Than out of no where a blood gurgling war cry of panic and laughter blast into your fucking ears from the headset as you watch in pure terror as the bitch goes SSJ4 on your ass with a knife and sticks you in the chest over and over with blood splattering everywhere.

I'll never ever forget it. It fucking traumatized me.

When I was younger, I tended to be really hyper sometimes, especially when it was time for bed. So my older sister, who was 5 years older, would tell me that ghosts would come out at the chime of midnight to make sure I was asleep. And if I was still awake, well my imagination took care of the rest.

Needless to say, I used to have recurring nightmares about this scrawny bitch with ragged hair and bloodshot eyes. Her fingers were like long spider legs, she would gently stretch out from doors and over counters. Then she'd scream an unholy scream and start tearing into me.

Up until I was maybe 13, I'd still see her around when I went to sleep. Shit was weird

Have you ever been in a late night /v/ thread with almost zero shitposting, that feels like people are are a tight knit group talking about their interests/experiences, and mods not giving a fuck about enforcing every tiny little rule if something isn't totally on topic? Things like late night elder scrolls lore threads, late night STALKER threads, late night cyberpunk/90s remembrance/lamenting threads, and so on?

If you have then those give a similar vibe. You are missing out on something nice, but it's not so much that you should feel too bad about. It's just one thread type. As for memorable horror/tense moments in vidya, those are things that do stick to your mind and you remember fondly when they come up, but are hardly as great if you try to relive them, so I wouldn't kick myself over that. Lastly friends watching some horror game/movie together, that's just bs. No one truly enjoys that for the horror as much as spending time together.

The most memorable experiences people have with horror are if they had an unforgettable unexplainable supernatural experience as a kid with their friends, but that only happens to very few people.

All in all you are missing out, but not so much that you should feel too bad about.

Also have you seen the movie The Thing (1982)? It's more tension and suspense than horror, and it might be your cup of tea.

There was some /x/ recommended wikipedia page of this abandoned place a scientist saw some things in, until he detected that there was this constant low frequency in the area, which is close to the resonant frequency of the eye.

I have to experiences. This first thing has happened to me for as long as I can remember. I'm not sure if it counts as a dream or not, or just like, my half awake mind in the mornings, but before I wake up in the morning maybe once every three months or so for the past like 15 years I see this weird shit. It feels like I'm intentionally trying to stare at the smallest fucking spec of existence in front of me. There's this loud, droning, buzzing, humming sound coming from every direction that honestly makes it so I can't think. Everything looks like this violently shaking, vibrating red, black, and some unidentifiable dark color all in some kind of big TV static sort of storm taking up my vision. This goes on for a minute or so before that sound gets unbearably loud, and I wake up. Hasn't happened in a while, so I'm probably due for another soon.

Other than that, I'm 90% sure my old bedroom in my mom's house is still haunted. About 3 years ago, I just woke up one night because I had to piss. I felt like something was watching me, and at first kinda go "eh whatever I own like three cats". One is already asleep right in front of me, and I used to sleep facing a wall. Then I hear my mom get up to use the bathroom, and hear the other two cats meowing and following her downstairs. I can still feel the eyes. Slept with a lava lamp too, so room was lit enough to see shadows, and couldn't see shit on the wall in front of me other than my own shadow. After maybe an hour of this I finally will myself to roll over. Do it so fast I piss off my cat who hisses and takes off. There's not shit in my room other than me. Decide to sleep downstairs on the couch the rest of the night after willing myself to move. Next few nights, rinse and repeat before finally deciding to just sleep on the couch.

Sell it. If you really don't want to rent it, and you really don't want to sell it because you don't want people living there haunted, and you REALLY don't want to live there, then the only option is to donate it to some charity or some shit, or bulldoze it, or just leave it abandoned so the neighborhood kids can sneak in to do drugs then get their shit scared by ghosts.

Finally I tell my mom about it after a month. She tells me to burn some sage and attempt to banish whatever it is I'm feeling before reminding me cats can sense negativity and malevolence so I'm probably fine. Next day, burn some sage and I think my exact words were "ok so if you have any ill intent, you need to fuck off. I WILL go to whatever lengths I need to to make you get the fuck out of here because this is my god damn fucking room, I've lived in it for 17 fucking years, and I'm not dealing with this shit. That said, if you're not evil or whatever, then fucking stop. Stop fucking watching me sleep that shit's creepy. Like, you can stay, just stop watching me while I sleep ok?" Moved out to life with my gf about two years later, but I'm pretty sure I felt it watching me play vidya from there forward. And I'm still pretty sure it was hanging around when I moved out, so it's probably still there now

>Story starts with a group of girls and the male protag hanging out
>MC's crush starts getting stalked, game follows MC trying to protect her
>They get together, have sex, all happy
>Turns out MC was the stalker all along
>Girl finds out
>He strangles her to death
>Oh fuck this is guro

Don't remember what it was.
Like I said, I noped right out of it when he cut off the girl's arm and never went back.
It was actually kind of interesting plot wise, especially since the MC kept hearing his girlfriend talk to and encourage him after he had strangled her, but I just can't stand guro.

The title image was what I posted though. A girl lying on a big white bed, a bunch of dolls of the characters scattered around with damage related to, i can only assume, how they're killed in the VN.
Stuffing everywhere.
>>
>>316889903
So I'm assuming the "scary" thing he say was just eyes. He had a phobia of looking people in the eyes and probably unintentionally did so when he came to. But I don't get the "God have mercy on your soul" line. He didn't do anything wrong outside of his dream/coma from what we can tell.

Wendigo is basically a cannibal witch/wizard

the native american tribes of which the myth originates believed that cannibalism would turn you into one.

Some interpretations have them as a stag headed creature, but they're generally described as atrophies humans with immense magical powers.

A 3-4/10. It has some creative stuff and it's hella funny to have one enemy hit another and then it just turns into an all out brawl (I remember breaking down laughing at some parts.), but it isn't scary, relies for cheap child tier jump scares, and the combat is iffy.

Okay, got curious and tried to find it on g.

I'm severely confused.
It's called Dasaku by Cyclet. Thing is, apparently I didn't even scratch the surface of the what the fuckery in it.
Like, I thought the story was just going to be about this guy going about killing all his old friends.
But, looking at the gallery and the tags it seems futanari's get dragged into it somehow, most likely from the MC turning himself into a woman or some shit in his insanity. and looooots of guro.
I'm kinda glad I dropped it.

I don't think I ever have claustrophobic dreams but every once in a while I have dreams that seem to be loosely based off of my grandparents' old house. My last one was just a couple nights ago and it had a House of Leaves vibe, although the halls are ordinary looking in and off themselves and well lit in most places, but still unsettling. In fact, in my dream they weren't even explored that far.

Yeah it was pretty bizarre, something about a school that ended up being only women cause all the men stayed home and they became so huge they turned into the room themselves and their asses/dicks were just hanging out windows and they were just pissing every where.

That's not what I was looking for though reading that^ was how I stumbled across this other hilarious robot one with a really good twist ending.
