I'd heard it was intended to confuse the Patriots and get them to jump offsides or something, but it didn't work. On top of that, the play never intended for the ball to be snapped, but he fucked up and snapped it anyway.
Basically they tried to confused the Patriots, but the Patriots didn't get confused and the Colts confused themselves instead, and then everybody made fun of them for the rest of the week.
