Why is PCSX2 so shit. I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for that shit to make some breakthroughs like Dolphin does in a fucking month and nothing. Most games still have weird flickering polygons and visual artifacts, still getting sound stuck glitches in Katamari etc. The rendering scaling is shit.

Yup. I run PCSX2 with actually that exact set up. GTX960, i5, and 8g of ram.
60FPS on pretty much every PS2 game. I haven't tried Virtua Fighter yet (that's the ballbreaker apparently), but I don't really give a fuck about that game.

I used this just for Nocturne. Literally one of the only games to give me trouble. I took SPU2-X 1.1.0 for the sound plug-in because I wasn't having any problems with FPS (but I had a low internal resolution because the game is already pretty cel-shadey and detail lacking)
Linuz Iso CDVD 0.9.0 is also the most important step from the guide as far as I'm concerned.

Nocturne is notoriously rough for whatever reason. I would get 60 fps everywhere but battles. Then as soon as demifiend punched the entire game slowed down and the sound would be fucked for the rest of the battle.
Somehow beat the game like that though, still enjoyed it thoroughly.

PS2 beats Gamecube just for content (no Separate Ways in GC), and SD PC is literally unplayable shit that crashes constantly and has no controller support.

Gamecube version is better than PS2, both in performance and visuals. Subpar content doesn't make up for poor FPS and terrible looking visuals in most of the game imo

Front Mission 5: Scars of the War. One of the only PS2 games to get a full proper translation patch. Literally owe it to yourself to play this with an emulator because we never got it in NA.

I honestly didn't notice any issue with the visuals or FPS aside from the pre-rendered cutscenes. PS2 doesn't get costume-changes in cutscenes where GC did.

Nobody can reverse-engineer the graphics on it, iirc. I've heard promising things about cxbx though, which was attempting to run Xbox code on Windows. They've got a decent number of games running (but not Metal Wolf Chaos which is the only reason I still own a phat. It's one of maybe 10 games that don't have 360 compatibility)

Well the visuals just look worse than the GC version. That's just how it is. On the actual ps2 it had frame drops when I played it in several areas. Typically around water for some reason.
I don't blame them though, they had to port the game in like 6 months with the team at that point having little experience with the PS2
