I've been watching combat videos on YouTube but I'm still unsure. How does it work? Is it like what I'd think of as traditional JRPG, where your character's actions are largely separate to input? I think that, ultimately, not a lot of it was actually censorship. Aside from the armour bikini for Potato, I mean. Some of the changes feel like they were made with the best of intentions. Make it flow better, make it sound less made up, try to make it fit the setting better because some Japanese naming conventions don't translate too well into the West... I think they went a bit too far, but I don't think it was active censorship, particularly not of religious references if Amdusias and Mastema were somehow left be. I think the religious references in the BLADE acronym and Union names were just coincidental collateral damage to try and make everything fit/flow better.

I can't stand western VA for vidya and anime, while there are exceptions, it's typically the same elitist circle of twats with the vocal range of a toothpick.
I mean, I don't wanna be THAT GUY, but the VA industry in Japan is more developed, and VAs have to go through a lot of rigorous training just to get noticed, and they're selected on a per roll basis. Who suits the character best. Over in the west, they just choose people through connections and just choose whoever is popular. Not saying all western voice actors are bad, there are some good ones, but the Japanese ones are more consistently good, and better at properly conveying emotion. Something that transcends language. From what I've heard of the dub, I'm not impressed, especially when the original went out of its way to hire a top notch voice cast for the game.
To miss out on that, combined with the censorship, and the butchered script is just criminal.
