and

on drums (which is easier since it's basically the same thing over and over again).

Learn to make songs yourself.
>>
How do I git gud at Piano? Aside from the obvious practice and just keep playing, is there anything specifically I should be trying to do or learn?
>>
>>289279438
yeah but that gets boring too done enough
you need fresh creativity so I dont always force myself or practice improv or composition
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=az8ztbv3XMM
>>
>>289279621
No, you pretty much just answered your question. Well, I mean, learning to play by just listening to something is a pretty good skill. You know, connecting a note being played to what the actual note is. You hear a chord and you are able to hear that its a G Major chord or something like that.
>>
>>289279674
.. That's literally making new music.
>>

obviously
this or you are a massive pussy
>>
>>289279674
Doesn't really matter if it's "overdone" if you enjoy creating.
If you need ideas, here's my tip:
Find something that you really like but that there isn't enough in the world.
Start doing that yourself.
This is easier the more obscure the music you're into is.
>>
>>289279438
>what is practice

inner creativity is great, but sometimes it can be stoked by learning the ins and outs of other's creations
>>
>>289279986
there is only so much you can do with music
its never really new, its all remix again and again

>>289280048
>learning to play electronic arrangements

I love making stuff like this but it would never sound right played on a piano, there are too many effects and different instrument sounds at play. It's more of a studio piece than something you'd actually learn to play
>>
>>289280074
True.
God, I wish I never stopped playing piano, but I kinda started too late.
Video game music was the first thing I tried too, I had found some sheet music for Final Fantasy 7 and 8.

>>

Not too complex, should be easy enough. The timing of this music was just brilliant, fitted the bossfights perfectly. Good synths.
>>
>>289280301
It's never too late anon, I'm 26 and I'm still no virtuoso

All that really matters is
1. Having music ideas and
2. Being half-way able to string them together into something you can practice

Even if you just learn other people's shit until you feel confident enough to come up with yourself there's no shame in that. Most musicians are self-taught including some of the most successful ones ever.
>>
>>289280048
That might sound good if you had a guitarist for the electronic bassline, but for piano, that's plain too much.
>>
>>289280403
I said nothing sounds new since its all coming from the same roots

remix doesnt mean everything is the same
>>
>>289280163
He's right though anon

There are only so many original ideas, especially if we're getting specific as ideas that others would be interested in hearing

There's a reason so many hit songs share the same chord progression, because most music is the same shit over and over and people like it that way

However he's wrong to take the next step of saying there's no point in making music
>>
I'm learning Godot's Theme and Megaman 3 ending on the sax. Fucking perfect in theory, except I have a cheap-ass alto that can barely play a B below the staff, and a G above the staff

Most music is not shallow mainstream pop shit.

>>

I've been making music myself for quite a while now. I can design sounds, mix and master well enough.
I'm just not that good at composing, and if I had put more effort into piano I might be better by now.
It's just that thanks to ADD, my motor skill just isn't that good, and I don't think that's ever going to go away. At least I can always sequence. I can compensate by being good at that at least.

>>
>>289281043
look pop is not an easy label to put on music since it means its music made to sell, which is pretty much everything today

Even accomplished musicians with various genres still have pop structure to a large amount of songs

>some anon says you get bored of playing vidya music
>I say you can get bored of anything if you do it enough

you should be as well rounded as possible is all

having a repitiore is good, you can always make changes to songs you know well and make it sound different
>>
>>289281221
You don't know what "pop music" means, do you?
>>
>>289280896
I am personally looking to me more of a scoring and studio type artist than a performer so there's no shame in that

Trent Reznor doesn't go on stage and play his music himself, he gets a bunch of session guys to do it and even then no individual one of them is comprehensively playing the piece. His music is so multilayered that it ends up being lots of simple components which become complex from the larger perspective of the arrangement
>>

I never understood the people who feel the need to always judge music. "Pop music is to little of this", "classical is to much of that". Why not try to understand each piece of music on its own premises? The only person who wins is you.

you just suck, and your further excuses with using an ERG just prove this, as most guys playing 7/8 strings try to mask their inability to play in time and create good riffs with chugga chugga
>>
>>289290746

Don't forget cartridge restrictions.
>>
>>289290783
I don't own an ERG, I thought using an 8 string to mimic the lows and highs of a piano would be more fitting since you have more contrast.
I'm talking more about making a whole arrengement and not only covering a part of the melody.

you can play 6 string and play bass and melody just fine

>>289291072
I fully understand that, I own 2 7strings myself (not keen on 8 tho) but I just noticed those things with most people.

Anyway, most things are easily achievable on 6 strings. If you wanna some heavy shit then check Sylosis, they're heavy as fuck because they use inverted power chords (prime with a fourth instead of fifth), even if they're in classic E standard
