I do honestly wonder how long they taken to make it. I have a bit of doubt that it was straight after Skyrim as they were still making DLC until mid 2012.
At most this seems like a 3.5 year job, and it shows in odd ways, like effort in some places and none in others.

The appeal went for me with the voiced protagonist and dumbed down dialogue system. I'd have given it more of a chance if it was like The Witcher where Geralt was voiced but you had fully descriptive dialogue boxes.
On the Geralt note, giving a character a backstory makes it harder to roleplay. How do I go from a suburban dude to eating human flesh and shooting old ladies in the face?
I got what I expected from it.

New Vegas is one of my favourite games and 4 is getting a 7 (which is "good"). The dialogue isn't dark homour anymore, it's actually pretty wacky/goofy in places for some reason. Minimal amount of skill checks. Quests are pretty linear unlike NV which has multiple paths. Of course new dialogue system is limited.
BUT all the customisation is great. Companion interactions are more personal with some meaningful moments. Shooting mechanics more refined, including VATS too.
Basically it's a more simplified open world shooter with customisable elements and limited RP potential, but still has that addictive exploring and looting nature.

I don't give a hoot about customization. I'd much prefer to have diverse storylines and factions. Honestly if they gave me a handful of weapon types and variances but invested all of that time adding boring shit into storylines and replayability, it would've been an instant buy for me.
But seeing how everyone says it is, and off your description, it doesn't seem to be as fun. Would you say its as open world and has as many dialogue types/options as NV or is it more limited? Because that 4 option dialogue wheel is a major turnoff.

Doesn't seem like it. There's a lot more shit in this game than I initially expected. Every time I think I'm done finding shit, I find a heap more, plus a faction. So far I've found Brotherhood of Steel, Minute Men, Railroad.

I actually like the weapon designs in this game. Shame that when the mods come rolling in, the style consistency will be ruined by generic M16s, Colts, and other generic modern realistic weapons.

This coming from the guy who just wasted 40 (F O R T Y) hours of his life on this shit game and didn't even finish it.
It's a lot harder than previous ones and i think that's what's pissing some people off. Making them say it sucks. The AI does get hung up on things sometimes but overall the behavior is improved.
I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Only thing that really pissed me off is during the Mirelurk Queen fight those little crawling things have tiny hitboxes and the endless stream of them drove me nuts.

Yeah, because the game gives you plenty of leeway to create a character as opposed to just a face. It doesn't automatically assign you a loving wife and child or a career in the military. You can be a bumbling bruiser going from job to job or a traveling doctor/snake oil salesman trying to make ends meet with a little extra courier work. The game gives you plenty of excuses to hunt Benny down, from wanting answers or revenge to trying to avoid the thugs House will send after you if you fail to deliver the chip.

Yes thank you, in that sense I don't think its any better than fallout 3's intro (except maybe that it's shorter). I feel like in these games you can freely forget about the main quest and do your business as whoever you like.
Most of my time in Fo3 and NV was sneaking around gathering supplies for the settlements mod I played with, building up bases and roleplaying as whatever so this new game is more like how I like to play in the first place. That said I don't think the shaun/military backstory has bled over into many of the sidequests so I'm not too bothered by it, but I'm glad to see someone write out their complaint instead of just memeposting.

Like, the main character's reaction to being frozen for 200 years after watching nukes destroy Boston, his wife get shot, his son get taken, and then seeing all the destruction and mutated shit around him is so far from realistic or dramatically accurate as to be completely laughable. And nobody else you meet has much of a reaction to your story either. Honestly, what the fuck? The premise lends itself easily to great drama and writing and this game's delivery of it is like wet cardboard, your character instantly just accepts everything without any sort of emotion.

I wish the literal movement of the player character didn't feel so unabashedly in line with every other recent Bethesda game. A more responsive jump or perhaps some added clamber mechanics would be great; it's evident Bethesda is eschewing the RPG mechanics for the FPS ones, and many of the surviving mainstream FPS titles today (Battlefield, CoD, Halo) are emphasizing enhanced movement and player control in things as simple as clambers to ostentatious wall-runs to address that.
I'm not saying Fallout necessarily needs that, but it's insulting to see Bethesda advertise a supposed strengthening of FPS elements and dramatically different Fallout experience worthy of the title sequel whereas they not only fail to make the smallest attempts to put a new coat of paint on the engine, but refuse to take cues to those who are succeeding in the FPS genre.
It's a fun enough game as is often the case when enough money's put into it, but I sincerely hope the resounding "ehh, it's alright" seen in user reviews and critical reception (not breaking the 90 echelon of metacritic) will kick some damn sense into them.

I have multiple tons of Junk stored in Sanctuary and even scrolling through the list takes a solid minute. Just slamming mousewheel down as fast as I can. It's literally impossible to pick a specific material out of it. You can't even sort your junk by materials. And new sites never have gears, concrete etc.

Im having fun with the game actually.
The basebuilding is basic as fuck buts its fun as hell.
Companions are awesome, guns are fun, alot of cool shit around, minibosses make fight alot more intresting.
And mostly, the game is somewhat challenging at higher difficulties, what with heallth regen taking time, hard enemies from the start and some other stuff.
Only issue is that they couldn't be fucking bothered to find more music and reused F3 stuff.
Also Fusion Cores are way to fucking common, i just found 5 in a bunker all toghter.
Still, fun game, loving it.

Played about 6 hours, been trying to sum up my feelings of the game.
It's... Ok? I give it a 6.5.
The story isn't particularly moving, especially it's easy to figure out what is going to happen. There's no room for having your own character, instead you are, Grumpy Parent, Nice Parent and Sarcastic Parent.
Gun customisation is ok, I find the menu to be clunky as fuck though. I find VATS to be useless now, using a keyboard and mouse and aiming just does not feel right, instead I have a slowmo feral ghoul hitting me because the stupid gun wont aim at it's head.
Settlements are a neat distraction, a bit too shallow for a building sim though.
The whole game just gives me a meh feeling, I feel like I'm playing borderlands with these LEGENDARY ROAMING FERAL GHOUL's that mutate when they're low on health, that's not Fallout.
