Millenial means anybody whose main source of childhood memories comes from the 2000s. This is not a difficult concept to grasp.
People born in the early 90s are on a thin line in whether they're actually a 90s kid or a millenial depending on what they likely did as a child. Some will have grown up watching reruns of late 80s shows and dubbed anime alongside playing the N64 and PS1, others somehow missed all of that and their only memories comes from sports as a kid followed by 00s culture.

Basically arcade machines in singles bars. Not really anything that affected you if you were still "growing up". "Video game culture" was "dudes trying to get laid using PONG as an ice breaker". Make of that what you will.

This will be hard for you kids to believe, but this was THE funnest era in gaming ever. The "culture" of this generation was 100% social and in-person. I cannot possibly say enough about how fun it was hanging out at arcades back then. Watch the beginning of TRON when Jeff Bridges was playing that game with all those people standing around watching him. It was almost exactly like that. Nothing since even comes close to the experience of this generation. Even the console side was great. If you had an Atari 2600 everyone on your block would want to come over to your house to play it. Just an incredible time.

Probably the funnest generation for kids along with Gen 2, although the beginning of a decline in the overall experience for adults compared to the previous gen. Not much to say about this, since you've probably heard it all. Although one thing that I think is forgotten about the "culture" is how HUGE a part of it that renting was in the 3rd Gen. That was a BIG deal then and an easy way to try dozens of games without having to be rich.

On the console side of things one of the two worst gens for adults, and the beginning of a lot of the more unpleasant elements of "gaming culture" with all the XTREME! attitude and companies actively encouraging fanboyism. From a kid's perspective though it was fun. The arcades were GREAT with SFII and MK and whatnot, though inner city arcades were DANGEROUS around then. PC gaming was fucking AMAZING though and where the adults retreated after consoles turned more kid/teen-centric.

The other worst gen for adults. I'm not sure which was the worst of the two. Arcades were on their way out, but PC was still amazing. Consoles were the most embarrassingly juvenile EVER though with garbage like Conker's Bad Fur Day and A LOT of other games with that whole "LOOK HOW EDGY AND MATURE WE ARE" style to them. At the same time kids were having a lot of fun with multiplayer on N64, which was a BIG deal back then. This was essentially when the whole concept of kids having sleepovers and just staying up and playing games all night became a thing. Nobody really did that in the previous gens. So that was a fun thing, and I know a lot of /v/ remembers it fondly, understandably so. Portables were SHIT from an adult perspective, but fun from a kid's perspective (read: they were Pokémon players).

Adults starting migrating away from PCs and back into console gaming. Portables are still shit. Kids start taking over internet gaming sites and "gaming culture" becomes synonymous with "internet culture". Xbox brings foul mouthed little fucks to the world and ruins online gaming on consoles (which was doing fine on PC though). Overall a mess of a generation, but with amazing games. The overall quality of the "culture" depends onyour feelings about "internet culture" at the time.

Wii was fun for parties and hanging out with friends and family. Fighting games made a comeback, which was cool. Portables got awesome again, maybe better than ever. PC was MMOs (fuck that shit, seriously, did more harm to "gaming culture" than anything ever). Consoles became primarily online driven. Overall quality of the "culture" depends on how you feel about online gaming on consoles.

This gen sucks. The biggest games of this generation are Minecraft and GTA V, both games from LAST gen. Still has yet to be a single defining game of THIS gen, despite being years in by now. VERY slow start for this gen. Portables are SHIT again. PC is kinda mediocre. Seriously, WTF happened?
CONCLUSION: 8th Gen is overall the worst gen to grow up in. Literally nothing to make up for its flaws.
