I'm still playing TTW. OP overloards and reavers are starting to piss me off at lv 45. Modded Tri-beam laser rifle with MC MF cells can one shot sneak attack crit reavers though. I just wish it didn't burn through MF cells so quickly, tempted to edit it in geck to only use 1 so I can have some fun with it.
Also the piles of fucking ash and goo that never vanish realkly fucking bother my autism, is there a mod to get rid of them after 48 hours in game time or something, there's nothing worse than seeing x piles of ash where you've been before.

So with all the insane hype on here for Fallout 4, I decided to play 3, because I liked Morrowind and Oblivion, and I've never played a Fallout game. My brother has the game so I checked it out. And i just don't get it. Things that either confuse me or annoy me about the game:
-The beginning has some intriguing elements but as a tutorial, it's bad. It doesn't properly show you the mechanics of anything. I feel like I had to learn it all over again when I got out of the vault.
-The shooting controls are just really bad. Makes the game nearly unplayable for me. Meanwhile, all the enemies seem to shoot with near perfect accuracy.
-The "limbs can be damaged" system feels unnecessary and tacked on. Makes things seem needlessly complex.
-It always feels like I never have enough ammo.
-The entire world is so grey that it's just downright boring looking.
Are these legitimate criticisms of the game, or am I just a shitty casual? I find the game almost broken, like it seems like its in the pre-alpha stage still. I dont understand why Fallout 4 was so hyped. Combining crappy shooting controls with ammo conservation is just dreadful to me

This is true, the only real use for it in Fallout 3 is crippling Deathclaw legs. You can heal your personal crippled limbs with stimpaks, anyway. They just tacked it on because hey, Fallout 1 and 2 had it.
FO3 is generally not a very good game and the combat is absolutely garbage in it. You can practically skip it just by abusing VATS, at least.

Not really. Shooting legs slows them down which can help. Shooting arms/weapons can potentially make them drop their weapon and turn the fight into a joke with them running head first into your bullets or beams.

I actually like this about New Vegas a lot.
I mean, you can still bypass it if you really want to. But the way the opening is directed (half open-half linear) is very smart and does a great point introducing the major points in the game.
Really hyped me up to see Vegas from hearing the talk of it.

The ammo part is not true. I'm playing with a mod that makes it less plentiful, and adds weight, and I have a shit ton. It's all about being smart with it.

I just use mods on PC. Fixes it up, gets rid of the ugly green tint, etc...
I liked the limb system. They carried it over from the previous. I think it would have been nice though to make it more unforgiving, but more rare. (Can't just fix with stimpak etc...) But it's cool to use on enemies. It's a nice way to exploit weaknesses, e.g by shooting deathclaw's legs.
For shooting, I agree. I do 10X better with a mod that adds NV's ironsights to all weapons.

Also, New Vegas shares most of those flaws but makes up for it with better writing, better characters, a few simple but necessary tweaks to the gameplay and a generally nicer world. They pretty much did the best they could do with what they had to work with.

FNV character got shot in the head. That is a thing that happened, which can be applied to the values of my current character. A retard tribal, a cunning thief, a BoS fanboy who jerks off to energy weapons, all of these characters are capable of being shot in the head, because that is a thing that can happen.
Getting married is not a thing that happens beyond people's control. It's a choice, an active action based on values and decisions made prior to my taking control. The F4 character chose to get married, chose to move to suburbia, chose to have a kid. These aren't things that just happen to people beyond their control. They're characterizations based on values, and they limit what kind of character you can create.

NV has much better writing and more branching options when it comes to quests and different factions / endings, but retains most of the core gameplay mechanics of FO3, albeit with slight improvements and more diversity when it comes to builds and gear. You might like it more, but if you're already sick of playing FO3 you probably won't enjoy NV very much.
