The GameCube controller is my favorite controller mostly because of nostalgia. I was a pretty poor kid, so most vidya I played was through my friends until I got my first home console, that being the GameCube.
Kid Icarus is seriously near perfect, though. The only fault that I can admit it has is controls, but only because I can understand other people having trouble with them due to the design of the 3DS. They've never really bothered me.

Was it not good? I remember really enjoying it.
I never have fun playing physical board or card games with tons of rules and complexities because people can just cheat on a whim, or you get shit like when you'd play Yu-Gi-Oh or something and somebody has to look up a card's ability because they don't trust you. Shit's just tedious. Virtual board games/card games get rid of all that hassle, and I remember really liking the actual Pokemon TGC.
As for why I kept playing vidya, it's because the TGC wasn't the first game I ever played, it's the first I ever owned.
