The order to play them in is as follows :
8 > 7 > 6 > 10 > 11 > 14 >12 (13 is shit)
Remember to get the vpatch, at least for 6 through 9.
At the same time, play 9.5, 12.5 and 12.8 occasionally.
Once you've 1cc'd all the games on normal or higher, start looking up the story and characters on the wiki until you understand the plot for each game, and know all characters by name and know enough about them.
Then, start reading the books and manga.
After all that, you'll not only be good at touhou, but you also won't be tainted by loads of secondary shit before you know the actual canon.

You need to play 6 first, then 7 and 8 in whatever order. Then play 10 - 13 in order. Play 14 any time after 6. If you still want more, play the pc98 games, 2 - 5. Play 9 after playing 6, 7, and 8. There's no real reason to play 1 aside from some good music. 1 is the only game I would consider optional, you should really try all other games at some point.

As other anon mentioned, play them in order starting from 6, while it doesn't show your hitbox, it has simple patterns in normal mode and doesn't have any score gimmicks, the v-patch is optional and makes the game a lot easier but if you are struggling with your reaction time then use it.

Yes, I tried doing a no item run in ISC and that card was pretty fucking hard. While the first phase with the knives is not that hard, the real killer is doing the spin arround her, it requires a lot of pressicion and good timing with your fingers.
I never captured it because the stress was unbearable but i have to admit that i only tried to capture it a few times.
There are other card that are extremely hard too but most of those are because there is a lot of RNG involved.
