Im just going to say it, I think offline ranged is one of the hardest things you can do in MH, and against some monsters you have to be either patient as fuck or a god to be able to win.
Its not that they are bad in any way, its just the way MH is set up makes it very difficult to stay alive as a ranged character if you dont have a few meatshields (i.e. other players) for you.
Personally I lance offline and HBG online, just to save time.

Not completely true, before the price and memory card announcement the Vita seemed solid. But even before the let down Capcom had moved to the 3DS because Nintendo was already distributing SDKs for the next gen of handhelds when they were finishing P3rd.

I was using a destruction gunlance and was poking and shelling, full bursting, wyvern firing it all I could. I broke both claws and his tail. For some reason his head wouldn't give me an arrow. I guess I have to break his head first. I did still mess up by getting hit the meteors, needing to recover/sharpen sometimes and taking too damn long for his tail. But fuck that is leaving me salty.

Charge Blade isn't even that bad. Just treat them like hammers, they should be mostly unloading on the head anyway. Now Long Swords. Fuck Long Swords. You can use them online if you know what you're doing, but if you're staggering people just fuck right off. I farmed Gold Rathian with two LS users, when I was using the Insect Glaive. Once you enter HR you can find Palicos with the Launcher forte. They exist to be a springboard so you can get mounts or just attack shit that's in the air when there isn't a ledge nearby.

/v/ jokes a lot about 'hit the monster dont get hit' but the sad fact is most people think the hit the monster part is more important than the dont get hit part and spend all of LR/HR just running to a monster, unloading on it, getting hit, then running back in, once they get to dala they get rekt by its 1 shot.
I cant imagine the pain they have to endure in G rank where everything 1 shots.

i think it's 4U's implementation of the stick that's shitty. it's capable of a full 360 degrees but MH only uses 4 directions and not analog. they essentially just made it function as a dpad.

For HBG you want Normal or Pierce S up depending on the what the gun specializes in. Precision is nice if you can get it, and Recoil+ especially if the gun is centered around Pierce S. You won't be focusing too much on elemental or status shots with the HBG, but don't neglect to use the status shots you have available. As someone said before Evade Distance Up is very useful because you are typically caught in a reload or long firing time.

To corroborate the n3DS guy's claim, I have a normal 3DS and a n3DS and I can say for a fact that the 3D on the n3DS is better. On the 3DS I can barely stand to have it on for a minute or two since it hurts to look at and even on its lowest setting there's still double images and looking at UI elements and the action parts of the screen hurt.
On the n3DS I can have the 3D set to about medium and be perfectly comfortable. I actually prefer it to having it off most of the time and I am pretty sure it's because of the face tracking.You sound like a HUGE faggot when you say 'Nobody likes the n3DS 3D, I didn't like it' and then when someone chimes up and says they do, you just say 'Well only YOU liked it so I'm still right'

You can easily aim it to cover 1/3rd or less of the monster. I was using my IG vault more to get as far away from the LS users as I could than anything, it still didn't help. There were times where after the mount I'd be unable to even get in two hits, let alone a combo. To top it off one was using a Dragon LS and the other an unawakened (paralyze) LS. Against Gold Rathian.

Like the other anon said, check to see if your inventory is full, or if you already have pickaxes in your inventory. You can only carry 5 of each kind of pickaxe at any one time. If you already have 5 of a particular kind it won't let you buy more unless you choose the 'Buy and Send to Box' option when you first talk to the trader.

Poison's pretty good now, since you can start building up to a second poisoning while the first is still active.

Dragon is the go to element if its a weakness. Otherwise I consider poison to be an all around excellent solo element for SnS this time around because the poison line has a very high raw and the constant application of poison boosts its times. Highly recommend going for the Poison Battleaxe line for offline, and a Paralyze line for online.

Most of the swings arc out for ever in front of you on both sides. You can aim it so you're mostly hitting with the side swings / centered. You don't need to fact the monsters center. With Rathian you can position yourself off to the side of her head, and aim out towards the tail. You'll hit the feet with every swing without touching anyone near the head, other side of the feet, or the majority of the tail. When she's tripped you can just rip on the wing. It's not hard.
