How long would someone live for if you stripped them down to this instantly?

Like say you had some alien ray gun that evaporated skin, bone, organs, and left you like this. How long would it take to die?

Metal Gear Solid 2 is philosophical and postmodern, if that's up your alley. Not sure if I would call it existential, but it's metaphysical insofar as it's, on a certain level, a game about games and how they interact with the player.

That model is really misleading in how stiff the brain and central nervous system is. It's rather delicate and floppy more it's kind of more like warming jello and extremely pliable. Just holding a brain in your hand will dent it from the weight alone and the nervous system is more like of loose skin and fat than something that looks plastic.
>>
>>281945838
It's not a model. They use a special wax to make it rigid.

Because it looks simple. It's not. In the same way a car looks like some metal tossed on wheels and some seats inside. Simple enough but you're forgetting pretty much every single piece of mechanics or electronics in the thing.
You're seeing it from a non-microscopic view. The same way the brain looks like a lump of crumpled fat and your eyes don't see the individual neurons or interactions at that scale.

Really? Because the human body isn't built for blood to transport oxygen to the various organs and tissue? We can just absorb oxygen through our skin, now? Great news - the only way to suffocate a human is to drown them. In water that doesn't contain oxygen. I.e. not water.

When I was younger I'd always get really freaked out when I thought about that. The fact there's blood constantly moving in your body, organs constantly pumping, tones of things you had no idea where even there and that you can't control.

It was such a shocking experience learning that. It's like you were a robot and never knew it, then one day you look inside to find gears and circuits.

About 560ms to 610ms on average. The time it takes that mess to hit the floor and then their brain is gone for good because it can't survive that fall without the arachnoid tissue or skull to protect it. Also those are organs, so if your ray gun destroyed organs it would destroy that as well.

I think human consciousness is a tragic misstep in evolution. We became too self aware; nature created an aspect of nature separate from itself. We are creatures that should not exist by natural law. We are things that labor under the illusion of having a self, a secretion of sensory experience and feeling, programmed with total assurance that we are each somebody, when in fact everybody’s nobody. I think the honorable thing for our species to do is deny our programming, stop reproducing, walk hand in hand into extinction, one last midnight, brothers and sisters opting out of a raw deal.

Life does not exist. You don't have a soul or spirit. You're nothing more than a bunch of atoms, no different than a quantum computer, and you'll stop existing when you die.

You are just a machine that will brake down one day -- is that so hard to understand? You have no value, worth, meaning, or anything. When you permanently die, it'll be as if you never existed on earth. So why does right or wrong against you matter in that sense? Emotions and feelings are an illusion created by your brain. You are a bunch of atoms, nothing more than that. Living/life do not exist in a physical sense, the atoms in your brain are arranged in such a way so you think that you are life or something else other than a bunch of atoms.

Just because humans have arbitrary categories and give those things that fall under those categories names, that doesn't make doing something that fall under those categories wrong or right. What is life and what isn't life is nothing more than your imagination. So if I "kill" "someone", it's only because you think that something is living. Also what you believe is right or wrong is all your imagination as well. There is no universal right or wrong to things, right or wrong doesn't physically exist like atoms do.

I am not "alive", I am just a bunch of atoms. Life doesn't exist, it is a term that is a secondary quality.

Life is pointless, without purpose, meaning, and reason. There is absolutely no reason to live life. Your life will end and you will stop existing. Making up a reason for you to live is like making up a reason why a computer or rock should live. From a physical standpoint, you are no different than a rock. What you think is entirely based on the arrangement of molecules in your head. If you get Alzheimer's, you will forget things. There is nothing special about you or your mind. You will stop existing one day and you will never think, see, touch, taste, smell, or hear anything else ever again. It will be as if the big bang or this universe never occurred from your point of view.

Theoretically and actually, yes. But it needs to be an advanced computer and it's not straight data mapping like ram. Our minds are basically dynamically compressed encrypted data. We link some neurons to other neurons and generate a whole webbed scheme of data interacting at the abstract and physical level. So it'd need to be able to store that map in a proper fashion and everyone's map is somewhat different.
With an even more complex system you wouldn't even need to emulate the brain, your essence is abstractable to code process. The biggest issue is your brain generally expects stimuli to work with though, so you'd need to be able to represent that as well to work with it.

Existentialism is the excuse people give that their made up beliefs such as reason/value/meaning are true from their perspective.

Just because someone believes that a point to life isn't objective does not mean that believing in a subjective reason for your life is not based on logical fallacies.

I'm glad that there is no afterlife. Everyone will go back to nothingness where they belong and it'll be as if the big bang accident never occurred. Things will go back to normal.

Uploading your mind to a computer would just create a copy, which isn't technically you. You'll still age and die.

The best we could do is replace our dying brain cells with replicating artificial ones as the old ones die. Eventually, your brain would be mostly artificial and maybe actually transferable.

Additionally, they aren't really "organisms" anymore, as they no longer have the capacity to perform anywhere near complete metabolism on their own
>>
absolutely everything that we do is done with the human body, and I think its a mistake to separate it logically from the brain, since the brain shuts off almost immediately after you take too many stimulants away

work
learning and information storage
every environmental interaction
reproduction
creation of more machines

certain parts of your brain are not even aware of the activity of other parts of your brain. Somehow there is a 'you' that can access things like memories, desires, or instincts, but those subcomponents are not you, nor are they even aware of themselves

That is true by definition.

>Who cares.
Anyone responding to the question of what the reason of life is, because if it doesn't align with the facts, then they're wrong. Is pleasure awesome? Definitely. Is it the meaning to life? Unlikely since so much of life is unable to experience it or has limited experience of it and how life is potentially going to take a turn where pleasure isn't really a thing anymore, though it may gain it back... really we don't know and the answer sure as fuck isn't "we know because we like the idea of <something here>." For the same reason heaven doesn't exist just because the idea of people dying makes your grandmother sad.

There isn't. It's like asking which gear contains the time in mechanical clock. Or what part of the computer contains the understanding or the processes it's doing. It doesn't. There is no part of you that thinks because it is the parts of you that make the thinking happen.
>>
There is no absolute and objective morality.

Morality is just an evolutionary tool and can change due to different selective pressures.

Your opinion is meaningless. Why gives a fuck?
Your posts are meaningless. Why even bother?
This thread is meaningless. Why are you even posting?
This site is meaningless. Why are you here?
Your life is meaningless. Why live?

Death is the only equalizer.
You, me, and everyone you know will die.
You, me, and everyone else you know will have lived a pointless, futile, and utterly meaningless life.

But hey, if pretending things have meaning makes you feel better. Go ahead.

Deep down inside... You know you're worthless, and so is everything and everyone else. The girl/guy you have a crush on, the family you love, the people you meet, your enemies... You, me, and everyone and everything else might as well have never existed. Because once you die, you remember nothing, you know nothing, you're conscious of nothing, you ARE nothing.
