Jane had been constantly talking about how the baby is a burden, referring to AJ as "it", implying to Rebecca while she was still pregnant that she should dump the baby immediately after birth, etc. It's not hard to put two and two together and think that she ditched it once she had time to be alone with it. Also, with the condition that she left the baby in, it could've very easily actually died. The only reason anybody besides Jane knows that the baby is still alive is because they heard it crying by complete coincidence. If they had not heard the baby crying after the fight they would've assumed it was dead or missing and moved on, meaning the baby would've actually died.
