It's literally the first quest. You use the power armor and minigun before you even get to equip no clothing.

Looks like my fallout money is going back into my warhammer purchases.
>>
>>316208208
The real question is: do they let you keep it afterwards?

Would be kinda retarded if you were given the best armor in the game so early.
>>
>>316208208
I'm assuming you immediately lose the shit right after the "cinematic" prologue bullshit?
Because it seems like otherwise they'd be destroying the progression of the game.
>>
>>316208478
>>316208794
>>316208845
I remember in FO1/2 you don't get power armor till late mid-game at earliest. And when you do, it really gives you the feeling of being a badass. Betheshit will never understand this.
>>
>>316209529
It's yours forever.
>>
>>316209529

It requires fusion cores to actually do anything useful, so you can keep the armor after the mission, but after 10 minutes of sprinting the battery's drained and you're stuck lugging it around uselessly.

>>316209626

I agree, and they even forced you to do training to use it effectively.
>>
Where the fuck is there a shop? Diamond City, obviously, but I doubt I can safely reach it at level 4
>>
>>316209537
nope, you get Power Armor, the first mininuke, and start base building within a few hours of gameplay
It's the same shit pacing as having you mess with the nuke in Megaton IMMEDIATELY in FO3
>>
>>316209529
Yes. And it trivializes the game. Finding power sources for it is not hard and the energy only really drains while using VATS or sprinting. If you don't do those 2 things there is no reason you can't just use the power armour for the rest of the game.
>>
>>316209728
>>316209659
>stuck lugging it around uselessly.
Can you not get rid of it?
>>
>>316209529
Yes, but it's just the exoskeleton, the frame for building more armor on

And you don't have any fuel for it
>>
>>316209825
you can
>>
>>316209825
you can leave it whenever you want, and it's your choice to use it or not. It's a vehicle not an inventory piece
>>
Why does everything seem so high tech? The whole idea of the Fallout is that the world's what the people in 50s predicted it would be like.
>>
>>316209781
I've been playing for around 16 hours and still haven't found any. I've barely found any NPC's at all, let alone stores or towns. The game seems empty as fuck. It's like they turned it into a dungeon crawler.

It's so bad I've resorted to starting to level up perks so I can just build a trader and stuff in town. Keep in mind I'm only level 19 and haven't made it to diamond city yet (but around the entire top left quadrant of my map is finished).
>>
>>316209825

You can, it's just that you can't just store it in your inventory, you have to manually climb out of it and leave it behind.
>>
>>316209529
>>316209537
It's powered by fusion cores, meaning that if you just run around in it doing bullshit, you will probably run out of fuel when you actually need it. Also, it breaks and you have to repair it.

I honestly dumped it in my base right after finishing the first mission, because it's not really worth using for exploring.
>>
Fallout 4 power armor is essentially a walking tank.
Once it runs out of fuel it's useless so after the *EPIC* fight just walk to a nearest settlement and place it on a rack.
>>
>>316208478
It's not quite 10 minutes, more like 20-30 I'd say. Pretty bad, still.
>>
>>316209465
thats a cool ass board for a game. im gonna have to tell the local guy to do that for his next big vamp count campaign
>>
>>316210147
You take it with you when you have to storm a base.
>>
>>316210138
nigger what the fuck

Fallout 3 was much better put together than this, and I don't even like it outside of it's terrific atmosphere and world design. Those are literally the two things I like about that game. And it's still better than this. What the fuck. They were smart enough to put Megaton like 200m away from the Vault. I don't understand. I just... I don't. This feels like they let the amateurs build the game
>>
>>316210180
I love how the game expects you to be in the power armor in some big fights even though you happen across those fights randomly.

You have to know beforehand that bringing the armor would help leaving you with two options.

1. Travel back and pick up the armor then travel back again.

2. Just do the event without it (What I usually do)
>>
>>316210138
there is a shop very close to the first town

>>316208208
yeah yeah and you run out of minigun ammo in that one fight, and most of your power and it gets kinda broken

point is you will leave it to gather dust in your settlement and keep traveling on foot, so dont exaggerate

>>
>>316210426
Just put some blood on it honey and you'll be good to go.
>>
The reason they just gave it to you so early is because it's a new mechanic they made for it
Is it enjoyable? Not really
It's like a timed power up that can break and become worthless and slow you down.
As for the minigun, if you're smart enough to save the bullets before chugging them all into the deathclaw, then kudos, a minigun for a while for you to play with.
The only truely fucked up thing is that Raiders can have power armor and there's one with a fucking fat man and if you have it on the highest difficulty, he's like a god damn sniper with it. Oh yeah, it's one of the first missions you're given that he has all this shit.

>>316210454
>and a cute daughter on a farm

What? In my game there was only 2 and they were talking about their daughter was killed and had to get them her pendant. Also I couldn't sell to her because she had no caps. It was like interacting with a storage cabinet. Maybe it was because ti was after I helped them and unlocked the workshop?

I'm sick of all these retards saying it's a timed buff. Yes, technically it is, but it only wears down at a noticeable pace if you use vats or sprint. If you don't do those two things you can wear the power armor for a real long fucking time. On top of that power cores are not hard to find, at all. Most buildings/dungeons will have a generator with a core in it. It's extremely easy to never leave the power armor as soon as you get it.

I'm playing on survival difficulty and have about 16 hours played and still haven't left my power armor. Whoever works in Bethesda's balancing team needs to stop being retarded.
>>
I find it weird that in the last Bethesda Fallout game you had to go through this whole story process in order to properly train yourself to use Power Armor but in FO4 you literally get it in the first mission and kill a damn deathclaw with it.

It's cool that its not unlimited use, and because it takes a while to upgrade it all the way, but honestly I would have preferred a buildup.

I'm stuck on the mission where you have to find the missing squad of Brotherhood of Steel. Died a few times to Legendary mobs with around 25 .308 rounds, 5 shotgun shells and a million rounds of .38.

My bullets bounce off their armor but seeing as I have over 300 5mm rounds left i'm just going to grab my powerarmor and minigun and BRRRT down the supermutants.

It's good for when you find yourself stuck in progression and need that aggressive "fuck everything in this specific area", but it's not good for dicking around with.

Not if you actually follow the quests.

Not to mention that when you first have the chance to fight them you aren't going to do shit to them unless you've mined the wiki on where all the most powerful weapons are and equipped yourself properly, which takes more than an hour outside of console commands.

Yes it's legendary on survival difficulty. The minigun doesn't have enough bullets to kill it. You need to use cars to do more damage or really get in it's face so you never miss (which is a death wish).

it's worth it though. All the legendary enemies I've fought so far have been tough as shit (the worst being a mirelurk).

Speaking of bullets sponges, does FO4 have an editor released already?

The first I did when I bought FO3 and NV was edit the game variables so that all weapons in the game would do around 4x damage, so that I wouldn't have to deal with bullet sponges.

It's not like both of these games were balanced to begin with, kek.

Aside from the legendary Deathclaw taking a shit-ton of minigun bullets to kill (bear in mind this is at like level 4 and with no perks) the majority of enemies you fight on survival at least feel like what metro did for their hard mode. I was taking a ton of damage but so were they.

>>
>>316213793

That's the point though, Deathclaws are supposed to be nigh-unstoppable murder machines that no sane person would even think about going near, much less fighting.

Hell, in NV mint-conditioned power armor will stop maybe 2 Deathclaw swipes, maybe 1 more if you have high END, but that's the entire point. They even had the courtesy to put them in a separate clearly-marked area with NPCs outside of it strongly warning you to not fuck with the Deathclaws.

>>
>>316214159
>Deathclaws are supposed to be nigh-unstoppable murder machines that no sane person would even think about going near, much less fighting.

You clear a whole nest of them in Fallout 1 without much trouble. It's not even in the end game.
They're nowhere near unstoppable, they're just the most dangerous beasts out there.

Super mutants are supposed to be a much bigger threat

you fight a deathclaw fairly early in 1, and you can run across them in packs by level 6 or something in 2

Obviously you're not going to have an easy time on your hands, but you can still meet them. There were "lesser" versions in Fallout 2 that died pretty easily as well, but the real ones with 350HP would fuck your shit up if one ever saw you.

wrong, deathclaws are supposed to be mutated animals enhanced by FEV

They're still animals that die fairly easily when you get the chance to shoot them in the eyes, they're by no means meant to be unstoppable.

Strong and scary as fuck, yes, but not endgame enemies. Any random wanker with an energy weapon could wipe the floor with deathclaws in the first two games unless they swarmed you.

the beginning of FO4 is seriously some of the most contrived story telling imaginable

literally seconds before the announcement of the bombs dropping some guy comes right to your house to tell you about the vaults

then for some reason the vault is conveniently located not even like a quarter mile outside your house in the woods not even connected to any streets

then the actual bomb drops again within seconds of you going into the vault

Played about 6 hours I think and have a total of 5 fusion cells. They're not rare to find. You can pretty much go into huge buildings and probably find one in the basement. After destroying one of those huge robots(the ones that roll on a triangular base and have a cage sorta face), I scavenged 2 cells from it. Kinda embarrassing to forget the name. Anyway, the cells last quite a while. Way longer than 10 minutes, that's for sure. I noticed the cell drains when you're running, can't tell if it drains when walking or stationary. Spent 30 minutes in the first cell you get in the beginning.

Also since you can fast travel with it on and not lose any energy, you can pretty much discover a place and go back for your armor to clear it.

Somethings people are missing. Vault Tec knew the bombs were going to drop. They planned for these vaults and experiments for a long time before acting on them. In fact, the "salesman" seemed very anxious to get you signed up THAT day, THAT moment, and was nervous, as if he knew for a fact that bombs were going to drop any moment. Vault Tec higher ups most likely planned locations very precisely.

Try telling the salesman "No" for signing up, and you'll see him get very nervous about not getting you signed up.

The mini-gun is not the strongest gun in the game. In fact, they give you a weapon that's considered to be so powerful in previous games, to show that it's just tip of the ice berg in terms of strength. Legendaries and modded weapons far out shine the Mini-gun in FO4.

It's more like a "Remember how powerful this shit was in previous games? Well you haven't seen anything yet."

The Power Armor, in the mean time, is a long term project of upgrading and leveling up in order to use efficiently.

>Fallout 4 power armor is essentially a walking tank.

Blah blah. You know what? Power Armor in Fallout 1 & 2 was essentially a walking tank as well. This shit isn't new. They were made pre-nuclear holocaust to replace tanks with heavily armed infantry. They also had self-sustaining mini fusion reactors because a combat fighter who can stay in action for sub 20 minutes before running out of fuel would be absolutely useless.

Tank as in useless once it runs out of fuel. Power armour isn't supposed to run out of fuel unless the fusion core is damaged somehow.

Despite the ease of getting it, it kind of makes sense you can use it. Your guy was in the army and shit wasn't he? Also I much prefer how the power armour works now vs how it worked in NV/FO3.

It feels much more useful, the UI is pretty cool and it has nice sound effects and visual effects (crushing stuff, bullets pinging off you etc.)

If it wasn't for the fact that you get it 1 hour into the game I'd say it's the best power armour delivery in the franchise.

The game just gives you all the main mechanics during the early missions, then lets you do what you want, so it's important that you get the power armor.

Yeah, it also doesn't make any sense from a physics standpoint. I mean, I know that lot of the fallout universe is an intentional misrepresentation of nuclear physics but this one doesn't even fit the theme they have going.

The fusion cores you put in the Power armor to power the suits for such a small amount of time would either have to contain so little fusion material that the actual size of the core doesn't make any sense at all or it releases so much energy in such a short amount of time that you and the suit would literally melt. I guess the other option is that in fallout 4 universe fusion produces jack shit energy... but that also doesn't fit in with the theme because why then would their societie be based on it.

That's only half-true. On Survival enemies do lots of damage, but they don't have bugger health pools. If they did I wouldn't be pistol-whipping raiders with two strength in 4 shots.

I feel it's more like Metro's hard difficulty.

That was a legendary dnd-game Deathclaw that you were forced to fight with a shitty-ass minigun, with no perks to back up that particular type of weapon.

The only problem I have is how early it shows up. If it showed up at endgame with the exact same sequence where you just tear a minigun off a helicopter it would still be cheesy but at least it would be kind of a fuck yeah thing, especially if it wasn't the only option for that section. Right now it's just a turret section, and then you have this superweapon powered by exploration, but lasts entirely to long anyway.
>>
>>316222405
Was it really that obvious? I try not be a cynical jackass at all times, so I came away feeling neutral.

Does this game even compare to 3 or NV? Does it at least give some similar feeling in regards to the characters and landscape? I guess I will find out in like 20 minutes when it is done downloading. There's no way to fuck up wandering the wastes with old timey music is there?

I have a hard time believing you're not going to buy the game purely because they give you power armor like an hour into the game that immediately becomes useless shortly afterward. Power armor that's given as a prelude to what's to come in the game, and what you'll need to survive.

>I mean before we had to get it mid/late in the game...and had to join a faction...and get training...and it weighed a lot...but we preferred that system...
Are people really expecting power armor to be this huge secret thing now? It's been an icon of the series for ages. The game lets you get a taste of what's to come and then tells you to use that power wisely because of how limited fusion cores are.

Literally just finding the tiniest fucking thing to justify being poorfags and pirating the game.
>>
>>316221370
No, it's going to be either the same kind of action shit as 4, or just going back to the 3/NV formula.
I'm not saying the old FO games are bad, but Fallouts as isometric RPGs are long dead.

Your good pay off is now is leveling up to use it more often without its limits and upgrading and customizing it to your liking throughout the game.

I was also surprised to see high level bandits using Power Armor so early in the game. I mean, it makes fucking sense. Why wouldn't some bandits get lucky enough to score some if their entire life has been plundering? If a vault dweller can get their hands on some with their small amount of time in the wasteland, it makes sense some raiders would too.

>put game on hard because f3 and nv are easymode

Am I doing something wrong? I'm 15 hours into the game and really struggling bad against any enemy that turns into a legendary.

>the awful framerate and shit gunplay make it ahrd to shoot them

The game is an apology for Fallout 3. People saw the armor on the cover and wanted to know where it was in the game. They couldn't find anything better than handguns and destroyed rifles, and the only monsters to fight were ugly dogs and roaches.

People complained, and they fixed it.

>It does absolutely nothing to change how combat works
actually jump from combat to power armor makes massive difference how combat works, simply because it's so good armor, barely anything short of gauss rifles and critical hits can harm you.

In old Fallouts you had little HP and armor was your mean of survival. In 3D Fallouts, it's helpful, but not even necessary to use.

Its a universe where the character plays a fish out of water. How do you give them a compelling reason to do shit without a mcguffin?

What's more relatable:
>A human being I know
>A chip/box/machine-thingey

F1 and F2 both had the 'save your dying/potentially dying community', so 2 games of 'save the relative' ain't bad.

There's like four molotove cocktails in the musium alone. Fallout 4 literally throws grenades at you. I had six molotoves and three standard grenades at that point.
>>
>>316224839
So what do you think is better, playing "dress up dog" or being able to sneak up?
>>
I've not played more than 10 mins, I've got to some minuteman guys, I've got a minuteman outfit and some leather pants and a leather sleeve and a gas mask, looks cool for starter gear

>>316224889
Except with 1 and 2, your quest to find the mcguffin led into much deeper conspiracies that you got involved with, no one thought the actual finding of the chip or GECK was compelling, it was everything after that
With 3, you had
>Find dad

>Activate Purifier
and with 4
>Find son
>Nuke commonwealth or kill son

An enemy throws a molotov and you have a 2 second window to get the fuck out of the vicinity completely or else you get doused in fire and half your lifebar is gone

Maybe not, but having more than double your carrying capacity is.
>>
>>316225000

you can explore if you want
but the whole powerarmor mission is very short and after that you can start building your own settlement if you'd want, its worth doing it

you can leave power armor behind, its not like you will find many fusion cores anyway, they last only 10min per item
>>
>>316224730
The only change is that it makes the combat trivial just about everywhere except the endgame dungeon where it is absolutely necessary.

I really don't understand why people are so defensive of the older games' mechanics.

They were weak even when the games were current. You have to have gone full retard contrarian to think that power armor was handled better in the previous Fallout games.

Something you need to accept, if you truly believe in personal liberty is that when given the choice in life some will chose violence and other wrongs but that is not a reason to give up choice, you have to be willing to pay a price for liberty, I'm personally willing to risk an occasional incident for increased personal freedom.
I'm not willing to give up a guaranteed liberty for a sense of security but it seems with the patriot act and NSA, people are OK with choosing security over liberty.
It's a damn shame.

Gunplay as a result is much better. You're still locked out of Expert and Master level shit until you get the right perks and level anyways, so as long as there is progression, I don't see the problem.

Now, I find it more fun to use several different weapons rather than being limited to my build and skills. I honestly think the new Perk system is a better way of progressing your character.

Look I know you're trying this hard because you feel the need to defend the older games.

But they are few and far between. And they're really only a threat in solo runs.

Where do I see weapon degradation and how do I repair them?

>>
>>316226324

Nope. Honest opinion. Look at it this way, lock picking and hacking was determined by how many points you had in it, which you got by leveling. Now, it's locked behind a perk which requires a certain level and level in the associated stat. I honestly don't see the huge difference. Level up to unlock more access to more things. However, instead of being locked to a skill set, it's about your Perk loadout.

The biggest difference is your weapon damage and accuracy, which plays more like a regular first person shooter now. Instead of your stats dictating how good you are, it's mostly based on how good you actually are and the weapon itself.

You still get meaningful progression with the perks, however the game allows for more freedom in how you play, and it's easier to change your focus compared to previous Fallout games.
