I went to TGS in 2008 and I'll probably never go to another one again in my life.
Not anymore, I went to one and realized I'm a normalfag. I find cosplay cringe as fuck, and when I went around browsing stalls I kept getting asked what anime I watch or what my favourite JPRG was. Everyone gave me blank faces when I told them I used to love Operation Flashpoint.

I went to PAX Prime last 2 months ago. First time going too.
Had a blast playing some of the unreleased games at the time like Star Fox 0.
Got to meet some celebrities like the smash bros community people like D1, Gimr and M2k. I helped out a street fighter guy learn how to play smash bros and he adapted and learned pretty well. Even gimr got a chance to ask us how we were doing in a free play session.
The merchandise was kind of underwhelming but it was nice to see the actual Valve store there.
Some cosplays were nice here and there.
Had a lot of fun.

Last year I went to the Oct one and it was great. Actual games there to play, the Merch was alright.
Heck if a stand had a good body pillow I would have bought it this time. But there was like 2 stands with about 4 pillows each probably 2-3 were the same as eachother.
But the con just gone it was literally just Tokyo Ghoul, DBZ, AOT, then the random anime girl figures on any JP Stalls and Western was just Marvel, Batman and Transformers. No variety at all this year.

Me and my friends used to go to the big one in our state every year, and I went to one out of state with a different group of friends, but didn't go to any this year, none of us did.
They were fun the first one or two times, but after that they weren't that great, since it just seemed like the same thing each year, just slightly bigger.

I went to EGX this year (and Rezzed the previous 2 years) there was the best Makise Kurisu cosplay I've ever seen, there was a cute girl dressed as the queen alien from aliens, her costume was amazing. There was a guy in a Khorne Berserker costume that was fucking boss it was about 7/8 foot tall. 2 guys dressed in Halo spartan armour that was pretty cool too, and a really cute Crystal Maiden cosplayer. I went to PAX Aus this year too. First time for me going to one of these convention things, as normally I don't really give a shit. I had an okay time. I bought a three day pass but by Sunday I felt like I'd kinda seen and done everything I needed to. It helped to go with a good crowd otherwise I could see it getting really boring unless you really want to sit and watch Smite tournaments.
One thing I did observe, not being overly familiar with these kind of events, is how many fucking geeks/nerds have bright pink hair. Like...heaps man. Fucking heaps. Many girls, but mostly dudes. So many have their hair cut short and kinda whispy flicked style, dyed bright pink.

I went to a comic book convention, still, there were plenty of game related cosplays. I didn't take any pictures because I was with my brother and his daughter, but I saw a group doing most the people from Borderlands 2, and a guy during the Q&A with Billy Yost and Austin St. John who looked like Max Payne circa MP3 during the final part of the game. I'm honestly not sure if this guy was doing a cosplay or not, but he was bald and everything, hawaiian shirt, beard, slightly overweight looking but muscular, the whole nine yards.
It definitely wasn't my thing though holy shit it was so crowded.

I go to the three local cons. One is a reasonably big one called Tora-Con that gets a couple thousand, one is a wannabe called Roc-Con with a lot of money and no brains of what to do with it, and one is a small but fun local-fan-run get together called Ani-Bash that gets a couple hundred. It's nice because the smaller nature of it all means you see some less-often-seen (or so it seems) cosplays like Colette/Sheena from Tales of Symphonia or characters from Code Lyoko or the like. I went as the Raincoat Killer for Tora-Con a couple years back, but I don't have any good photos unfortunately, though I know a lot of people took them.

It's a pretty chill con. A nice handful of arcade machines and selection of games to play that will certainly help get you grouped up with some buds and make the weekend that much more enjoyable. There was no real "fun stuff" to do when I went with my friends. Standing in line for hours to watch a video isn't fun. Watching SFIV at the Twitch booth was likely the best thing to do there, since I could talk about it with my friend who stuck with me, due to not wanting to stand in lines either.
