Why do you guys hate this game so much?
I have a bias because I played it as a kid
>>
only retards and the neo /v/irgins hate it because it has no weeb pedo shit in it.
>>
We dont are you retarded?

Nobody hates it, it's just that 2 was better
>>

This pic has more people in it than Rivet City.
>>
Every time I play it I get bored with the gameplay.

But I'm a casual faggot so don't listen to me. I've been here for like a year
>>
>>285045458
That ain't true nig, both has their merits. F1 got much better atmosphere and story than 2, which in turn got superior gameplay and exploration. I love them both.
>>
>>285045458
I don't agree, the setting was brutally raped in 2.

Both are fantastic though.
>>
>>285045458
I couldn't get into 2, tribal theme threw me off. Also the start is dark souls tier difficult with poor character stats.
>>

I've played it for the first time when i was 8 and didn't understood a word in english and with shittiest char imaginable. Fucking temple gave me no problems. What is wrong with you?
>>
>>285045865
I had a terrible time on the temple, I have no idea why, it was a while ago. I had a stealth character. The scorpions or whatever were doing work.
>>
>>285046068
You didn't had to fight a single scorp tho. Only unavoidable fight is like 2 or 3 ants man. I usually run through when i replay the game now.

This.
I felt the same about other Bethesda games.
I've played Morrowind on my Xbox and it was the best thing ever, but then I've got x360 and Oblivion and god damn, it blew me up I felt that Morrowind is fucking dogshit in comparsion, but I don't understand why I liked it so much after I've played Skyrim.

We live in great times where games are improving from release to release so much that they render their predecessors unplayable

It was empty, pretty much no sidequests an no interesting locations.

FO2 came out a year later and blows it out of the water. Better locations, more quests, more characters, more everything.

It's like comparing FO3 to NV.
Only retards like FO3 and FO1.

I played 1 and 2 a week before FO3 came out and loved them both. Also loved 3, they're all great games.

I literally just quit Fallout 2 after the 10th time of trying to get into it.

>Random encounters every 2 steps

>Combat is slow and tedious as shit, wait 2 years for a pack of rats to move 3 meters.
>It's so fucking slow, I feel like I'm wasting my time playing it, the simple act of using an item is tedious as shit. Click this click that.

Fallout 3 is no perfect game, but at least it didn't take an hour just to blink my eyes.

Is this some kind of reverse psychology trolling? Only problem with FO1 that no other Fallout has is that it's really short. It has the best writing, atmosphere and game system of the four.
>>
>>285047016
>Random encounters every 2 steps
Get outdoorsman if that bothers you
>Ridiculous RNG, some guy crits and deals enough damage to kill you 3 times over.
Snipe them before they get to you then
>Combat is slow and tedious as shit, wait 2 years for a pack of rats to move 3 meters.
Check "combat speed" in options maybe?
>It's so fucking slow, I feel like I'm wasting my time playing it, the simple act of using an item is tedious as shit. Click this click that.

No offense but it seems you are a fucking casual that simply need to git gut.
>>
>>285047016
I give you that the combat is a bit slow even when the combat speed is maxed, but the rest is just your fault for not putting points to luck. The SPECIAL stats are REALLY important in Fallout 1 and 2, the downside being that it's pretty easy to make a bad character and some characters simply have easier time than others.
>>
>>285047169
>Fallout 1
>best game system
Yeah, nah. Apart from making Quick Pockets broken as shit, Fallout 2 is downright superior in pretty much everything. You don't have to waste a fucking perk slot to distinguish friends from foes in combat, the inventory system is less retarded, the follower system is leagues better, etc.

But yeah, the writing and atmosphere in 1 are just fucking amazing and make the little annoyances matter far less
>>

I really don't get it. I've tried half a dozen times but I simply cannot get into the game.

Also I'm assuming that a lot of controls and shit that aren't explained are in the manual? Because god damn I felt like a retard taking forever to kill that first mole rat.
>>
>>285046492
Quality > Quantity
Fallout 2 has much more content, but a higher percentage of that is boring sidequests and unmemorable locations. Only a few are better than the locations and quests of Fallout 1. The writing in FO1 is also generally a step up from that in FO2, especially when it comes to dialogue.
>>
>>285047847
There's not really much to get, but building your character properly helps a ton. But the combat is always pretty slow at the beginning in Fallout and usually starts to get fun once you get your hands on the first burst weapons or other decent equipment. Especially in 2, at least in 1 you start with a gun.

Also the economy in FO2 is somehow even more broken than in FO1
>around level 10 or so, still toting around shit like scoped hunting rifles
>come across a random encounter
>it's the Vault City patrol vs. a gang of raiders
>hang back and watch them duke it out
>go loot the remains
>mfw ending up with enough guns to equip an army, worth around $50K
>from a single fucking encounter
>>
>>285048690
I watched a guy doing a blind play-through FO1 and he got a random encounter where he just found 8700 bottle caps on his very first trip out of the Vault. There wasn't even a fight, just a turned over truck and bag on the ground with a dollar sign on it.
>>
>>285049215
lucky him

that encounter certainly was random (modified by his outdoorsman and luck skills)
>>
>>285049215
I'm pretty sure you actually loot the bottle caps out of the nukacola truck instead of a bag.
It would be rather silly to have bottlecaps in a bag with a dollar sign on it.

>Find discarded money in real life

>>
>>285045313

>>
>>285049215
That's the rare special encounter that only happens if you have extremely high LK, and you can only see it once. And it isn't even the best one, the car mart encounter nets you the invaluable and amazingly overpowered BB gun.

The Vault City one is just a regular encounter, you can come across it multiple times if you're lucky, always bringing home so much loot that you have to actually pick and choose since you can't carry it all
>>
>>285048690
I remember starting FO2, getting out of the tribe, and going to San Francisco directly, getting the Vertibird mission from the Brotherhood, kick the watchman ass, get inside and stock myself to endure anything the wastes have to throw at me.

Good times.
>>

I haven't watched a let's play since.

>>
Fallout 1 is way too short

It's also not fun the first time playing because of the time limit and similar mechanics

Water chip doesn't take long at all and you can pay those water merchants too, I believe.

Which makes the games more varied and interesting.
Since others are under the same dice roll rules and since you do so many dice rolls it still remains completely fair.

I think they removed the big time limit in a patch.

They're also a mod that does the opposite and brings back the cut mechanic of super mutants slowly conquering towns which I have yet to try.

Did you even watch the video? Or other videos where he does the same thing (how good he is varies from character to character for obvious reasons)? Also, I'm NOT going to read tiny on-screen text in a freakin' video where I can't even click the questions or decide when I'm done reading. Salvatores in New Reno will get you a Laser Pistol. If I could remember where to find other laser/plasma weapons, I'd tell you, but the only one I can think of off hand was from Fallout 1. It's viablo to focus in energy weapons, you just need something else to fall back on in the mean time, like melee or unarmed. If you are science oriented character, I would hope you have a high INT, so skill points wont matter at all for you.

Can't rely on that shit happening at all, let alone one specific encounter out of half a dozen super rare encounters. Salvatores is the easiest and earliest bet.
>>
Fallout 1:
>Trading 200 caps one at a time
>Ian shoots you for 30 damage
>followers stand in doorway
>Followers won't give items back without you paying
>No clear progression of areas, allowing you to wander to your certain death without knowing
>Fewer items, fewer followers, fewer perks, fewer quests, etc
>Time limit

Fallout 2:
>More humor, less serious
>Tribals
>BoS becomes shit
>Weird (exploitable) item progression
>Lots of obvious broken and incomplete content, feels rushed.
>>
>>285061839
Ideally, you will also want to do the Wright quests first and unlock the Sierra Army Depot before finishing quests for Salvatores to get the Laser Pistol, as the Wrights are the best family (for the aforementioned location unlock - this requires some detective work), but will immediately be hostile when finishing the quests for Salvatore to get the pistol.
>>
>>285049907

>>
>>285064627
>Trading 200 caps one at a time
It's 999 each time, which is a pain, but not a problem. Use number pad to count out 999 every trade.
>Ian shoots you for 30 damage
Companions aren't required, and all of them suck.
>followers stand in doorway
^^^
>Followers won't give items back without you paying
^^^
>No clear progression of areas, allowing you to wander to your certain death without knowing
Negative. Shady Sands tells you about Junktown, they tell you about the Hub, which is the only location that matters, as you can get a ride to the one location that solves the quest.
>Fewer items, fewer followers, fewer perks, fewer quests, etc
This some nitpicky shit about the first game in the series, bro.
>Time limit
The only real problem with the game, but it creates a sense of urgency where real problems have real consequences.
>Oldest items are at the top of your inventory
nitpicky shit
>No car
Who fucking cares. The map isn't even that big.
>>
>>285064627
>feels rushed.
Really? I'm still in the middle of finished Fallout 2, but Fallout 1 was pretty bad in this regard. A lot of quests can become glitched if you do certain things and some quests aren't even fully implemented.
>>
>>285065237
If you look at the code or do certain things, Fallout 2 is very broken. For instance, it is impossible to get a good ending for Gecko because of a broken flag. There are even endings for the Hubologists in the code that can't be accessed without mods. There's tons of items that don't do anything because their associated quest never got finished.
>>
>>285065456
Anyone playing these games without the unofficial patch is a fucking idiot, plain and simple. It's old, we get it, it has problems, we get it, now play the game it was meant to be played by downloading the fan made patches that fix -everything-.
>>
>>285065456
I think there was a similar problem in Fallout 1 with the Hub ending. It's impossible to get the good ending because of a misplaced piece of code or something. I guess both games have some issues which is a shame because they're both really fun. Can't imagine how much better they would be in a complete form.

Not saying fo1 isn't a great game with its grimdark atmosphere, but it's way too linear for a fallout game. Must be some slow ass people using the site.

Underrated post

>>285069371
Even if you're a completionist it's still took about 10 - 15 hours. How the fuck did they got 30 hours without multiple playthrough is beyond me.

>How is it linear, anyway?
well, the timer helps to force you to focus on the main quest, if you're new to the game anyways. There's just way less to explore in fo1 that it feels linear in comparison to fo2

I was doing a playthrough of Fallout 1 and got the alien blaster random encounter an hour in. Even with 30% energy weapons I just bulldozed past any enemies
>>
>>285069754
It isn't linear, it's just been cut to shit. There are like 5 marked side quests in the entire game and only 1 is in the hub and there are none in LA
>>
I would enjoy Fallout 2 if only the gameplay wasn't completely unbalanced.
AGI and INT are ridiculously overpowered compared to the other stats, STR mostly useless beyond 5 or so because of how easy it is to pump it through armor/implants and the fact it only raises potential damage instead of base damage, lel Gifted, guns are far better than melee/unarmed for the majority of the game, random encounters are far harder than story missions and dungeons, heavy guns and energy weapons take forever to get if you follow the story normally, heavy reliance on criticals & Better Criticals perk for most builds if you don't to take forever killing enemies unless you have Fast Shot,a single enemy crit with the right weapon can fuck you up easily even during late game from far away, and that's just to name a few.
And then there's the fact the entire game plays as if you had the Wild Wasteland trait from NV as others mentioned.
>>
>beat FO1 3 times
>reading the wiki just to see what repair works on
>find out there is a thieves guild and quests related to it

Did anyone else miss this shit on their playthroughs?
>>
>>285070668

Str is mainly useless beyond 5 because power armour raises it by +4 and you get +1 from a chip (and can also get +1 from a trait if you want).

Power armour should have had +2 str, +2 end or +2 str, +2 per or something.

No. IIRC, there's multiple NPCs that either point you to it or imply it exists.

Why have no final bosses or encounters in the fallout series ever topped The Master?
>>
>>285071473

Because Fallout's writing has never been as good.
>>
>>285071473
To me, everything involves Mr. House is better than The Master. My problem with Master is he's so naive that he thinks his plan is gonna work, part of it because he never examined his own army. Maybe because of its ego.
>>
>>285071473
I think Frank Horrigan was pretty good, you see him in these recordings or encounters just fucking shit up, then finally you get a chance to battle him. Fallout 3 tried some weird Dick Richardson Master combo with Eden, and then that awful purifier shit which was just terrible. The dam battle could have been great, but I think consoles fucked that chance up, along with gamebyro being terrible.
>>
>>285071731
Fallout 3 is basically Bethesda attempted to remake FO1 but it's so horrible because they just can't write shit.

Also because they never played Fo2
>>
>>285071885
>Also because they never played Fo2
But Harold is a tree in Fallout 3, clearly that brilliant piece of inspiration was taken from Fallout 2 so somebody must've played it.
>>
>>285071731
Eden is such a forgettable and shit-tier villain.

House > The Master > Horrigan > Eden

House isn't really a villain, but he does kinda have the same role as the other three.
>>
>>285071885
It's amazing how much they just stole from the earlier games because they didn't have enough creativity to finish a game. The fact that it's on the east coast has it make even less sense; suddenly all these west coast factions and characters are just magically on the east coast because why not.
>>
its my favorite fallout.
I like it more than 2 because it defined the setting, laid down the basics. and 2 had too much whacky stuff for me, like talking deathclaws.
maybe 2 has more content, but I still enjoy it less.
>>
>>285072028
Please mayne, don't remind me of that shit
>>
Fallout 2 had too many references and shit, at least 1 was minimal with them.

I've watched 80% of a Fallout 1 Let's Play. It seems pretty boring.

Unfortunately everyone already left the thread to reply your b8, so here's mine
>>
>>285045313
because most people here werent even born when it came out
the first time they heard about fallout was when 3/NV came out
>>
>>285072040
I'm actually kinda thankful for that now because it didn't fuck with west coast lore at all
>>
>>285074086
Except Harold
>>
>>285074041
>fallout 1 is 18 years old
>>
>>285074017
I'm not even sure how this can be b8. I really liked 3 and NV so I decided to look into the previous games. Nothing I've seen has made me want to play the game. I just want to learn the backstory. I'll just knock out a couple videos on youtube when I'm bored and feeling lazy.

>>285045458
>it's just that 2 was better
2 was literally memeland before memelands was even a thing.
>>
>>285074282
Except 2 had some decent writers that can make some decent jokes and not Burch

''Fallout started with 3''
>Why would you think that?
''There are 3 factions - This is why its Fallout 3''
>What about those old games?
''Look like shit and not like Fallout''
>>
>>285045458
Holy fucking shit, you did not just compare Chris Avellone to Anthony fucking Burch.
