A re-release is when you essentially do the same as a port but you're offering substantial new content, it does not necessarily have to look better.

I'm a little annoyed that the game isn't on PS3or Wii U as well as being on 3DS. Because it is the one game in the series which would benefit from the HD treatment. An expanded overworld with more trees, better grass, more detailed desert, etc.

The only one I can understand being upset about making the game easier is the instant restore on level up. Very easy to abuse right before a boss fight and no need to conserve anything. However, I don't think that ever happened in any of my playthroughs of the game. Normally if I had a bad bit of luck, I would just walk out of the dungeon, heal up, come back and then just run from everything on the way to the boss.

Oh thank god. Nothing was more annoying then realizing I was 1 point away from another skill in another tree that would have been really good to have. The lack of interesting builds for your characters was simply depressing and it was either invest heavily into 2 trees to get everything and then maybe 3 skills in a third tree, or become a mediocre jack of all trades. Maybe now I can actually have Yangus using Clubs and Fisticuffs along with Humanity and having tons of fun with the game, instead of practically having to go with Axes because the defense down was too good against bosses.

Beyond this, Dragon Quest games have great stories and nostalgia factor. The more you play the games, the more you want.

DQ's one of the few JRPGs that actually focus on adventure.
The best thing about DQ is that it looks generic on the surface but there are a lot of details layered underneath that sets it apart from many other RPG series. It doesn't jump on the latest bandwagons in the industry and continues to do what it does good.
For me, on of the best things about DQ is the exploration aspect, and how the battles compliment it because of how straightforward they are. Unlike most JRPGs, this game doesn't just slap plot in your face every time you move on to a new area. There are details about the plot/world you can get by talking to NPCs or exploring. It's really the type of game you can play anytime without having to worry about progressing unless you want to.
While the series retains its core, each game adds changes to it or improves on it. Also each game after the first two has its own features that separates them from others in the series (different class systems for 3, 6,and 7 each, Monster teams in 8, multiplayer in 9, etc.).
It's fine if you found it boring. DQ's not for everyone, especially with how close it sticks to tradition and how barebones it seems on the surface.

I like it when it's on every piece of equipment. Sure, it makes for less customization since you'll be constantly changing for the stats, but it makes for great immersion, I like the way my characters end up with mis-matching armors since it really feels like I'm on an adventure.

It's an alright game but the only problem is that it's too easy except for a couple of defense mission that spam enemies all over you. Plus, the combat needs a little more diversity. For a fanservice game about Dragon Quest I feel it did a good job but they really need to work on the difficulty and diversity of the game more. I hope heros 2 improves on the flaws of one but who knows if it will come here because it seems sales weren't that good for the game.

I am the graphical downgrade is really being overplayed here for a bunch of people who haven't seen it in person. My friend has a nip new 3ds he bought exclusively for DQ and 7 and 8 look great. 8 especially considering it can even run on the original 3DS. The draw distance on 8 is great and I wasn't expecting that honestly, since the last time I remember seeing a more open 3D game on the console was that Lego game and the draw distance for that shit is like two feet ahead of you before everything starts to disappear. 7's remake is also very pretty, every aspect is detailed, even the walls in every house which is unnecessary but neat.

Of course, it's a JRPG, so a lot of that content is random encounters. The game is hard at times so some people end up grinding a bit, but never so much that it'd change the lenght of the game significantly.

Half is pushing it, Legendia is an extreme exemple where they didn't have enough budget. The majority of the game is already dubbed. The new content you would need to voice is minimal. There's only a few new cutscenes, and then new lines of dialogues for the new characters. If you just dub the new characters' lines, then only a few cutscene will be left with no voice, and it's not like the entire game was voiced to begin with.
