Total War in space. I'm not talking about 4x games but a game where you start in your home planet, expand and fight out space battles similar to SOaSE and invade planets on a scale of Supreme Commander, all on a Distant Worlds scale galaxy.

I really want to see how good will it be when it comes out since HotS solved most of the problems that WoL had.

Red Alert 2 is fun. The like decade old Dune game was pretty true to the spirit of the book.Brood War probably the best.
In fact it was so good that Blizzard just kept copy pasting it's main storyline over and over again.

If it's a lower-scale RTS, make every part of the environment as interactable as if you were zoomed out and watching a bunch of FPS players move about, make it a physical location. You should be able to like, tell your tank to drive off a cliff and it will fall down, take damage, and then not be able to drive back up again. You should be able to walk under and on bridges, you should be able to make your troops climb up on rooftops, you should be able to drive a tank through a house and big monsters like ultralisks should move with heavy momentum and biological nimbleness as they barrel through footmen and flip tanks over. Basically, make RTS games take the step from 2.5D to 3D, there would be a shitload of cool stuff you could pull off with the model if you made it a sci-fi or fantasy game.

Battle Realms is just a "HD" repolish of the good old game, aka the same old game just with support for modern hardware and presumably steamworks multiplayer.
