SoT is the single greatest game ever made, I don't care how many minor faults it has in gameplay, graphics, etc., the game is so fucking perfectly put together that it created an unrivalled single-player experience.

The only redeeming quality of this game was its Atmosphere
Flying around from station to station following the trade lines so you dont get attacked as often.
What made the game alive was the coms as well, if you followed a hauler ship they would actually get scared and ask the security ships to check you out

It's the music and the art style. Halo CE does it quite well too, especially with the levels Halo, The Maw and 343GS

The Witcher 1 - those grassy fields, the dirty towns, the folk instrumental music

People will argue this, but the first FEAR did something right. The whole office and passive industrial aesthetic just does it for me.

STALKER is about people dungeoneering the ruins of Chernobyl after another event
Life in The Zone is harsh but it's implied that the otherworldly discoveries that stalkers find are making the rest of the world a paradise.

semi-open world FPS, excellent ecological AI system that tracks a few thousand entities and has them make rational decisions that will ultimately change depending on your actions (whether someone lives or dies depends on who you killed many hours before and whether they were around to kill the guy later, for instance. Hell, they might not kill the guy anyway depending on other factors. It's crazy how in depth it gets)

>>281851226
S.T.A.L.K.E.R is an open world fps set int the Chernobyl exclusion zone in an alternate timeline where the nuclear incident and following events lead to the 'zone' being filled with mutant creatures and, most notably, 'anomalies': areas that pose great personal danger but also give birth to powerful 'artifacts'. Obviously, these artifacts become incredibly sought after and the zone, though under military control, becomes populated with 'stalkers' who seach for such artifacts and attempt to break into the centre of the zone, where more poweful anomalies are artifacts are sure to flourish.

It's really fucking good, though a little unpolished at points. he atmosphere is beyond incredible, however.

Why would they make it darker? The whole point of ME1 was that it was a hidden dystopia. It was bright and clean, but rotten at the core.

Why can't designers fucking realise that yes, people can understand subtlety? Not every dystopian society needs to be fucking Oceania.

STALKER, it is my default answer for these things, I got new vegas to be pretty atmospheric after modding the shit out of it, but STALKER, especially with mods like Zone of Alienation are atmospheric as fuck.

>sitting by a fire inna garbage with some loners after raiding the military documents in agroprom
>hear them bantering and telling stories, since I'm slav I can understand them
>they proceed to grumble about the lack of any women in the zone bantering about the kind of women there would be in the zone
>"Straight up amazonians, I tell ya!"
>all seven men around the fire voice their agreement, while another whips out his guitar and starts playing
>tfw loners have great taste

I'm not sure if the english version of the game had slav bantz in it, but the voice acting was great for the around-the-fire story system, it goes without saying that they get repeated from time to time as tales go, but it still never gets old for me.
