Maybe, but I imagine censoring #FE would be much more difficult than censoring FFV. For one, they'd have to go back and change all the pre-rendered and 2D animations as well as the in game character models. In Fatal Frame, all the scenes were rendered in real time, making it considerably easier to go in and tamper with it.

I don't think they are refusing. If anything I am almost certain that they will unmask after you progress in the story, complete their plot lines, and or maximize their points/levels.
They have forgotten who they are. And the masked faces is part of that. When they finally remember who they are they are bound to unmask themselves. Probably unlocking a special attack and or special transformation in the process too.

Monsters from another world invade, drawn to the creative energies born from arts within every person which is basically life force.
The mirages, being the monsters that invade, are beings from other worlds, and now hunt this force wherever it is found.
But the main cast becomes Mirage Masters, and form Master / Servant relationships with mirages who they partner up with.
And like that they use the mirages and the creative energy born from performing in order to right the wrongs that the entertainment industry invited, while using the entertainment industry and entertainment to fight it.
More or less.
You fight alongside your partnered Mirages, recovering their memories, and getting to the source of the problem. Aiming to set things right. Is what it looks like.

I'm just saying the game is around 2 my of favorite franchises and has none of the appeal of either and is closer to compile heart mixed with P4DAN than it is either franchise.
The gameplay itself doesn't even look as deep as P4, which itself is a watered down SMT. And the "FE" elements are just titles and thematic things, not actually affecting gameplay much like they do in the Tactical Role Playin Situation.
I was hyped for this game from the original SMTxFE trailer, and I'm still trying to see if there is still value in it rather than being a grumpy crossover demanding faggot, but I just don't see it. .
Especially with how heavy the emphasis is on Idol culture which is niche as fuck in Japan as it is, I can't find any appeal, despite the 2 franchises I love being supposedly together for this.

You're locked into using spells if you start one with a spell so you need to plan how you do your session attacks carefully. If you do them well, you get to some fucking cuh-razy combo numbers.
