It fills that weird niche by having longsword properties and moves with a good poke and decent scaling.

Demon axe. I have every variation. Tried to run with the stone axe but it wasn't as good. Demon axe smashes the ever loving fuck out of anyones defense. Seeing someone in giants and that slowly walking towards you while playfully smashing your shield away was brilliant fun.

Katanas are fast and are powerful dex weapons but I wouldn't consider them overpowered. Try using a buff with them when you get the chance. They work wonderfully with those.

Just different ways to upgrade them friend with their own benefits and weaknesses. They usually let you know what they'll do to your weapon when you get the chance to upgrade them. You'll need to find the proper emberand blacksmithto upgrade certain paths though.

To be fair, although powerful, most BK weapons had useless movess as their strong atacks. Having to use jump atacks instead of simply use strong atacks was kinda annoying at times.
But anyway, I always found cool how really 90% of the weapons in both games were perfectly viable regardless of some being clearly superior to others.
Worrying too much about the nitty gritty stuff could be a fun killer.

I love Dark Souls because it actually puts a gut-wrenching fear in you just using gameplay mechanics. And it's so weird since the only thing you have to lose is 'souls', and no one with a brain goes into a boss fight with lots of souls. I love Ricard's Rapier but it's so fucking OP I don't have any fun using it. Even without buffing or putting any serious worth in upgrading, it just magically turns bosses into fine smears across the ground.
I am very fond of the Avelyn, the Abyss Greatsword (dat R2 flip gaddamn!), Priscilla's Dagger and the utility of the two Tracers.
Also Bandit's Knife. Thief starts with an amazing weapon AND the best gift as a freebie. It really makes a huge difference for people starting out.
