Now that it's out, what do you all think of this game? It's actually a bretty gud remaster, if not, the best
>>284735965
Graphics are great, as are the UI, cleaned up soundtrack, animatics etc.
But. This comes at a price. HW1 SP campaign is completely butchered. All atmosphere and mechanics that made HW1 great are gone. Support frigs are useless. TUR Atk Carrier on Mission 4 just sits there instead of going after mothership. Salvage 'Vettes can outrun scouts and salvage strikecraft. Taiidan in M05 was the most anti-climax battle I ever fought yet. TAI carrier just sits there instead of going its famous 'let's ram into that banana ship' charge. etc.
Still a good remaster, but mainly for HW2. HW1 is completely killed.
>>284735965
>queerbox
no, even if it's pure gaming gold, no.
>>284736770
Doesn't the remaster also come with the original versions of the two games? You could just use the original to play 1 with and use the remaster to play 2.

>Individual ship comm sounds when you zoom in
>Faithful recreations of the ships and atmosphere
>Multiplayer, mods
Cons
>Dated mechanics, some things like fuel trimmed out
>Campaign feels like a chore
>Updated UI is somehow more obstructive
>Radar map fucks with some of the celestial objects making later missions literally impossible to accomplish
7/10 it's alright.
>>284737702
I've had 1 and 2 in the years they came out.
Doesn't take away from the fact that I was hoping to see a well-done remaster of the HW1 campaign.
But yes, I'm indeed sticking to classic for HW1 campaign.

>>Updated UI is somehow more obstructive
jesus
did you even play Homeworld 1? If you think HW2 UI is more obstructive than HW1, you need to go replay it.
Buggy as hell.
Shitcode required for multiplayer.
Cannot capture mission 3 frigates.
I don't even know what homeworld is.
Sell me on this. For context, I bought an xbone for MCC, so I have no issue paying money to play old games.

Some users with AMD Radeon graphics cards have reported a black screen and then a crash to desktop when running any of the games in the Homeworld Remastered Collection. If you are experiencing this issue, uninstall all AMD software and drivers from your PC and reinstall the newest set of drivers from http://support.amd.com/en-us/download. This has been reported to fix the issue.
If you've tried this and are still experiencing the issue, please submit a support ticket at support.gearboxsoftware.com.

Fully 3D space RTS. You can flank from above and below as well as on the celestial plane. You build ships, harvest asteroids and debris, and blow shit up.
There's lot of new pretty lights and shit with the update, but it came at the cost of a fucked campaign in the remaster of HW1, apparently.
I'm still waiting on Amazon to confirm my order, take my shekels and send me my fucking mothership before I'll play.

>>284743972
try it then.
FYI: the remastered game is not the one you are looking for if you are a HW1 purist. The game you are looking for is the original HW included in the package.
Its basically HW1 ported to the HW2 engine with the lovely UI and broken fleet formation tactics.
That said, if you liked HW2, the RM version of the Homeworld Wars is great, I will warn you that there are a lot of audio bugs, ships did get rebalanced (hard limit on salvage corvettes T_T) and some missions have be retooled to work a certain way (gardens of kadesh mission reintroduced fuel).
I would only recommend if you either lost your original homeworld disks or if you're not too asspained about HW2 after 10 fucking years. Don't bother with multiplayer until complex 10 comes out. I would also recommend piracy if you really dont like Gearbox.
What do people have against Gearbox? I don't follow news.

Anon, I was in the same boat as you, so I made this just yesterday.
>>284736882
That's a bit arrogant, Anon. Gearbox isn't one person.
>>284744853
That's pretty cool, but I was imagining some actual screenshots of the game as wallpapers. Having those beautiful backgrounds as wallpaper must be nice.
>>284745206
When I get my hands on the game, I'll make some more.
Homeworld might actually have the best controls of any RTS ever.
>>284744780
I dont see a problem with that. It might also be cheaper as well assuming there will be a sale. But you wont be dissapointed if you get it anyways unlike HW1 diehards. Like I said, there's nothing preventing you from pirating this because multiplayer is pretty ass right now. Most agree( unless you're a purist) that the RM campaigns for HW1 and HW2 are pretty great and that alone is worth playing at least (if not paying Pitchford for it).
On modding support, tools will be comming soon(tm) but of the still-active HW2 mods have already been uploaded to steam workshop so the only real advantage of buying the RM version, over pirating the original is that you wont need to run through hoops to get HW2 working properly and modded.
>>284742648
>Fully 3D space RTS. You can flank from above and below as well as on the celestial plane.
Interesting. I'm not a fan of RTS games at all but that sounds REALLY fascinating and also like a pain in the ass to control.
Will I get rekt if I'm not too into RTS games?
Anyone else having campaign crashes if HW1R?

The campaign for classic HW1 will force you to git gud. People generally get absolutely fucking wrecked in the 7th mission, and will get absolutely fucking wrecked in the 9th mission as well.

Just finished the HW1 campaign. Pretty good but it felt easier, but that just might be because i've played through this campaign 2-3 times before.
I encountered few bugs but it was not too bad.
For some reason in the final mission the rebel reinforcements did not appear, but that might be because i somehow made it through that mission without any damage on the mothership.

I want Ion beams to come out of every fucking corner of my ships. They promised that you could do that at the last PAX panel.
What is the gameplay like?
Is it heavy on micromanagement and shit, or is it more like Sins of a Solar Empire where you can kind of just generally let your ships go where you want them to and they blow shit up?
>>284746934
Don't forget Borderlands, all of them.
>>284736770
Just played through HW remastered campaign, everything you said didn't happen DID happen for me. And why are supports useless? Fuel was only removed for multiplayer not singleplayer.
>>284735965
Runs perfectly for me (win7, high end pc) and is an thoroughly well done remake of the original, which comes very close. Overall, an excellent product.
It's a very, very good looking mod for Homeworld 2. If you're a HW1 purist like me you'll be screaming at all the things the engine port broke, but they tried, they really tried.
And they packaged the original version, which is fine.
And most of all, it'll extend the lifetime of the HW2 engine and maybe keep up and improve mod support.
>HW1 Fighter formations in HW2 engine

>>284744334
Theres always been a cap on corvettes and fuel is present the entire campaign
>>284749712
>fuel is present the entire campaign
Nope
Fighters had a small blue/purple fuel bar beneath their health, that's gone now
>>284748875
Hes full of shit, they still repair and refuel.
>>284749802
i just checked again, scouts, bombers and interceptors still have the purple fuel bars under them you just need to zoom in for it to appear.
>>284748875
They repair, but they have to latch on to ships like HW2 resourcers. Strike craft can dock with them for a quick repair. Fuel is no longer in the game so that function is gone.
Hypering support frigates with strike craft attached also no longer works, I think.
>>284750049
Been playing for 5 hours straight, the only bar underneath health indicator was with Scouts, and that's their "gottagofast" ability
>>284749881
The S. Frigates repair, but they stick themselves to the allied ships hull like the repairers in HW2
Well, the whole game was made in the HW2 engine, so that'll explain the problems
>>284748875
They repair strikecraft and corvettes only.
There's no fuel, so strikecraft don't go to refuel at the support frigates. Since they don't go to get fuel, they also don't get repaired at the same time.
Which means instead of strikecraft ferrying constantly to and from your support frigates, they get in a furball and die.
This has made support frigates completely useless. They don't repair big ships, and the strikecraft don't fly to them to get repaired automatically.
That's just the tip of the iceberg - all of homeworld 1's gameplay mechanics are missing. They literally dumped Homeworld 1 assets (meshes, new textures) into Homeworld 2 and called it a day.
That's not a fucking 'remastering'. Any fucking mod could've done it - AND DID. There are already Homeworld 1 mods for Homeworld 2!
What a fucking crock of shit. It's a remastering of Homeworld 2, forget anything about the first game. They fucked it up royally.
>>284749253
Heavy on micro if you don't want all your ships to get blown up. You'll want to be watching the battles anyway as they're fucking beautiful.
Its not bad. I don't enjoy it as much as I used to, age did that. some shit is borked, mostly formations and the new ui is a bit awkward, but they are nice games.
I hope Complex gets ported to it.
>>284749523
Homeworld 2 formations have been a huge issue since the game came out.
People have spent ages trying to fix them and never could get them right.
Hiring the complex mod guy on was a mistake, the guy's clearly a retard whose focus was on big explosions and pretty graphics, and how much more biggerer ships he could fit into the game, than actual serious gameplay mechanics that modders have wanted forever.
So this purple bar that goes down and gets refilled with docking isn't fuel now?
>>284750552
It's their special ability bar.
>>284750301
Maybe you should tell your fighters to dock for repairs instead of being a negligent commander-parent.
well, if you played a HW1 race against a HW2 race in multiplayer, the HW1 race having 'fuel' would be awful against the HW2 race that doesn't have fuel.
>>284735965

This is something that should've been automated.
>>284751137
>>284751180

>>284750873
The solution would've been "oh well".
Or giving Homeworld 2 ships fuel requirements and their own support frigates.
The problem is that instead of adding a feature that gave more strategy/tactics, they removed it out of laziness.
Fucking gearbox
>>284750301
>They repair strikecraft and corvettes only.
Bullshit. You people really need to stopm spreading bullshit.
The campaign isn't "butchered". It does a few things different and I noticed a few bugs (like skipping half of the Bentusi dialogue in Mission 4, what the hell gearbox) but the core is exactly the same.
>>284751129
I'm sorry I couldn't hear you, can you take gearbox's cock out of your mouth first?
>>284751350

>>284752024
But the CORE is the same, man. Gearbox managed to not completely fuck up the CORE when they ported it to the Homeworld 2 engine. I mean "remastered" it.
They removed the Battleball, right?...right?
>>284752243
well it feels like they mudered sphere formation in general.
>>284752024
wait cant you just ctrl+hotkey repair the strike craft ball for the same exact effect?
There's a few nasty mechanics changes (see the strike craft not auto-returning because of fuel removal) and a number of bugs (turanic carrier in mission 2 wouldn't jump out for ages)
Formations are still useful for deflecting the damage during the initial attack run, but in general strike craft need a lot more hand-holding. if you want them not to furball, you have to manually order them to disengage, reform, and attack again. Also, the kadeshi beam frigates don't do that fucking deathblossom spin that absolutely murdered strike craft.
It's still a pretty fun game, even if it doesn't have all the really cool little things that the original had.
so if you played as a HW1 race you could build fighters individually, while if you played as a HW2 race fighters come out in wings of 5?
how does that work in multiplayer
>>284752524
HW1 races build ships at a faster rate and for cheaper.

Now: The AI ignores them (because it's HW2 AI, not HW1) and they move fast as fuck and can catch anything easily and safely.
This 'remaster' is a fucking joke.
>>284755296
You're in a Homeworld thread son.
>>284755553
Sorry, you can't anymore.
HW2 "bugfix"
>engine problems
>cant be fixed
You haven't played Oblivion with mods.
I also dont think the stuff you're bitching about are engine problems, they're mostly scripting and agent behavior stuff that was changed with the design choice to use squadrons; they literally made formations "obsolete". When people bitch about engine stuff they're usually complaining about optimization and graphical glitches, not gameplay nuances.
I will give you that RM has a TON of bugs and poorly running scripts that were shoehorned in to the HW1 campaign and races. Yet, we were promised that we can "make ion beams come from places where they weren't supposed to". We'll have to see what you autistic will come up with when mod tools are out.
>>284754927
If they could have added Homeworld Cataclysm, i would be asking for a R-Type mod.
>>284755565
They will fix that issue. Assuming they put effort into the MP balance. I want to know how the fuck they missed all the broken shit.
>no more collisions
wow, what the fuck
>>284755259
Corvettes are still fine you nigger. The "turret being nerfed" thing is a consequence of the % system from HW2. It doesn't matter much when the enemy is also using the same system.
Wait
so this "remaster" is just using the homeworld 2 engine with prettier graphics?
>>284754927
Go look up Mass Effect Reborn
>>284755553
HW1 had difficulty scaling, anon. If you salvaged all of those ships of course you faced a huge fleet.
>>284755565
It's pretty funny that people are bitching up a storm that salvage corvettes are both underpowered and overpowered, at the same time, in the same thread.
Can anyone else connect to the multiplayer? Its just forever stuck on connecting to shift for me
>>284756397
Especially since vanilla HW1 had the same problems without patches.
>>284756357
Just is an understatement. They fixed a bunch of the things from HW2 engine and added some others as well.
But yes, the core is the HW2 engine.
>14 unit limit on Salvage Corvettes
And for good reason, holy shit. The retard AI cant touch these things and they're so much faster too. I almost got every turanic ship they threw at me.
>>284755347
Yeah, the X formation looks really weird, for some reason, every time I put them on aggressive, most of turn around then turn again when they get close.
I wish they kept the aggressive, defensive, and evasive tactics.
its just hw2 strike formations now.
its still a good remake, but I wish they could have done more.
also, is anyone having an issue in multiplayer beta? I keep trying join matches, but every single one is asking for a password.
Just any FYI to anyone wondering: the collection comes with the original first 2 games(minus the cataclysm expansion) updated to run on modern PCs. So, is the remasters suck, then you could always play the legendary originals. Also, I would highly recommend playing the cataclysm expansion

Now you're just being retarded. Of course it's 'preserved' they didn't do anything to them.
Which, to reiterate, means you can't play them.
>>284757384
So, how many swarmers you at?
>>284757384
You clearly only captured 5 of the 9 Ion array frigates in the 4th mission.

Make sure you enable the game to read off the correct GPU if you got multiples. Mine was reading off the wrong one (which didnt support DX11, hence the your getting crashes), but I went to my Nvidia controller and enabled it to run off the proper GPU and it works fine now.
If you need any more help, search the Homeworld Remastered steam Forums
>>284756249
Out of curiosity, what is the % system?
Is anybody else having problems trying to play the Classic version of Homeworld 1? I can't get past either the tutorial or the first mission becuase the game will crash every time an enemy ship blows up.
So, no fuel in HW1 remaster. Does this apply to the Kadeshi, and if so, how the fuck are you meant to fight them?
>>284757780
instead of projectiles with ballistic simulations, the bullets being fired simply have a % chance to hit.
Anyone here ever play the battlestar galactica mod?
God I hope that gets ported over, it would be amazing to mess around with friends.
>>284749492
Im fairly certain they're using an entirely enginefor the remastered games. Apparently, the engine for HW2 and the company that developed it both went under, so they had to use a new one.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W28HPTaUI5E
Its somewhere on there. And they lost the Cataclysm source code...which sucks.

>>284758008
Nah they bought HW2's source code with the trademark. Most of the game engine is still intact, they tore out the old netcode and graphics engine and built in new ones.
>>284756397
Salvaging was awesome because it was too hard and too rewarding. Now it's too easy and too rewarding. I see no conflict.
>>284757994
That's a pity, i loved spamming a shitload of repair corvettes against the last AI research ship just to see them them shoot each other by mistake due to their shitty aim.

Why do people keep saying Gearbox this and Gearbox that? Its not like Randy Pitchford sat next to the original developers (the few they managed to cobble together) and told them how remake the game. As far I could tell from the interviews, they developers made some tweaks and that'd just make sense now.

On my first run of mission 4that I failed because I had no decent anti-capital in time for the escapethere were 3 at the carrier so 6 in total.
It does seem to scale.
Does anyone remember the HW forum that did concept art for the game/mods and got super fucking anal if your art wasn't up to the ridiculously high standards they set.
I used to read it for entertainment factor, nothing like watching a clique rip apart someone for not having the colour palette 'right'.
Having said that they did really good concepts for ships though.
>>284757042
And all it takes to run them in whatever resolution you like is editing a registry file? People figured that out like ten years ago. Works just fine.
>>284760334
It doesn't play nice with horizontal stretch, though.
>>284756249
No it's not fine. The corvette turrets on the HW1 ships only shoot directly in front now.
And the Corvette AI acts like a fighter - flying directly into the target, rather than flying around it with the turrets firing sideways.
Get this: A multigun corvette is now inferior to bombers. If you pit multigun corvettes vs bombers, the bombers will win.
They fucked it up a huge amount.
>>284760732
It's not designed for widescreen monitors, why would it?
>>284761334
You sure about that, my multiguns seems to use their turrets to fire at targets all around them at once.
>>284735965

this exists?
wtf, why isn't this STICKIED!?
>>284757959
They appear to be the exception.
Which means it was a conscious decision, as in someone sat down and said "fuck fuel" when it came to the player.
Once again, dumbing things down wins the day.
And the problem is that these people will try to justify it with things like, "B-b-but it's less micro!" as if you had to micro it to begin with.
It was a layer of strategy that made support frigates important and leashed strikecraft so they couldn't just run all over the map unrestricted.
>>284758805
That's incorrect.
>gearbox bought the rights and started the remake
>bought blackbird interactive who were making Hardware: Shipbreakers. BI are the original homeworld devs
>Original devs offer input and assets/etc. for Homeworld remaster, but Gearbox staff are the ones remaking it.
>Blackbird Interactive/Homeworld devs are working on Homeworld: Shipbreakers.
One thing that definitely made it worth the purchase. They left in custom decals and even upped the res from 64x64 to 256x256.
Slap on an alpha layer and your good to go.
>>284761468
Yes, I'm absolutely certain. If your multigun corvettes are doing that, it's probably because you're using the Hiigaran ones, and not the Kushan or Taiidan HW corvettes.

Hey so I'm playing through Homeworld 1, and I have one question. How do you adjust ship hieght (y axis) ? I know to move the camera up and down with the home key on the side. When I right click the ships only move on the level they are on

Taiidan in M05 was the most anti-climax battle I ever fought yet. TAI carrier just sits there instead of going its famous 'let's ram into that banana ship' charge. etc.

I think it was middle-click in H2.
I can't recall H1
That said, how is the remaster right now? Are both games included? Is it complete? Both H1 & H2? Or should I wait for a fuckton of updates to come out?
>>284763375
Also:
Since I read about diff. scaling etc.
Does H2 still have the enemies of the next mission have the exact counters of the ships you had in the previous mission, or is that removed because it needs too much brain power for new gamers? All you had to do was sell them...
I'm only interested for potential tears on steam forums
>>284763375
its all there
>>284763650
Almost certain theres dynamic scaling in both the remasters.
For instance I only fought about 6 turanic ion frigates when others fought 9 or 4.
>>284763350
Here's another fun one. You can't retire the ion array frigates, so if you capture them they're dead weight - unless you want to murder the crew aboard by telling them to scuttle.
>>284763825
There was no scaling in h2 I think
Just enemies having the exact counters of the units you had in the previous mission
I could be mixing my games up though
>>284763825
>dynamic scaling
I think I fought 9 Ion Array Frigates because I'd built 4 support frigates. Next time I played that level I only had six jump me. Dumb.
Does anyone else hope that the classics get official resolution patches and maybe Steamworks/some other multiplayer support? If we don't get the latter, then GameRanger should be viable (it was with the disc versions, at least) but I really hope we get the former.
>>284763375
Its good only if you liked HW2 more than HW1.
There are a lot of niggling details in the HW1 engine that didn't make it to the remake. The HW2 remake is literally perfect if not for audio bugs.
>>284757042
If you want widescreen play the remasters on the lowest settings.
>>284764035
Actually thats not the case, I made that mistake too. You can retire them, you just have to wait until the next mission.

Which makes the neat flak barrage thing heavy corvettes have almost useless.

Can I really join even though I'm not a spambot?
>>284762220
Just tested this in the Cathedral of Kadesh, the heavy corvettes and multigun corvettes clearly strafe sideways and attack with their turrets rotated to the side. Granted they will attack head on sometimes, but they are able to attack normally and rotate their turrets accordingly.

>>284767145

Like, literally not fun, the antithesis of fun, literally no fun allowed.
I spent hours building my ships and gathering resources before moving on to the next mission, and what's the next mission?
A fuckload of asteroids in your way that collide with the mothership, and if you destroy them you transform them into ricocheting smaller asteroids of doom that rape every single one of your ships.
Like, what's the point? No really. This isn't even realistic, space doesn't fucking work that way, you are NOT going to be raped by a shitload of asteroids close to one another, space is way too big for that to happen.
