I still question the rationale behind Godzilla going out with a whimper instead of a bang. Originally he was supposed to melt down beating Destoroyah to death but they changed it to having the focus entirely on him as he dies. Personally I think the original idea would've been much more appropriate a manner for Godzilla to die literally asserting his dominance and pouring out his rage in his final moments.

I thought the idea was great, but kind of wasted in that they made his power go off the charts and he still couldn't outright kill Destoroyah. I know technically he did contribute to killing him by sheer presence but I would've rathered he killed him directly.

The message is nature is killed by modern society.

Or if you want to get racial, Kong is an innocent black guy taken away from his home and forced to entertain white people. He dies from breaking free.

There's a flash game that's called You Only Die Once, or something like that. It's your standard mario-esque castle game, but your death is accompanied by a funeral and text that can be longer then the actual game. Refreshing only shows more, unique text depending on how you died.
>>
>>286799127
I really hope the sequel ups its game. I think it'd put the first film in better light since it serves as an intro to the series.
>>
>>286799738
I really liked the idea of a foe that Godzilla can't kill. G can keep beating the shit out of Destoroyah but he just keeps re-forming. It was a bit crap that Destoroyah got killed by the freeze rays though.

my favorite is still the original '54 version

it's faster paced than all the others which makes it sound very relentless and has that weird dissonance or whatever that is in the background
>>

The message is about how we can't tame nature and end up destroying it.

Obviously it's not very deep, it's a special effects adventure movie. More iconic than sophisticated.

Like I said, I just liked the somber tone of the theme with the finality of the movie in general. Had so much weight to it. New movie also needed some decent music, but guess it could've been worse.

That being said, it's really weird having Godzilla in the new movie series being a 'Sacred Beast of Earth' compared to his original intentions back in the 50's.

Well you know on this note, Kojima said back in MGS2 that Snake was analogous to Godzilla, in that he was a man-made monster who's destiny is tied to nuclear weapons, and Raiden was King Kong because he was taken from his natural habitat
>>
>>286804160
Well actually, he does get his revenge by getting so stronk the melting-down Godzilla is enough to severely weaken Destoroyah, and passing on the rest of his power to his son so that he can finish him off.
>>
>>286803707
well it wasn't just the freeze rays that killed it, the intense heat given off by Godzilla caused thermal expansion or some shit and made him shatter and be unable to reform
>>
Crash Bandicoot? Those were pretty cool
>>
>>286803592
Considering it has Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah, chances are very high that it'll have a lot more fightan
>>
>>286804039
It's because one of the producers was a fan of the Showa movies so requested that Godzilla be a good guy and fight another monster. I think it's pretty similar in tone to the early colour movies, takes itself relatively seriously but has a very silly premise.

It reminded me of the 90s Gamera films actually. The main monster is the guardian of Earth. At first humans think he's a threat but realize he actually saved them from evil flying black monsters with angular heads.

Yep, that's why I loved the 'Savior of our City?' on the screens at the stadium at the ending.

It's just weird seeing Godzilla in this being as old as the planet itself. Though I wish the movie would've had more science shenanigans with Watanabe and Cranston, and followed more of the theme of the comic, but not much you can do there.

Edwards says that it's because he wanted it to work like that but I think it's actually more of a budget problem. The movie ran on a 160 mill budget which was actually 30 mill less than Pacific Rim. Regardless we get Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan so more time spent on monsters is inevitable.
>>
>>286808614

He wanted to do the Jaws approach for the first film since it has such an impact on the audience. Only issue is he wants to do it for the second film. Problem being that the whole world knows he exists now.

Less woken and more like dragged to the surface. It was a beacon to him, as he's been awake since the 40's. He stays as close as possible to the earths tasty inner bits to feed off the natural radiation from it, but that doesn't mean he was slumbering. Our nuclear advances made him realize he didn't have to go so far down to find his energy source, so there's no conflict between the two here. What point in the movie did they say he was dormant again?

exactly the same, they just wouldn't be able to brute force the film with computers and would instead need to be more creative from a directorial standpoint. 2014 is just a slew of 15-40 second CG scenes that cut away back to ground level, and as such it seems disjointed. I'm not saying all CG is bad, but you need a real prop in the movie to make the scene stick. this has been proven again and again but nobody wants to listen because it's not easy to make real world art look good. it's easier to make a computer generated image that looks "ehh it'll do, they'll buy it".
>>
>>286807351
I thought Godzilla moved a lot like a guy in a rubber suit, one of the reviews I read said the same. There was care taken for the most part, obviously he did some shit you could never do with a rubber suit.
>>
>>286809328
They say he retreated to the sea bed because of lack of radiation in the atmosphere. Then they say that the monsters woke because of the nuclear age increasing the levels of radioactivity.

So I guess it never directly contradicts him appearing earlier in history, but I don't think it makes sense for the theme of the movie that he woke anyway without nuclear weapons.
>>
>>286808787
I doubt he'd build up to Godzilla again

Pretty sure he's going to have more Godzilla but keep the antagonist under wraps. I also really hope he centers the movie on Serizawa

Well, it's two fold. The monsters he chases are also adversaries when it comes to the food chain. The one he fought in the comic basically needed to be stopped before it's growth was out of hand, much like the MUTO. Radiation is a big key to all of it, but not the only factor in Godzilla going to the surface. He still has a role in things.

>>286810237

I hope not, but we'll see after he's done making Rouge One for Star Wars. Too bad Godzilla 2 isn't till 2018.

I really just want this guy to show up at some point in the new series, just won't be in the first three.
>>
>>286810432
Meh, that doesn't make the comic canon. Shinomura isn't referenced in the film at all, or any other monster for that matter. In the movie Godzilla has no reason to appear earlier because the MUTOs weren't around.

Agree about Anguirus, he needs some goddamn love.

>Shinomura isn't referenced in the film at all, or any other monster for that matter

The only ones that knew about that were high ups at Monarch and several Governments around the world. It's crappy to say, but it wasn't relevant mainly due to the fact it was completely destroyed by the big guy, so recovering anything couldn't happen. They knew of the existence of other monsters asides the MUTO, but only one professor had any access to them, but who knows what happened to him in the Comic/Movie timeline.

Godzilla does have various reasons to surface besides the monsters especially the part with Daisuke's father after the bombing. Hell, the art depicted through time showed Godzilla basically lurking everywhere for some damn reason. Kind of funny he was shown in about every countries art, so there's more than likely several other factors to his wandering about. If he really is the Sacred Beast of our planet, then there's a lot more going on with him wandering about than we realize.

And I just hope they at least reference him in the future films.
>>
>not wanting Biollante above all else

She's perfect especially given Edwards' style. Make Biollante start off as a simple group of vines and stuff, then evolve into the rose form, then finally evolve into Biollante itself for the fight. Boom, no need to cut off action, just a natural saving of the final fight to the end.

I think making Godzilla himself millions of years old was really brilliant on Edwards' part and I hope Legendary doesn't squander that simple fact. This leaves so many cool stories they could do in supplementary material like comics or novels or whatever that it's exciting as fuck. Imagine a story in the 1920's done in the style of Lovecraft with Godzilla battling a not-Cthulhu kaiju, or even really going all out and having Lovecraft himself as a witness and the way his fevered mind interpreted the mind-numbing terror of what he was seeing ended up becoming his stories.
Or another story about viking sailing about and they witness Godzilla fighting a Manda-like creature and that's how they got the idea of Jormungand. The sort of shit you can do with Godzilla in this new series is endless. You could very easily make a video game based on this premise alone.

>not the bit where jessica or whatever her name is chains Carlos to a truck and drags him around until his face is ripped off so bad you have to mercy-kill him, then retaliate by locking her in the trunk of her car and watching while Maero unknowingly crushes her in a monster truck

Actually, now that I think about it, Saints Row 2 was fucking brutal.

That never happened in the movie.

Dammit, I was gonna say that. That shit threw me for a loop when I was younger, just watching it and not believing that shit could be the something that happens.

>Not only does it happen, but the super power of autistic beastiality/necrophilia/interspecies romance brings him back to life

I was talking about the part I quoted. The picture I linked was part of the teaser.

That's not Gigan.
Also, Mothra and Rodin are the best heroes.
I last saw a Godzilla film when I was about 10, and I actually completely forgot my love for the series (or that it even existed or that I watched it) until a few minutes ago, so forgive me for not knowing which movies are which or what some are called, but Mothra really shines in the one where Godzilla has to kill the three guardians and then fight aliens and smog and smash King Ghidorah and Mecha King Ghidora's faces in (Destroy all Monsters?) and Rodan really shines in... well... Rodan...
Also, I can't remember well, but wasn't Mechagodzilla made by humans to combat Godzilla, or was he an alien bot and Godzilla was protecting the people (the films have no continuity as far as I can rembmer)? If the former, then he's technically not a villain, but an anti-villain, which the Godzilla series is full of (usually, though, Godzilla's the anti-villain).

Also, I just remembered that Godzilla fighting game that I had for my GameCube.
Those were good times...

Gigan had a hard life.

>Used by space cockroaches with King Ghidorah
>Gets his ass kicked by Godzilla and Anguirus
>Sent to help Seatopia and fight along side Megalon
>Gets his ass kicked by Godzilla and Jet Jaguar
>Floats in space injured and is capture by other aliens
>Repaired and upgraded
>Sent to kill Zone Fighter
>Gets his ass kicked by Godzilla
>Gets killed by Zone Fighter
