yea just check our the upgrades for a piece or armor, theres 2 catagories, you can upgrade the strength and weight, and add a perk to the piece like carry capacity or limb strength its worth it unless you have a seriously op 1 piece

The merchants are for generating caps, they show up in your workbench over time. Only the level 3 armour and weapon stores stock decent stuff sometimes, but it's extremely rare.

If you mean supplies to build shit, then yeah. Just pick up random shit everywhere. Drop them off whenever you are at a workbench in a friendly area, your stored stuff at benches transfers to any friendly bench. So basically just benches in your settlements.

The secret is keeping guns of every types in your inventory, always try to spot the enemies first, sneak as much as you can. molotov, frags, mines all have its place. make a lot of jet and jet hybrid (preferably psycho jet and buffjet) to enter f.e.a.r mode with a giant shotguns (always upgrade them to maximum damage) when you are surrounded. send your companion in-out to occupy enemies while you hang at the back or charging in. keep food or you would run out of stim real quick.
