The problem is that the "boycott" isn't going to be effective, and it won't send the correct message.
Remember that North Americans had to "fight" to get Xenoblade in the first place, so if this game doesn't sell (regardless of the reason) it will simply come down to "NA doesn't want this kind of game after all". If anything, it justifies their changes because if that is enough to boycott the game then you really didn't ever want to play it anyway.
I don't give a fuck about censorship in games. Welcome to 20+ years ago, everyone. Games are censored all over the world. North American games are altered for their Japanese releases, too - are you getting buttfrustrated over that as well? How about the Chinese removing skeletons from everything in media? When you make a character and do that you could basically recreate Lynlee completely as your own character - and that way the bikini would show up on Lyn without it really being a Lyn, but just your own character looking just like her.

The most likely reason they did it is because the player character can wear any outfit, even the skimpy ones.
Someone could make a really short, flat character and put them in those outfits. Basically, they couldn't censor your own player character if their boobs were too small and them self too short, so they just forwent the bust slider completely.
It's not a good reason, but it's probably the one that caused the removale.
Why they couldn't just say potato and the player character were 18, I don't know. Maybe it's less work to just remove a slider and censor outfits for potato than go through and change all the mentions of age.
