Anybody playing Mushihimesama? Haven't seen bugs this glorious since that golden Protoss unit from Starcraft that destroyed buildings.
I managed to take down second boss in original mode on first try without being touched once.
bumpo
Pretty crappy at the game myself
thought this one would have have this fight

but I realized that's from the sequel.
Mostly have trouble figuring out where to look.
Also, where is my hitbox?
What's the best shot type? I always use SI made a thread earlier but no one posted ;_;

I saw your thread :3

Too expensive for me, so I went to play Danmaku Unlimited 2 instead
it's kinda bland but not bad, music doesnt fit though.

for no good reason at all, i feel like vertical makes it easier

Stop attacking his shield. It counters your bullets. Found that out the hard way. The rest of the true final boss is up to you.
>>315719297
I love S for original but for Maniac and Ultra it doesn't seem nearly as useful because how important killing every little popcorn is.
>>315720962
It wasn't designed for TVs or computer screens. Also just flip your fucking screen ya dingus

How many sales would it take for it to be a success? I know it's from a small company, so the numbers shouldn't be that high.
Am I playing it wrong? Twin tails got killed once or twice but otherwise I made it through the stages alright.
W-Power here.

>>315724406
Bruh that's actually fucking awesome. Would you recommend ordering Futari on Play Asia, if they have it?
>>315723661
I have futari collectors edition and the dlc code for black label even works on my american 360 brehd
>>315724647
Hopefully releasing their shit on steam will get them back on the right track, because they're the top dog of this genre and their games are fucking amazing. Them having to rely on phone shit is disgusting.
I'd buy every single one of them. Beats the shit out of spending like what, 800 dollars on the Cave Shooting Collection?
I haven't played a good CAVE shooter in quite a while so it felt kind of refreshing. The last one I've played was Ibara and it wasn't so good.
Arrange mode is kicking my ass real good.
>>315724809
Yeah, Futari is no joke one of their best games period. Honestly it makes Mushihimesama (the one on steam right now) look very rough and primitive (even though it's still great.)
If you can get a decent price on it, GET IT. Just read up on it first, because IIRC there was some shit with either Futari or the first game where only first run editions came with 1.5. I'm not sure what that situation is since I preordered mine but it's worth looking into.
>>315725107
Not him but I am hoping that them getting money on steam will give us Futari.
>>315725202
Me too. I also want Deathsmiles and its sequel, Guwange, the espgaluda and DDP games, and basically anything they wanna put up there I'll buy in a heartbeat.

Mushi Futari and Saidaioujou are region free.
>>315725557
No.
>>315725592
Does Daifukkatsu have Black Label? That's really the one I want to play.
>>315725537
They've been emulated for ages now, they just don't run accurately.
>>315725680
Yes, but it involves making a PAL account with points since it's DLC.
I'm assuming that every Cave shmup that came out on 360 will eventually be making their way to Steam.
>>315726019
Nice, thanks! I know what I'm buying for Christmas!
Someone explain to me how I can get further on one credit in Maniac than in Original.
Also where can I go and read about how the scoring mechanics work because I would very much like to know.
I can't decide which shot type I like more.
I enjoy W because it helps with killing mobs but I love the movement speed of S and it destroys bosses with its A+C

Maniac isn't designed to be too much of a difficulty step over original, it's mostly an alternate more danmaku-style version of the game.
Depending on what you're used to, more but slower bullets can be a lot easier than fewer and faster

Awesome games.
God, it's impossible to make good webms of Mushihimesama. No matter how much I lower the resolution and compromise with the bitrate, I can barely get 30 second clips of action. Even after compressing it to hell and back beforehand.
When the fuck will 3MB limit be increased on this shit site and for fucks sake add sound to webms outside /gif/ other than censoring doubleplus ungood words.

I'd be fine with both. I never played the second one though and I heard it's even more casual so I'm ok with it as I'm not really that good at shmups. I could really use some of the more easy ones.
So all this stuttery slowdown that constantly drops in after stage 2 is intended and hardcoded into the game?
>>315716262

I understand clean, hardcoded slowdown for really dense boss patterns or something like that but when I'm just running through the stage and it's constantly stuttering in and out of slowdown, it looks and feels like garbage
>>315736701
touhoufags don't actually play touhou though(ou)
>>315736726
Well, it was originally a limitation of the PCBs, as you've probably already figured, so not all of the slowdown in any given title is hardcoded. Cave made it a habit to program around it. Make it a feature, so to speak. I can see where it might not be for everyone, though.
>>315736761

It's Raizing/8ing's time to shine.
For our new Steam players, here is a resource you can use in lieu of anything Steam/Cave might have provided with your purchase (which I'm betting is nothing.)
http://www.world-of-arcades.net/Cave/Mushihimesama/Mushihimesama.htm
Here, you can check out some info on Mushihimesama (and a number of other Cave titles). Of special importance is the "System" entry on the left, which will explain how to play, and how to get your head around the scoring system and things like banking child counters.
>>315738325
2hufags circlejerk is more cringeworthy, though.
It's like I'm watching roleplaying on shitty anime forum.
>>315724731
p much everything except saidaioujou and the special edition Xbox releases like keysui mode on the daifukatsu black label release are emulated
What's the deal with arrange mode? You start off with six options and you get autobombing but are there any downsides to it that make it more difficult or is it just babby mode?
>>315738325
I think what he means is that Touhou isn't realy the subject of the thread. Mushihimesama is and by that extent Cave's leap to Steam. Comparisons to this game and Touhou are fine, but any circlejerking, ranting about what's flatout better than Cave in general isn't.
The point of the thread is to talk about this game and Cave games in general because a lot of people probably didn't realize Cave was even a thing until now. If the game is a bad port or you regret buying the game that's a different story and you can explain that, but pissing away your time ranting about how Cave sucks or how good Touhou is has no point being here whatsoever. Make a seperate thread for that or go to /jp/ where most major fans of Touhou are.
Is it just me or is there no way to get a good zoom setting?
112% misses the top of the screen by one pixel and 113% cuts it off by one. Adjusting y pos doesn't help.
>>315738703
You run out of lives, you lose. Period. No continues. You also can't use the banking system like in the original mode and you can switch between shot types.

Almost makes me glad the fanbase drove me away from ever getting into the Touhou games. It would suck not having a place to talk about them, especially if you were a fan.

Sadly, I do. There used to be threads about netplay in Soku and PoFV that showed up on /v/ on a regular basis but now that's gone. Usually it's about which Touhou girl is cutest and how they are about the lore with some sprinkles about the game. Too bad because I respect ZUN's work on them considering it's mostly a solo effort on the games.

/jp/ is bad and people even suggesting such a thing should feel bad about themselves. Discussing anything shmup related there is going to end in nothing.

Anyway, I'm not going to give you the IRC channel here, because I'll never hear the end of it from the people that are in it who hate when I "name drop" players or post the channel. It's not like the IRC is some secret club though, there's like over 50 people that are frequently in it.I hang out in some other channel with my fellow super players too, but those ones actually are our secret idle club.
If you really want to know though, post your steam, that's the best I can do.

>>315740307
Bah, what's the point. And yeah, even naming players gets you hate on /jp/ too. Why even bother hating on any player? Guess some people are just jealous or something? Just, enjoy your IRC man, don't post it here.
>>315739342
They don't discuss shmup anymore since it's overwhelmed by 2hufags and jap stuff from other boards like idols.
Since mundane 2hu threads are like 90% of the thread you can think /jp/ as 2hu-exclusive /s4s/ now. Don't ever bother to talk about other things there.
>>315740431
The port is fantastic, and feels *almost* like running on my PCB. I think any subtle differences I'm picking up on are either in my head or a byproduct of my computer's hardware. Whatever the case, this puts MAME to absolute shame. I never understood how people could play on it in the first place.

Yep, me and a few friends are extremely eager to play. The demo was promising, albeit a bit broken, but I'm extremely happy to see characters from the previous games returning, usually with updated better than ever spellcards and themes. Please don't disappoint us JynX.

Yes, but does that fix /jp/ and make everyone actually playing the games and discussing any type of shmup? Of course not, otherwise I wouldn't even be posting here.

The only thing I have my doubts about is the amount of randomness in Unreal. I can't play it without an upgrade or two and I feel like I'm cheating somehow... I think Hibaru and Tenkai will even be playable so look forward to it.
>>315741251
Being waifufag attract shittier waifufags.
Why do you think Touhou thread is filled with autistic secondaries?
>>315741413
I don't think you realize why Touhoufags are Touhoufags.

Yeah.

YOU ARE PLAYING THE WRONG GENRE.

>>315738086
>over rated as fuck shmup
>>315741554
That is the deepest cut against a fan of Touhou one could make. I understand their crippling autism now. Thank you senpai.
>>315741624
Nah, I honestly just want to read the banter while dodging good stuff. It's not wrong to enjoy it, for me at least. Still, it'll be a fun game to play.
>>315741461
>Unreal
>No upgrades yet
>Get to a midboss
>Get the invincibility + darkness + guard breaking bullets
On the other hand, when you get certain upgrades, like the Parasols, the game becomes too easy, even on unreal, so hopefully JynX balances some of this shit out.
>>315741624
>IF YOU PLAY SHMUPS FOR THE STORY, SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP.
why are you such a philistine?
>>315741753
Indeed, even after the "small balance" patch, it all went to shit real fast. Level is actually a cool way of representing skill, but I think it's not balanced in terms of what they represent in total number.
>some upgrade skills only give out 10 levels
>parasols are OP as fuck
Still, it's a good way for everyone to enjoy the game at any skill level.
How autistic would you have to be to go into a thread for a specific series and try to converse about a completely unrelated franchise..
So, any tips for scoring or boosting chain? I've only seemed to go above 70,000 fighting final boss on Original/Ultra. I imagine Arrange/1.5 have higher health totals on Ultra and let you go above 200,000.

Not autistic. Just rude. Likely friendless and impotent.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrPLhATu9pU
Why is this allowed?
>>315741976
If I had to be honest, then I honestly must admit that I don't really like the random "penalties" you receive. Some are real annoying. I haven't played the demo in a while, but I'm sure there was some that inverted the controls, right? I've had some really fucked up combination of penalties on some unforgiving sections (specifically certain midbosses) which can just be an instant game over. Stuff like Inverted Controls + No Bombing + Darkness. You have no chance for stuff like this.
In a perfect world, I'd like the ability to turn the penalties on and off.
As I said though, hopefully he balances them some more. He's been working on this game in particular for quite a bit of time so I'll have some faith.
>>315741992
>>315742061
People talked about other shmups in here. Adding another to the pile doesn't do much more harm.
>>315742068
This.
>>315742280
Yeah, you're right about the inverted control ones. I dread him inverting up and down aswell... Still, it might happen, who knows.
Another problem I have is the fact Extends aren't earnable by points anymore, it's another random event, and worse part is the fact it's hard to get them since you can't even get hit or bomb.
After working on this for a year, I feel it's going to be amazing.
>>315742456
Doesn't do much harm? You've derailed yet another thread.
>>315742456
I'm OK with discussing Touhou and other shmups on /v/ so long as the elitism and shitposting is kept to a minimum.
>>315737791
Being told Touhou is the be all end all is no way to start a discussion.
>>315742175
Looks like he accumulated a shitton of bombs before the fight.
>>315742571
What are you talking about? I just woke up to this thread and started posting after seeing discussion on general shmups and not just Mushi. Are you retarded?
>>315742456
Yeah, other CAVE shmups.
This is a CAVE thread. Not a 2hu. You have a place to talk about 2hu already without drowning out other people's discussions of already niche games with white noise about fuckin 2hu.
LEAVE THIS PLACE 2HU

>I'm OK with discussing Touhou and other shmups on /v/ so long as the elitism and shitposting is kept to a minimum.
This is not a Touhou thread though.
>>315742657
Yes and those posts were deleted because that person been shitposting in these threads since the start. Take the hint.
>>315741992
Other shmup need shelter too, I guess.
Shmup thread is always dead in less than 100 posts and CAVE on Steam should enrich it.
>>315742631
This. But it's /v/, people are just shitting up because it's not Mushi. Mushi's amazing and so is everything by CAVE, but just talking about something else already rages a huge war, Christ.
>>315742662
I didn't even talk about 2hu and there was already discussion. Blame them.
>>315742720
So? It's not like talking about shmups in a shmup thread is against the rurus.

Mushihimesama Futari, but I've only played a few. Everything about it is just so comfy.

I did. I really like it. Not as much as Touhou but I'm still having a lot of fun.
They are very different though.
>>315742975
You really should anon. It will probably go on sale over christmas for $2 as it often has in the past so I'd advise you to pick it up then.
>>315743004
I'll be honest I've only played Deathsmiles andMahou Otome.
I've been waiting to see Cave put their games on Steam.

Mushihimesama Futari.
Zanac, Espgaluda and Technosoft games otherwise.

>>315743041
I'll pick it up alongside Mushi, you can bet that. They're all so different, but all so good! Add Len'en 4 to the mix and I must say 2015 was a good year for shmups. Touhou 15 was okay, but not so much as the rest.

hey guys can I play along too?
>>315743952
Noticed what? It's not a top seller, but it's a popular new release. I think Cave are gonna be satisfied either way.
340 people playing it at once, that's still a decent number considering you don't play shmups for long periods at a time.
>>315732291
>SS porn of mushi futari
FINALLY
>>315716262
What controllers do you guys use for shmups? Is the keyboard fine?
So If I understand correctly: When there's a mid boss I use LT to build up counters, then I use RB to bank it ?
What's the canon version/mode to 1cc? Original seems like the easiest Cave game, was it even on arcades?
>>315744290
Arcade stick is probably ideal, but I use a 360 gamepad.

Len'en fags in a nutshell
>>315744290

Anyone get Futari to work on MAME?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mRV4W_BiT0
>>315744290
Play with what you feel comfortable with. There's no real benefit aside from a stick's movement precision.
>>315716262
>Boss health bar at the top
>also mirrored on the bottom
I need this in more games
>>315744290
Keyboard is absolutely fine, some say it's the best way of playing but I prefer Arcade Stick.
It's all personal preference.
>>315744290
I use the madcatz TE I use for fightan usually, but when I'm too lazy to get up and grab it, I just use a 360 pad. Keyboard is probably fine too. Really anything is fine as long as you can move precisely. Not a whole lot going on with the buttons, although it is easier to switch between shot types with arcade stick or kbm.
>>315744432
Emulated versions are fucked, the games are balanced around hardware-based slowdown and since emulators are made to spoof hardware and aren't coded for individual games, they can't emulate the slowdown.
You could play it I guess, but it's not a version to take seriously. Like they wouldn't use the SNES version of SF2 at EVO for example. Same deal.
1.0 is very stale after playing Futari.
1.5 is pretty neat i guess.
>>315744719
How do I get into this genre, what's a good place to start?
>>315744798
shmup fans consider Mushihimesama to be the 9th best shmup of all-time, so it's a decent starting place. It's also the only Cave game on Steam atm.
>>315744798
Pick up something light like Cho Ren Sha 68K, which is free:
http://www2.tky.3web.ne.jp/~yosshin/my_works/download.html
Mushihimesama is a good base as well if you start on Novice difficulties.
>>315744885
Good, I'll give it a try.
What older games that can be easily emulated with mame are worth the try?
>>315744395
>Not enjoying good games.
I feel sorry for you anon, one day you'll see the light, hopefully.
>>315744719
This.
>>315744798
Just pick up whatever you can play. Maybe Mushihimesama, Crimzon Clover or Ikaruga since they're on steam.
Or Touhou if you want to be a pirate.
My local leader boards aren't working. I just got 300 mil in Mania but it still displays 100 as the local highscore.
>>315745026
Well if you're using MAME. Just go through this list and play the ones available.
http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=53159
>>315745063
Ikaruga was really my first shmup, and is still probably my absolute favorite, but let's be honest, it's not a good introduction to this style of game. It's not really bullet hell so much as a puzzle shmup.
>>315724220
>DoDonPachi Daioujou is in my top 10 games of all time
As of right now it's easily my favorite DoDonPachi game.
so is it wrong for me to find the Strikers series harder than every bullet hell ever?
>>315744146
Steamspy also shows 5K copies sold first day. If the trend goes that way it's looking really good to me.
>>315745508
>That bottom row
Yeah, much HARDER.
So what's up with Arrange mode? It seems easier than Ultra on Normal, is 1.5 a step up from that, or does it just get progressively harder and harder until it makes Ultra look easy?
What button is Continue?
Also, on Normal mode does the Difficulty in the Game Options menu actually do anything?
>>315745557
So at least $52000 (I removed 30% Steam cut), not taking into account people who picked up the bundle. That's pretty damn decent for what I assume was a cheap port. Who knows how it's split between Degica and Cave, but still..
As long as the have a 25% launch discount and include the OSTs for free, I'm gonna have to pick up every Steam release they do.
>>315745026
Psikyo, Seibu, Toaplan and all of those older companies have the most basic systems and are instantly understood.
Cave and Raizing have deeply layered systems and can be hard to understand completely, though a lot of games here run the gamut of difficulty (novice for newcomers all the way to ultra for the most challenging experience, etc.).
That said I'd recommend trying out Gunbird 2, Dodonpachi and Darius Gaiden on MAME. If you can emulate other systems, pick up PC Engine/PSX/NES and emulate games like the Soldier series, Zanac, Raiden DX, etc.
>>315745508
Gotta work your ASS for that plot
God bless Cave for some of this shit
>>315745693
Rearranged enemies, new music & you drop bombs (if you have them) when you get hit. I think that's it, I haven't read up on it, so I'm guessing. I'm not sure if there are any other differences. Oh and there's another boss at the end.
>>315742868
>What's /v/ favorite Cave game
Okay that is hard. But it's somewhere between DaiOuJou, Ketsui Kizuna Jigoku Tachi, and Mushihimesama Futari (I've only played Black Label).

Blue Wish is amazing for beginners, because it has really tight patterns but slow bullets. Its free too.

>>315745693
It's basically a retooled Maniac mode. You can't continue and if you get hit with a bullet you'll autobomb (depleting all of your stock), so use that shit up. You can switch between M/W/S shot types. You always get the TLB on Maniac mode, whereas it was only a part of Ultra, and it is as hard as Ultra.
1 is continue, but it's disabled in Arrange.
And yes, difficulty switches increase bullet speed and volume.
>>315746295
It's real. You have to get Gold on all missions and beat the game and for the ending portrait you get a picture of your pilot naked along with their measurements

Any word on what else we can expect of CAVE on Steam?
I am hankering for some Muchi Muchi Pork since I played it at a convention a few years ago.
>>315748140
There's no word yet, but it will likely be Mushihimesama Futari with Black Label DLC.
>>315748140
They are gonna bring the games released on 360 over first, due to convenience. Muchi Muchi Pork/Pink Sweets is one of the games released for 360.
So if the games they put out are successful, it's definitely coming down the line sooner than later because the work is already done.
>>315748371
They wouldn't do Futari right after the original, they likely want to mix things up.
They have 2 more releases planned for now.

It's just a one spot difference. I'm guessing Futari went to #1 when it was released on 360 and more people got their hands on it.

I associate poorfags with Touhou-fags. You know the game is rated highly, so if you know you like shmups, you know it's worth it.

>>315768093
Go for novice so that you learn
>you'll never git gud at shmups

>>315768093
when you get confident at novice swap to normal, you can get good faster by having to overcome higher odds against you. dont keep working on 1ccing stuff when you could easily 2cc it, instead pump up the difficulty and keep improving, one day you'll go back to novice and clear it without losing a life.excuse the grammar and punctuation, green tea accident has rendered me left handed only.

>>315768093
The border between each difficulty is spaced reasonably. Ultra will always be tough compared to Original, but going from Novice/Ultra to Original/Original will be less jarring since the speeds are the same.
Something I do to rapidly improve is to go into really hard modes and try my best and then dial back the difficulty to what I planned to do to begin with. I made it to Stage 5 Arrange and got my shit pushed in, then went back to Original/Maniac and things were a breeze.

>>315770562
Never played the PS2 ver., but it's white label. Shots are faster than white label's initial loop so it'd be above DOJ WL 2-ALL. Considering the entire second loop needs to be done with a single life it would be at the very top to 2-ALL Death Label.
There's also two Hibachis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8JBDyFC9BE#t=460
>>315771134
Probably alongside Dodonpachi 2-ALL. Donpachi is hard to analyze from a single video since rank control is a thing.
>>315772154
Yeah, the last boss is Ultra difficulty/health, but getting there is a breeze compared to those above it, with the exception of maybe DFK bomb styles.

Is it because it's on Steam? I played it on MAME years ago.

Flavor of the week. We won't see any more threads in a few days once people realize it's too tough.
>>315773125
but how the fuck is this game flavor of the week when it was available for so long?
is steam really that strong in making people's opinions and tastes change?
like, if I release the shitty Mario DOS game on Steam people are suddenly going to like it even though it's been available for free since the early 90s?
How to deal with fast bullets? It feels like I die just because some extra fast bullet killed me in mere second and I could not see it.
>>315773543
>is steam really that strong in making people's opinions and tastes change?
Yes. Most people who use the service just tide with sales and rarely leave its comfort zone. That's why you see garbage like 100% OJ pop up on the front page of /v/ when they're on sale.
>>315747638
What's the difference between Mushihimesama Arrange and 1.5?
>>315772978

This sorta stuff happens all the fucking time, how's it so surprising? It's not like this thread is JUST discussing Mushi either, its a general shmup/danmaku thread.
>>315773543
Before this release to get this game legally you either needed to go out of your way to get a japanese 360 or play the obscure ps2 port. The game is now widely available in a popular platform, of course it's more popular.

>Arrange:
- Start at 300,000 multiplier with MAX power.
- Similar to Futari Black Label, you have to point blank to boost your multiplier (higher gem value if enemies are killed close to Reco).
- TLB is always encountered when playing this, an Ultra level difficulty boss.
>Cave Matsuri 1.5:
- Different visuals and sounds.
- Gems are drawn in once shot is released.
- Original: Similar to Futari Black Label Original. Rank tied to gem counter, with changes once you pass 10,000 (green outline, moderate speed bullets) and 50,000 (yellow outline, fast speed bullets). Counterstop at 99,999.
- Maniac/Ultra: Same as Original variants but now with point blanking (higher gem value if enemies are killed close to Reco).
- 6 weapon configurations: -M/W/S (Original) and MAX variant.
MAX 1.5:
- You start fully loaded with 4 options and MAX Power.
- Autobomb.
- You only get one bomb.

Don't respond. Lets not derail the thread any further/again.
So far I am loving the port. I've had only some graphical issues with stage 4, but otherwise everything's been good so far, accurate. Cleared original, maniac, arrange... Gonna tackle 1.5 now, which is fucking amazing, but shamefully DLC.
But I guess I will return to DOJBL after that, since ultra is way beyond my score. Gotta get that 2-ALL.
I just wish they'd port some other games for Steam, like Ibara which doesn't have an adequate port, or something that doesn't have a port at all, like ESP.ra.de. 1.5 version that doesn't have shitty boss-milking. But I am dubious that it will ever happen, since the company is already in very bad shape.

I heard lot of their old programmers left for M2, but if IKD is still in, there's probably still capabilities for some new shmups. Haven't liked direction of newer games. Too much pandering with girls and whatnot.

No, I remember back when it happened, I watched the video, and I even remember reading comments later by the japanese press guy, I remember he was a bro and wasn't even mad at Fish.
I don't see how other people being on the panel changes anything.
Fish isn't a rockstar, he didn't even make anything other than Fez, I don't see why he feels he's entitled to treat act disrespectful toward press, he should be grateful people care about his shit. He probably wanted to act controversial to gain fame, but it didn't work for him, people ended up hating him.
The twitter drama when he said Fez 2 was cancelled and everyone laughed at him was the final nail on his coffin.

You heard part of Fish's response, you did not hear the full conversation. There was a discussion between the panelists and they all agreed that modern Japanese games are not what they used to be. I don't see how anyone can deny that, but that's not the point.
He was asked a question about something and answered it.
>>315779684
That happens for a lot of devs. It happened for the "poor" dev who asked Phil Fish the question at the panel even. Fish's mistake was that he did not put his tail between his legs and run away when the witch hunt started, instead he fueled the fire.
>aware Rome wasn't built in a day
>still frustrating as hell to not make any progress and die stupidly
My first run I didn't die or bomb until stage 3, then stage 3 happened, and then I game over'd on stage 4. So then I practiced stage 3 for an hour until I could do it without dying and bombing. Now on my runs I'm doing worse than my first run, even on stage 3.
I don't want to credit-feed (I only do score attack and don't use continues), but is that a better way to practice?
>>315780004
>That happens for a lot of devs
No it doesn't, unless your definition of "a lot" is a few people here and there. The vast, vast majority of indie devs don't have this problem even if you just count the most popular games. Most devs don't make a spectacle out of themselves in the first place, because they aren't idiots.
>>315780004
moder japanese games include stuff like Dark Souls and Bayonetta, so I don't know, man.
Also, regardless of the topic, or if japanese games suck or not, Fish acted like a rockstar. he was full of himself.
He got what he deserved. Public hate.
>>315780230
That's pretty normal, especially if you've been playing for a while without stopping. Take a break and come back later. For me the most effective way is to do full runs every time unless something specific is giving me trouble. That way I do my best on the later stages and practice the early stages to the point where I can do them in my sleep. It also gives you a good reason to improve your score since the early stages become very boring to play through otherwise.
>>315778459

MY NIGGA
Am I a faggot for not really caring about scoring in shmups? I'm hardly good enough at them to 1cc them, so scoring just doesn't appeal to me. It's kind of why I bounce around between shmups all the time.
>"Fez is good" shitposter
Can't you shitposters leave this thread fucking alone?
>>315780656
You're doing yourself a disservice. Trying to beat your own scores is the most fun way to work towards a 1cc. Trying hard to maximize your score on the early stages usually gives you extends along with making it more engaging. Instead of doing the same boring routine that stopped giving you any challenge ages ago, you're constantly thinking about how to improve your score and trying to do it. In games with good scoring systems there will always be room for improvement and you'll always feel like you're making progress.
>>315780247
He specifically singled out those games as good games though. There are a lot of people who can't see clearly on this website and can't listen to reason. Take Capcom, they are a joke compared to what they were in the 90's and 00's.
>>315780242
It wasn't a spectacle to begin with, it was an unjustifiable witch-hunt. It became one when he didn't back down to trolls.
We're obviously not gonna agree. So lets just forget about it and get back on topic. I know it's a controversial opinion to not hate Fish on here.
What game is everyone hoping they are porting to Steam this Christmas? I'm pulling for the Muchi Muchi Pork! / Pink Sweets combo as I've always wanted to play them but was short on funds when it came out.
>>315781030
>Take Capcom, they are a joke compared to what they were in the 90's and 00's.
Yeah of course Capcom will never be as great as they were in the 80s and 90s. Most of their talent left in the mid 00s.
Anyway, how is western industry any better? I agree the japanese industry is a shadow of its former self, but the western industry is rotten to the core.
>>315781025
I subtly do some scoring stuff and I never do the same thing on each run.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that since my progress on shmups have never been all that great, I try to take every level as I can. Mushihimesama is really the first shmup that I've come close to making very conscious decisions in regards to score because I find the feel of the game to be very appealing.
At the same time I realize that it is also part of me being lazy. I've never really tried to analyze the score systems in shmups. I kind of take them as it is from pure mechanical stand-point because I'm just not that great at them.
>>315781030
I'm hoping for Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu Black Label since it was the first Cave game I played on MAME and I loved it from the first minute.
>>315781578
Yeah I know how you feel. It takes a game with a very intuitive and deep system to make you realize just how much fun playing for score can be. It wasn't until I played RayForce did I realize it myself.
>>315780656
Nah, scoring is only for enthusiasts. Survival should be the end goal of any player, though. Scoring ties into survival, but if it's a distraction then don't bother. Enjoy the game first and foremost. Fancy stuff can come when you can beat it in your sleep.
I would buy the shit out of this game right now but Ikaruga has taught me how much of a shitter I am at shmups. I'll buy it in the future for cheap to remember just how crap I am at these games.
>>315782001
What does that even mean? Do you expect to be able to clear a shmup on your first attempt or something? Everybody sucks at them, then they practice a lot and get better. And so will you if you dedicate some time to it.
>>315782001
If you want the OST, it's best to buy it now since the game is 25% off and comes with the OST for free (normally 5€).
>>315782181
Ikaruga is a mess of a game that will turn any player off. A shame really, considering this is an actually good title.
>>315782001

>>315782181

>>315781908
Personally, they sort of intermingle. You start out with survival, then start learn scoring for stages for that you have down survival-wise. Becomes less boring that way, too. Plus sometimes it just happens while learning to survive, as well. That's how I learned most of 2-5 chain in DOJBL.
>>315782001
Ikaruga's a strange fruit anyway. Mushi is more traditional, has novice modes, plus original mode is easier than Ikaruga on easy.
>>315782236
It is only the 1.0 OST + some other tracks. Doesn't contain 1.5 or arrange-stuff.
>>315782648
It is an arranged version of sort. 1.5, various changes, see >>315775473
Worth every penny, especially if you buy it in the bundle.
Why is the music sound quality of 1.5 ver so fucked?
It was the same with X360 port when it was released, and was fixed in a patch.
The fuck CAVE? Literally it's hard for me to imagine how something like this happens, TWICE
>>315782648
>What is Matsuri mode and is it worth the money?
see >>315775473
I think it's worth because it has music arranged by Ryu Umemoto, but for the average player (who doesn't really like shooting games) the base game is enough and 1.5 will be a waste. Compare:
Namiki (Original): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAwBx8sxxlA
Umemoto (Arrange): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaZhoulRHhQ
I'm just not a fan of that sort of experimentation in Ikaruga, so it's a mess to me.
>>315782935
Thank you, I missed that post somehow.
I am not a hardcore shmupper and I expect Original mode to be more my speed: is it definitely worth purchasing 1.5 if the main differences are scoring and 'hardcore' modes?
>>315783287
It is still worth purchasing, no matter your skill level. It's way more vibrant than the main game in my opinion (it looks more colorful, bullets have nice glow in some modes etc.).
To me and many others it's literally a version 1.5, an upgraded version compared to 1.0.
Especially worth it if/when they fix the sound quality of the 1.5 version soundtrack. Right now it's mono and shit quality like >>315782954 said.

Hard to say. It feels better in almost every aspect - mostly scoring-wise. There are some changes in stages as well.
IMO it is worth of money. The changes are not not staggering to you probably. OST's good but has the sound problem described.

2 more planned for now, more if they are successful. I highly doubt one of them is gonna be Futari.

I don't know if I count since I love all bullet hells, but am very much a memespouting, armpit fetishizing Touhoufag, but I bought Mushihimesama as soon as they fixed the Week 1 sale and I'm enjoying it. To be fair, I played it on iOS and burned a copy of the PS2 version, but it's great playing it on my sorely underused gaymen PC in tate mode. Here's hoping CAVE releases many more of their games on Steam

Why anon, why.
At least tell me you keep it contained to /jp/.

At least you admit it.
Since this thread is here, I've been playing DDP Daioujou and trying to get a 1-ALL, but I just noticed there's a difficulty setting. Is there a standard for what I should have it set to?

Thanks, I think I'll pick it up then.

Don't give us a bad name, anon.
>>315785459
Being a degenerate is fun when you accept you'll never get laid. I keep it contained to mostly certain private Fagbook groups, but I'll post in /jp/ when I remember that board exists

It's a little too late for that anon, but I agree.

Factory-defaults. Which I think are medium-difficulty, 3 lives, extends at 10 & 30 mils for WL, 20 and 50 for BL, from top of my head.
The difficulty slider doesn't do much, though, since it mostly affects rank.
>>315786223
>medium-difficulty
So Hard, then?
>>315786223
The amount of enemy bullets is increased too.

She's going to protect that smile wheter you want it or not.

Should be medium or normal.

I like this. I like it a lot.
>Finally 1cc the game on novice
>no achievement
>score isn't saved.
I-t's not like I had a hard time or anything.
>>315787778
There's only Easy, Normal, Hard, and Very Hard, though.
>>315787778
This is by far the most boring bullet pattern I've ever seen. I mean it's hard, yeah, but it's not very interesting

>There's only Easy, Normal, Hard, and Very Hard, though.
>Normal
Well, there you go.
>>315788286
Should have picked up an achievement for that. 1CC is across both modes (Novice/Original), even the Ultra Mania one (clear stage 3 without continuing on Ultra) can be done on Novice.
How does it compare to Crimson Clover? I kind of got my fill of bullet hell games with it recently, debating if I should pick up another one
>>315788928
Great, I guess I was good all along then. Thanks for the help.

I hate Aki's final attack pattern. I can never figure him out before self destructing.
