The mechs featured in it, while often not as flexible (ironic, huh?) as most R series fighters, hit pretty fucking hard. They're practically among your best units, though,once you play as the fucking Bydo.

If anyone likes roguelikes, try GearHead: Arena.
It's more along the lines of a typical rpg rather than roguelike. You basically have a world you can wander around in, do quests, gather equipment, increase skills, build/buy/salvage mechs, and fight the shit out of other people on foot or in a mecha. Or, if you're really powerful fight mechs on foot (wouldn't recommend this). It has all the tropes you typically find in mecha anime, with a bunch of random generation, so you can expect clones of your character, rivals, love interests, ancient biomechanical weapons, and other shit.
It has graphics, which are kinda meh, so it's not just symbols and letters. But I sort of preferred the ASCII over the graphics. If you want a tip, since like all the info about the game went down with its website, the best early-mid game mech is the Zerosaiko. It's dodgy, durable, and can kill things dead in melee. Late game is up to you, but I recommend a highly custom Savin. Also, I believe there are two completely unique mechs (although one of them isn't really a mech) that you can get, one you gotta find after a difficult as balls quest and one you get from fighting in the arena.

There's a sequel, called GearHead 2, but I was never really able to get into it. It takes place in space, and is more like Gundam. I'm not sure if it was even completely finished. The author said he was making a lot of changes to it, but that was years ago.

They had cool ideas and concepts that they absolutley blundered like the ultimate weapons, and transforming arm parts. And the whole wall jumping instead of actual flying, copy pasted parts, horrible frame rate, retarded damage system, etc just all added up to me really hating the games.
Would fucking love them to make a new game, but have it be actually fucking good.

Pretty much. Verdict Day is kind of terribkle because its and expansion onto ACV, but its sort of alright. VDs story would have been great is if was in a better playing AC game.
