Let's have a thread about those obscure FPS from the 2000s decade.
Any of you have any gems you wanna bring up?

Here's my example.
It's pretty much an RPG with FPS elements - It also has a cool faction system.
>>
Looks like a shittier STALKER.
>>
>>315789105
>I form opinions from one single screenshot

at least it's playable without mods

This super hyped game that no one actually remembers anymore.
>>
operation flashpoint cold war crisis is objectively the best 2000 era FPS ever produced.
>>
Still my favourite multiplayer game till today.

Shame its practically dead.
>>
>>315789357
Black was good, but the enemies were bullet sponges. Also, unskippable cutscenes really killed the replay value
>>
>>315789357
It was okay.
>>

Does Project Reality count?
>>
Serious Sam would count as that type of FPS, but one that became successful enough to continue with higher-budget remakes and sequels.
>>
>>315790451
Well it's been going for what now, 10 years?
>>
>>315789387
>12 o'clock, muh nigga, 100
>>
>>315789906
My fuckin nigga. Holy shit what I'd give for a sequel. Was hoping Delta Force: Angel Falls or whatever would have released but it seems Novalogic is all but practically gone.
>>
>>315789906
Came out like a month before BF2.

Dem 200 player servers though. Probably better than BF2.
>>
>>315789906
Weren't Easter European devs always churning out these type of FPS all the time? The kind where you're a commando dropped in a big open-ended level and you complete objectives in multiple ways?
>>
>>315790798

It had this kind of play mode, yes, but the flagship gamemode was like battlefield(capture point) with a bunch of vehicles(you could put cars in transportation helicotpers and put tanks on transportation ships) and 200+ players on one map.
>>
Prey was pretty good. Too bad its getting butchered now by bethesda

Söldner: Secret Wars. It's a little like Arma with all its combined arms and shit ton of weapons. I bought its Marine Corp expansion at a store like 10 years ago, but it doesn't have its original name on the cover anywhere so I was pretty confused when I first booted the game up.
>>

This is an example of a small starting FPS before its ascension.
>>
>>315789105
It's actually better than STALKER
>>
Project I.G.I and its sequel count, right?

This shit is/was so good
>>
>>315788884
It was pretty damn fun and ahead of its time back in 2005, even though I played it at release with an incredible amount of bugs. It's basically a good version of Far Cry 2
>>
>>315790798
Yeah, they didn't constrict themselves with cinematic mentality and pasionately tried to push games forward
>>

Soldier Of Fortune 2.jpg

game was great, ran shit on my toaster back then though
>>
>>315795656
do people still play that?
and does anyone remember this shit? third person with RTS elements, not perfect, probably not even good, but pretty unique, I'd have loved a bigger sequel.
>>
>>315797003
Not likely, considering it uses GFWL

White Gold the sequel to Boiling Point.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1HsiLYowlE

The English release for the game is kinda busted.
>>
>>315798386
>That cover
It has budget game written all over it.
>>
>>315795656
I love it too, it was a pretty good Counter-Strike clone. I hate that the developers shit on it.
>>
>>315798780
That game looks like it has more variety and gameplay mechanics than Far Cry 3 or 4.
How does some no-name Ukrainian devs end up making games that are superior to Triple-A games in all things but polish?

I was really disappointed by that one, SoF 1 was really good and 2 was mediocre

>>315798386
City interactive has got to be the laziest publisher in the world. They do nothing but pump out shit low budget game after shit low budget game hoping to catch out dumb fucks who want a cheap alternative to whatever game in particular the title is directly competing with.

Their biggest games were Sniper: Ghost Warrior 1 and 2. Both are shit, 2 is slightly more on par with shitty AAA shooters but not by much. It astounds me how they are still in business.
>>
>>315803263
They've been doing it for years too. Their sniper series launched not long after the original sniper elite, they even have very similar boxarts to catch out dumb kids.

City Interactive is pure evil.

>>
>>315803263
yeah those polacks sure are trash masters with their myriad of shooters about terrorists and marines.
>>
>>315803263
Funny you bring up Sniper Ghost Warrior - Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 is being developed and you can see that it's their biggest game in terms of ambition and budget.
Although, when you watch the gameplay video of it, you can see it that it's a Far Cry clone.

>>
Had a lot of fun with the multiplayer, back in the day.
>>
>>315804063
>Sniper 1 sold a few million copies FYI
For no good fucking reason, it's like the game came out, had box art that doesn't look like COMPLETE ASS, so people got tricked into thinking it was worth their time and money.

Be honest with yourself, the game wasn't very good at all really was it?
>>

Different game entirely. That confusion is actually how I ended up grabbing the game as a dumb teen. Thought it had something to do with Area 51 or was perhaps the same game. This game. You had an inventory like in Deus Ex, and could change your gear to anything you scavenged. Multiple armor types and you'd pick your camo before the mission. Your rifle could also change fire modes depending on what modules you had, everything from assault to sniper, shotgun, laser and rocket launcher.

A Serious Sam ripoff by people who did not understand what made Sam great. dropped it around 4 levels in.

Jurassic: The Hunted (previously known as Jurassic Hunter and Jurassic: The Hunter) is a first-person shooter video game developed by Cauldron HQ and published by Activision. The game was announced on October 16, 2009.[1] The game was released on November 3, 2009 for the Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3 consoles. Jurassic: The Hunted received mixed reviews from critics.

Great Patriotic War, The: Battle for Fatherland

"On the battlefield, we are not fighting alone. In addition to fighting enemy soldiers, there are also allies. You can not give them orders, but the bots are controlled by artificial intelligence and will seek to capture flags, but they do not seek to defend them, placing this honorable duty on the shoulders of the player.

There is no ammo or health kits to be picked up. Only after a second death, you are reborn to full health, and fueled with ammunition."

I really enjoyed Soldner: Secret Wars despite all of it's flaws. You could completely customize your soldier from head to toe from a ton of options, and you could even customize the game modes. Instead of playing CTF you could play capture the person, or capture the building. It was like Battlefield except with bigger maps (if I recall correctly). All kinds of land vehicles, planes and helicopters, and a fully destructible environment. It had a slew of different guns to use too. It's a shame the game was forced to release in an unfinished state.

It's great if you can get into it. There's barely any story (you're trapped in a virtual reality game which will kill you if you don't win, which is probably the most obvious excuse plot ever), there are 3 sets of levels - industrial, imperial and space, 5 levels each, and the last level. 4 bosses, lots of enemies, each of them capable of being an enormous pain in the ass. 6 different characters (including four-armed Mutant, who dual-wields every gun in the game and can potentially quad-wield with perks, but only assault rifles and shotguns). Some perks and stats. You start on the level, weapon spawns, monsters spawn, repeat. Occasionally, "artefact" spawns and you must grab it before difficulty-dependant timer runs out, if you don't it's game over, if you do it's a checkpoint (3 restores only). I've had lots of fun with it.
>>
It was pretty shit even then, I mostly remember it because it was the first PC FPS I owned.

had a cool fucking intro cinematic too.

>le shoot vaguely at the direction of enemies, because you cant hit anything even when aiming to be forced to use the tactical element of running around the cover game

I hated this game so much, even if the mechanic sounded interesting. Felt like a dog thats is trainted to fetch or something.

It's gone f2p, but you can only be a rifleman.
They're also giving it a graphics overhaul for a potential steam release, so hopefully that'll unfuck their shit

fun fact:
a good friend of mine got to play BotS with 50 himself, as part of xbox's game with fame events.
>they're playing co-op
>my friend walks up to a waist high wall that has a button prompt near it
>vaults over the wall
>50 walks up to it
>is just crouching repeatedly while looking at the ground
>"man how you do this"

That reminds me.
I remember playing a shit ton of Nuclear Dawn during a free weekend event it had years ago.
Sadly, I didn't buy it because (at the time) I had no money and now that I do, I can safely assume that the game is probably dead.

igi and igi 2 were hard as fuck at the time...

none of that rushing into bases and gunning down 30 people...

im pretty sure shots could kill you pretty easy at 200 yards in those games.
>>
>>315854865
yea I emulated that and I don't think it's the one

maybe it's nostalgia but I remember them being fun as fuck

there was one where the maps were like building blocks and stuff as if you're in a kids room as the toy soldiers

and then another one where the combat was very realistic and intense

what was the name of the game that was like an unofficial sequel to Black? It had the same director or something, and it totally bombed. It was a shooter where you picked up energy orbs or something from the enemies that you killed.

It's not technically an FPS, but it's a great game. I really liked the strategy elements and the story.

Oh, and that soundtrack. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkUVUKUscMo
