Alright, here's the down-low on skeletons. I know nobody in their right fucking mind will agree with what I'm about to explain but this is exactly the mindset of these people.
The idea is that you're supposed to be buried whole. No cremation. If you die lost a lot of effort will be made to recover your corpse to bury it properly.
The reason why it is so important to be "whole" is because in the end-days when Jesus comes back, he will raise everyone - he can't fucking raise you if you're a pile of bone dust. The idea that there are animated skeletons walking around means they are subverting what Jesus offers in the future. Animated skeletons are a mockery of the Resurrection because Jesus would restore you whole - skeletons are obviously not whole, therefore they are NOT the work of Jesus. Because the Resurrection has not happened, Jesus hasn't come back, and "historically" the only beings who can half-ass attempt a mockery of Jesus's powers stem from the Devil if not the Devil himself.
Remember, it's just fucking fiction to us. But to the crazy batshit religious nutball skeletons walking around are as far from Jesus as you can imagine.
Here's something you have to remember about religious people. They either concern themselves with the concept of Hell or they don't. My parents controlled my video game consumption with no-nintendo days, weeks, and months. The name stuck because when it first started, we only had Nintendo consoles (around the SNES era)
They came in No Nintendo Days, where no video games were allowed at all for the entire day, Weeks, where they were disallowed all day every day except Saturday, and sometimes we would get a 1/2 hour each, and then Months, where there were absolutely no games any day of the week.

Saya was the only thing keeping Fuminori from going completely insane and either killing himself or as many people around him as he could, and Fuminori was the only one who would support Saya's goals to transform the planet.
Of course Fuminori ended up rather insane in the end anyway, but through a less immediately dangerous path.
