I play every game on the hardest difficulty but in DA:I I play in normal. Not because it's very hard but because the companions are completly stupid, you can't queue action, the tactical camera is shit and it's designed for a controller.

Yes you can switch mid game. Also friendly fire is optional.
The beginning of the game can be tricky, so maybe start on hard... but later on if you get overleveled (easy to do for autists/completionists) you might want to think about insane.

i play a champion tank so all of that just adds difficulty
gotta keep all the enemies taunted.
i guess if you weren't playing a tank nightmare would be harder. as is i just pop Taunt into invuln skill and wipe mobs
party comp is important, you never want more than 1 rogue or 1 mage. i always run sword board champion and cassandra templar 2h and varric + solas or vivienne
