It actually has good combat, something most other Zelda games cannot say. It's better than your typical "mash B / spam spin attack to win" Zelda. They also cut the bullshit and didn't include a big open area with no content in it, such as a huge field or ocean like in other Zelda games. It's just pure quality combat from start to finish. Which Megami Tensei/SMT games are you planning on playing? Because there are a shitload and honestly, a lot of them aren't worth bothering with.
The early ones are just full of shitty auto-resolve encounters that don't require any strategy and have almost no story to make up for it, they're only notable for being Pokemon before Pokemon, sort of.
By contrast, some of the later ones like Nocturne have considerably more well-designed turn-based combat/party management than the majority of JRPGs and good atmosphere to back it up.
There are also a lot of spin-offs with slight variations on this formula, like DDS which is more "cinematic", the Raidou games which are real-time, etc.

Deus Ex no longer stands up but you may want to familiarize yourself with the story, as it is a good story. The gameplay is weak though and the controls feel clunky and awkward.
Okami isn't a very good game, it's just weird. I wouldn't recommend it.

Both the first and second chapters of Trails in the Sky are lovely rpg's that will last you a long while. Fully recommend those if you're looking for a rather niche series. It's not too niche, but it's still not entry level.
Best girl is the main character, too, so that's a big plus.

Fire Emblem, start with 7 (Just known as Fire Emblem in the west). If you like it, play the others.
Bastion is a great game, decent gameplay, great music, interesting world, and a fun narration.
Planescape: Torment is somewhat dated, but has a fantastic story.
Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are great, atmospheric games.
If you have any interest in the more J JRPGs, the Tales of series is great, start with either Symphonia or Vesperia if you do. Above average combat for a JRPG series, a fun, light-hearted adventures with enjoyable characters. If you don't like anime, ignore.

If you're going to play a fighting game for the first time, it should be the current Street Fighter or Smash - before people give me shit for saying that, my reasoning is that those two games have massive online multiplayer communities to play against. VF5FS may be good but you'll be playing it by yourself as you'll be bored as fuck pretty quickly.
Also for Uncharted Waters, go for the sequel Uncharted Waters: New Horizons. Best pirate-themed game ever in my opinion.
