So, Valve decided to make a 50 dollar HDMI cable.

To think PCucks will defend this.

Nice going mustards.

>50 dollar HDMI cable

pfft I could get one over a thousand

You can't honestly believe this is a bad thing.

Or comparable to an HDMI cable at all.
>>
>>285475916
I've been asking for this since forever.

I keep my desktop in my bedroom and I'd love to stream PC gaming to my living room TV and have controllers work.

Running an extra long HDMI cable through my apartment isn't a viable option. And it doesn't solve the issue of having a keyboard and controller too.

Looks a lot like my Vita TV.
>>
>>285475916
It's literally just the Playstation TV, but with Steam
>>
>>285476184
>there are people stupid enough to buy this
Kek, I wish I had thought of this con.
>>
>>285476972
It's a streaming device, not a small console.
>>
>>285475916
If it's work getting it over a whole new system I'll go with that but knowing how glitchy steam home streaming it might be shit.
>>
why would someone pay 50 bucks for this thing? streaming content to other TVs in your house seems like something with extremely little demand. and there are already other ways to do this.

why does this product exist?
>>
>>285475916
If HDMI cables also receive and transmit input devices to the device which they are connected to in another room, then, yeah, bang on chief.

Kinda like it, as the moment I have a less powerful rig in my lounge I use for steam streaming from my gaming PC upstairs, this would take up less space... But I also am able to use that lounge PC to access my movies and music on a NAS, so if this is purely a Steam Stream box, I'll pass.

inb4 PCuck defending, I also have every machine from this and the last console generation. Expect Wii-U, because fuck Nintendo.
>>
>>285476915
If you have a laptop, use steam in home streaming, If you have an android phone, look up kinoconsole.
You need either an mhl adaptor or a chromecast but it's do able
The only lag is the chromecast, and I played dying light like that decent enough
>>
>>285477336
because its cheap and has low latency, name another device that can do 1080p 60hz for this cheap
>>
I miss developer Valve.
>>
>>285477336
I don't like having to rely on some one else's laptop to do this and can't justify buying another pc to stream games

im not going to support valve for five seconds but it costs $10+ for only 3 ft of HDMI
just in case anyone took this guy seriously.
>>
>>285477110
so it has even less value than a PSTV
great, it is literally a wireless HDMI cable that you have to plug to the mains
>>
>>285477837
Drilling holes in my floor isn't viable
Also using my pc with a controller from a couch is terrible
Sure, using steam couch mode does the job, but then you're stuck with using wireless controllers/KBM and that depends on if it has decent enough range
>>
>>285477886
It has access to your entire PC library on Steam. It has way more to offer than PSTV.
>>
>>285476915
Dont buy this, get that 60 bucks USB dongle sized computer the gooks are making, it runs windows and its powerful enough to run fucking DaS2 on low settings, or HL2 on max settings, it will also stream from your main desktop because its a fucking computer, it will run steam and you can use the stream function of it
all for 10 bucks extra
>>
>>285477837

25 ft for under $10
or are you one of those dumbfucks that buys diamond-plated anti-virus HDMI cables

why? how?

Im interested.
>>

You try using a desktop from the other side of the room with a controller
>>
>>285478643
>>285478484

Or other floors.

Wireless controller also got shitted on by it.
>>
You guys are underestimating this thing. Setting up another PC to stream to your TV is clunky, and not an option for people with only one PC. This is lightweight and cheap.

I remember when I thought the chromecast was stupid because HDMI cables existed, but it really is easier than hooking up your laptop to watch Netflix, Youtube, etc. with friends
>>
>>285478241
>it runs windows and its powerful enough to run fucking DaS2 on low settings, or HL2 on max settings
What's the point?
The whole idea is that I use the PC I already have to play games
I'd only use it to stream, so why spend 10 extra dollars for an inferior option?
>>
>>285475916
kek I know good quality HDMI cables that are above 200 pops easily
>>
>>285475916
Can't I just hook my PC to my TV and call it a day? What's the point of this? Are they becoming OnLive or something?
>>

really?
>>
>>285478827

They're all the same lad

>>285478881
It's for people who don't have that option, i.e desktop is upstairs
>>
>>285478881

Yes. The point is allowing you to keep your PC somewhere else. That's it.
>>
>>285478881
You can. This is for people who don't only live in one room and want to be able to play their computer games on somewhere else besides their bedroom with their battlestation.

Roughly how much performance does streaming in your home cost? I don't have much experience with it
>>
>>285477336
depends what it can do.

I have a similarly priced roku. If it can do what it does + steam streaming it'd be worth it.
>>
>>285477559
Not him, but I have a chrome cast, I use it to stream movies/shows, and I think it's fucking terrible. It lags and has incredibly low FPS, and my computer is pretty good so it can't be that.

If the steambox can stream better than the chromecast then I will definitely be purchasing one.
>>
>>285478819
>complete media box that can and will play anything with any codec under the sun, run light games locally and over all better OS for a bit more is an inferior option
Holly shit valvedrones do exist
>>
>>285479340

Do they sell it outside of gook country?
How about the warranty?
How much the shipping cost?
>>
>>285479373
Absolutely none
If you have an Android phone you can stream to that

>>285479490
I also have a chromecast and it works perfectly
>I use it to stream movies/shows
Over the internet?
A chromecast does the downloading itself, not streaming from a host PC
>>
>>285479574
http://www.amazon.com/MeeGoPad-T01-Microsoft-Windows-Stick/dp/B00RVCGNEC

I don't know why that anon is saying its a better option when its more than twice the price and all of its extra features are irrelevant if all you want to do is stream games
>>
>>285479562
>complete media box that can and will play anything with any codec under the sun, run light games locally and over all better OS

My PC already does this

>run light games locally
What is the point?
The whole idea is that I can play my games at full settings and with a good fps on my TV
>>
>>285476915
>Running an extra long HDMI cable through my apartment isn't a viable option.
>but a network cable is

Alright, then.
>>
>being angry about a cheap streaming device

>>
>>285479647
>Absolutely none

Really? So you could expect to do the same settings at the same FPS as if you were playing on the native PC? I would have expected it to take a slight hit at least.
>>
>>285479808
>my PC already does this
then just lug you 3k dollarydoos tower to your living room then
>>

>To see how well Bay Trail plays games, we loaded “Torchlight II,” an action role playing game, on both the reference slate and an ASUS tablet with Clover Trail. At 1366 x 768 resolution, the Clover Trail tablet provided a jerky, unplayable 10 frames per second, a rate which dropped down even lower when we got into a battle

It's also useless at playing games, one of the advantages anon was saying it had

>>285479869
> And it doesn't solve the issue of having a keyboard and controller too.
>>
>>285478154
is it just your steam library? Because on pstv you can do that, play vita games obviously, watch videos, listen to music and browse the internet.
>>
>>285477559
>You need either an mhl adaptor or a chromecast but it's do able

Confirmed for shit-tier option.
>>
>>285476626
How is it not?

It is literally just a wireless HDMI cable.
>>
>>285480108
Something that can do only one thing does have less value than something that can do more than one thing
By being a small console with the streaming capabilities, the PSTV (or even any other small console that can stream from something else) does have more value than just a streaming box
>>
>>285480040
> So you could expect to do the same settings at the same FPS
Yeah, with a decent router (mines a free one from my ISP) the latency is irrelevant, there's plenty of bandwidth

>>285480163
Exactly, playing it on your phone with a controller works surprisingly well though
>>
Ive seen worse.
>>
If I can install XBMC on this, or use it to stream videos from my PC this will be perfect.
>>
>still no way to do it with pirated games

ill stick to local gaming thanks
>>
>>285479869
Also you are limited in length on hdmi cables.
>300' cat5 max
>40'-50' hdmi max
>>
>>285480292
Because it also routes the player input and brings up a TV oriented interface that (importantly) doesn't interfere with the host pc

>>285480487
In home streaming works with pirated games
>>
IF YOU GOT A LAPTOP YOU DONT NEED THIS SHIT.

BUT IF YOU DONT YOU GOT AN OPTION, HOW DUMB ARE YOU PEOPLE CAN BE?

HOLY SHIT! I'M MAD!
>>
So could I plug a controller into one of the USB ports or does it have to be hooked up to the PC that's running the game?
>>
>>285480292
*wired

Eithernet hard connections make SihS much more enjoyable than wifi. However, wifi does work well, considering.

don't forget usb cables, but i dont know how long those segments can be
>>
>>285477559

depends A LOT of your phone, some phones have micro HDMI outs, same goes for tablets
A bit of research will save you 20 bucks
>>
>>285476915
>Looks a lot like my Vita TV.
It's the PlayStation TV with better port placement. Having the HDMI cable in the center was absolutely retarded. That said, at least the PlayStation TV came with decent length cables.
>>
>>285480610
Currently controllers and shit plug into the client pc, so I'd assume that's what they are for, yes

The same way it works with other games

You turn on the steam link, and then select the program from yer steam library that you want to play

Heck you could "play" Microsoft paint on your tv if you want, if you add it to your steam library

You dont need verification to run steam.

If I wanted shitty graphics I'd just play my console.

This would be a great way to play emulated PS2/PSP games on the living room TV while also taking advantage of high resolution and texture filtering from an emulator on PC .
