Unity is really easy to learn for a game engine, you can learn to make a workable game from scratch in a few days with Gamemaker, and you could mash your hand across the keyboard and make something half-decent with RPGmaker. You aren't exactly bereft of options here.

an animation would still be easier to make than a videogame.

making a game would mean basically making the same but also coding and designing a level + bugs + testing + publishing + a whole new deal.
