>ME
Gameplay is clunky
Great premise
Earnest start to the franchise
Planet exploration could have been done better
>ME 2
Strips out almost all rpg elements
TPS beginning of gears transition
Filler between the stories
Boring as fuck scanning
Muh cerberus
Muh reapers
>ME 3
Shit ending
Brings back some rpg elements that 2 was missing
More gear gamepay
Even more muh cerberus
OC donut steel ninja man
Most squad members from previous games get a one mission cameo
Multiplayer bretty gud

That being said despite the sharp downward spiral the series took i still enjoy the franchise to some extent and just started a new playthrough

That being said

ME2 is widely regarded as the high-point in the series (except on /v/)

I just like it because of muh squad and muh cerberus muh better classes and muh planets and dialogue and oh god hurr its so good
>I need minimal heat increase.
>And speed. I have extremely high performance requirements.
>Do you have anything flashier? I want something that says: "I own this room"

".......I own *you!".

ME2 is definitely not for storyfags though. You don't do anything meaningful. I kind of like it for that reason.

Play ME1, pretend the series ended there.

In fact, it's quite conclusive by itself I'd say.

ME2 and 3 are just as bad as one another, they play very simmilarly and 3 has slightly worse writing than 1. Not saying they're completely bad, but they're nothing of what they should have been at all in various aspects.

Unless you don't like story/writing/RPGs, and you're a fan of third person shooters, in that case skip 1 and go for 2/3, you'll love them.
>>
>>284556716
What do you know about it so far OP? Because ME1 is my favorite but i think mostly because the story and how it evolved was so gripping.

ME1 and ME2 are both great (ME1 > ME2 though), ME3 is fun and a good conclusion to the franchise minus the last half hour. If you view the whole game as the ending, its not terrible.

Sadness in knowing this was Bioware's last great game.
>>
>>284559723
ME2 was a huge step down in almost every regard. Planet exploration was completely wiped out, replaced with a horrible planet scanning minigame. The actual combat was streamlined into another cover based shooter typical of its time rather than the much faster paced combat of the first game. And almost all the RPG elements were thrown out on the way. The writing also began to obviously suffer, the beginnings of Mac Walters' influence I suppose. Every character was either a joke, a badass or a loser to make you look badass. There was no world building since it was all taken for granted from the previous game, and instead of feeling like there's a functioning world around you it feels as though you're a movie star walking around a set throwing out one liners.

That's not to say it didn't do anything right. The specialization of classes through an individual skill that defined their playstyle helped make every class feel unique rather than a pistol platform with bonuses thrown on. And the squad was much more diverse as you stated. I just wish the game hadn't degraded so much to bring out these good points.
>>
>>284556716
You'll like 1 and 2. You'll have fun in 3, but you'll hate the fuck ton of fetch quests and shit ending. 1 has the best music, 2 and 3 have the best gameplay, 3 has the best DLCs. The stories in all of them can be good and bad at times.

Basically you'll have fun then hate the series forever after you're done.

Combat and story are inversely proportional. ME1 has the best story, but clunky as shit combat. ME3's combat is fucking fantastic, but holy shit I've never seen a story go to shit like that.

The character is every game are great. I was genuinely surprised by people like James (aka Big McLargeHuge), and he became one of my favorite characters.

Don't believe anyone saying that the exploration in ME1 is better than ME2. Copy pasted generic complexes on different colored square grids with randomized peaks and valleys is not quality. Chasing an AI across multiple systems from a drifting station to a unique factory on a relatively unknown planet is exploration. Following an intergalactic crime mob's rabbit trail on world varying from poisonous to arid to discover illicit activities is exploration.

Here's the thing. Mass Effect 1 tried to take on a HUGE task in creating a setting full of brevity, and they did so. However, some things did need to be streamlined. ME2 did that, but they were a bit overzealous in that respect. ME3 found a happy medium in a lot of places, like a fantastic and diverse array of weapons, powers, and attachments. Each class really did feel quite different by the time ME3 came around. Skill trees were a great way to customize without being overwhelming.

In short, play the game for yourself and form your own opinion without any bias. That's what I did after talking shit about the series for years, and now it's one of my favorites.

to be honest, I prefer ME1's third person shootin'

in ME1 you have to make do with what you have you're in space bases not made for firefights, while in 2/3 you advance in narrow corridors, and every now and then you see conveniently placed covers, and you know a fight is going to break out, then you take cover, pop out and keep shooting until you get damaged, wait a little bit to regen, repeat

Yeah. It's a funny thing, the way it worked. All of that shit on paper basically screams downgrade, but the majority of the public actually took it in with open arms, unlike say DA2. A lot of people actually really hated the Mako and don't really think that much of ME1, whereas they really enjoyed the ADHDness of ME2. Personally I fit somewhere in between. E.g I liked the Mako exploration, but on the other hand didn't really miss it in ME2. That comment you said about ME2 feeling like you're a movie star walking around a set throwing one liners is spot-on. I see it as a strength though, it simply feeds off of opportunity. I doubt I've played a game with as many one liners as ME2. It does definitely have a way of making you feel like "the man", and again, that has basically been BioWare's one and only strength for the longest time now. Idealism and fantasy characters who seem too perfect and cool for their own good.

Not really. I remember my concerns for ME2, but afer playing the Vanguard, I ended up developing very aggressive playstyles for all classes to the point where I noticed I was unironically enjoying the game for its fights and combat. Basically what it came down to was stacking lots of anti-shield/barrier shit and using the bonus powers as an advantage. I was literally shredding shit with SMGs and biotics and stayed in cover for like 1 sec max. Sometimes it was almost like memorizing raid mechanics in WoW or a level in splinter cell.

honestly i prefer the first one. something with alot more skills trees to choose from, weapon customisation and a whole fuckton of armour choices.

>Sometimes it was almost like memorizing raid mechanics in WoW or a level in splinter cell
This is what I don't get about people who rave about Vanguard. They call it high risk, high reward gameplay. But in reality its just high risk. You're completely it basically as fast as any other class, you're just exposing yourself to far more danger in the process.

I said easier difficulty modes. That's Casual, Easy, and Normal.

I also said nothing about Vanguard. My favorite class is Sentinel, actually. Your presumptuousness is exactly the reason why your opinion is moot. You did the equivalent of someone new to fighting games just mashing a couple surface combos over and over and then accusing the game of having shallow combat/being boring. ME3 has a lot of shortcomings, but the combat is not one of them.

Whats amazing is that ME1 put up such a great foundation for a game series. Even if ME2 did a lot of stupid fucking shit, it was still a decent game but its just because of ME1. ME3 though was a complete failure, the quality dropped immensely and there was so many choices that was disregarded because they had no time.

>Strips out almost all rpg elements
>TPS beginning of gears transition

While both of these are completely true, they're not complete negatives the way you put them. There was undoubtedly less playing around with math, but mainly because they replaced "gotta have bigger numbers" with actually tangibly different skill system which had immediate impact on how you played the game because you didn't have to go through "+X%" worth of levels before getting to the good, game-altering stuff. Combat was also tightened a whole lot compared to the first game which was a really sub-par TPS while in ME2 it's a mediocre TPS.

I'm pretty sure that's because of voice acting. Jennifer Hale was her usual self, but FemShep was still better than Mark Meer's... whatever the hell he was going for with Shepard's voice. It sounded like he was imitating Geralt's monotone from Witcher or something.
