I've enjoyed my WiiU experience so far and still have games I want/am looking forward too, but I didn't buy in at launch. The WiiU itself is pretty shitty. The hardware was too expensive. The gamepad doesn't add much and took away from resources that could've made the WiiU more powerful. If not for Splatoon, I would've said the gamepad was a total waste. And it's dead, too. Nothing's changing that. Better to move on.

Not really. It's a bit cheaper than normal consoles, and I got a few classics out of it. Replacing it so soon isn't ideal but is necessary - they bungled the launch, it will never get a successful install base and wasn't a "little" less powerful than the PS4 or XBONE, it was closer to last gen.
I'm happy with the wii u experience, flawed as it is. I will get an NX. If it has another short lifespan, I won't get its successor.

All Nintendo has released is spin-offs and it doesn't looking like that will change. We've heard nothing of a proper Mario release or Metroid and Zelda Wii U looks more like it's going to be Zelda NX every day. If the NX really is going to compete with PS5 and XB3 then the chances of a duel release is slim due to the hardware being over a generation apart.
The Wii U is a sinking ship and Nintendo have abandoned it. Star Fox was revived simply to release a Nintendo IP on the system while they concentrate on the NX.

I had a great time with my Wii U. It was the center of almost every gettogether we had, the games were great for groups and the single-player/campaign-focused games were tons of fun with my roommates. Nintendoland is easily my most played next to smash simply because of how much fun it could generate even with non-gamers.
Pikmin 3 was a great (if a bit short) sequel for a big fan like me. Tropical Freeze was more of DKCR's great level design plus some kickass music. Splatoon was a great idea with fantastic execution and lots cool elements. 3D World is among my favorite Mario's to date and is an absolutely sublime example of NOT just making a sequel. It combines elements from the whole series absolutely effortlessly and is just a phenomenal effort for Nintendo, and doubly impressive for a team with little-to-no influence from Miyamoto.
Hyrule Warriors and Mario Maker are fun distractions, but not much substance to them.
It's more games than I can say for most consoles that are "must-own", and I had a fantastic time playing all the exclusives. Were there bad choices made? Yep. But the result wasn't worthless.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the NX turns out, but as with any console launch it's probably not smart to buy it immediately.

I played the Splatoon testfire in May and I couldn't really get into it. Maybe its because I don't like console shooters, but I didn't like either gyro or stick controls. Aiming felt so laborious.
And then there's the fact that matches last 3 minutes. I don't know about you but that feels like an inordinate amount of time to play an online shooter, compared to Counter Strike or TF2. The essence of it all can't sink in well enough for me with the constant restarting.
Also... It feels really futile. Like, I know the object of the game is to cover territory and not amass a kill score, but it feels like only the last 30 seconds matter in regards to taking control. The other 2 minutes feels really uneven because of that.
Is there other modes that circumvent that issue? Is there a slight competitive edge to it? I'm not a tourneyfag but I like online games that reward me for skill and depth in gameplay, not like how I'd say Mario Kart or Smash is SUPER DUPER MLH COMPETITIVE, but I'd like to have at LEAST something that requires me to git gud on top of the casual outer shell. The comparisons to TF2 and Counter-Strike are pretty silly, aren't they? Splatoon isn't objective-based, it's territory control. The entire purpose is to dominate the map. 3-minute matches are short, but as you said, if the last 30 seconds are all that matters, why extend it? It's similar to sports: It all comes down to the last quarter. That's when everybody brings their A-game and does the "SECRET FINISHING MOVE".

I haven't played in a few months but last I checked there was something like 20 different weapons total. Varieties of each type, plus types of subweapons. Some of the weapons that were in the test fire were shitty, but it's beginner gear.

The skill in splatoon is about position, strategy, and most importantly, your team! If your teammates suck, you're gonna lose even if you're pushing 11:0.

For too long they've relied on Mario to get them out of hot water but less and less people seem to care about him anymore. The kids these days are playing Minecraft, not Mario.
Besides, I don't think Nintendo make compelling experiences. I'm the type of consumer that likes a little big of meat on the bones of my games...something to really get my teeth into and there is very little, if any, depth to a Nintendo game.
In a world where Star Citizen and No Man's Sky along with a host of other space shooter exist, Star Fox looks like something a teenager put together during his spare time.
