I only like mages if it's true turn based. Otherwise it feels like a clusterfuck (BG series). Similar feelings about thief - backstab is always great in concept but a pain to be assed over positioning. So for something like NWN2 with so many trash mobs everywhere I usually just min-max some fighter/fencer the first run then go back for the mage or thief if it's worth playing through again.

I always have a tough time deciding what class I want to stick to. My first choice is usually a paladin or spell blade. If neither of those, depending on the engine and game, in this case NwN 2 I go wizard of some sort.
Though I end up playing most if not all classes. Even before I finish a play through with another.

As I child I always used to pick Paladin. Which was sort of strange, because everyone else always picked the "Edgy" classes. i.e. Rogues, Unholy Knights, Shadow Warlock etc. etc.
I used to love being Paladin. The Ability to heal myself and allies, the ability to tank any and all monsters. The Ability to solo most content. The Bright Yellow or White Magic and crazy angel looking gear. I also loved the feeling I got when I helped other people.
Though as I have gotten older, I've moved away from it. At first it was Wizards. Simply because High Damage. Then it was Barbarians or Berserkers, because they had a lot of damage but even more maneuverability. Then it was Rangers or Hunters because they usually had the absolute Highest Maneuverability and I loved going fast. But all of that happened in about a year, I really couldn't figure out what I liked the most.
Then I played The Witcher 1. And I loved the idea of a Monster Hunter. A person who creates potions, poisons, uses a magic sword and as little armor as possible. Allowing me to be fast, but deal high damage due to high knowledge of most encounters. And a little bit of Magic here and there to spice things up.
I like playing a Witcher type character. Only problem is, a lot of games don't really allow it.
I usually play warlock becuase people bully me at school because I'm not tall nor strong or nice with people but inside me I feel a fire and anger that one day will come out like a warlock

Warrior, I like the idea of an average dude being able to do extrodinary things. It lets me project myself on the character even more which adds to immersion for me. I'm a big daydreamer so this kind of shit just really appeals to me and it's great because virtually every game has a warrior class. I think dragon's dogma's fighter class was my favorite even though ironically they have a warrior class but its a big old two handed class. I also hate the whole enormous swords/sheilds/armor gimmick, i prefer more stylized, introcate, designs that could be at least somewhat plausible.

I made a bard in the originan NWN 2 campaign. It was fun, using status effects and having huge arse diplomacy skills.
I wasn't much use in combat though, aside from controlling the battle field which was okay. Plenty of blasters and melee guys to do that for me.
But then in one part of the game you have to go solo, and wouldn't you believe it, the part where you are solo is filled with the goddamn undead, vampires specifically. Guess what undead don't give a fuck about? Status effects, stuns and the like
It wasn't a fun time. I'd be permanently fucked if my inventory wasn't filled with some bullshit damage items that managed to give me enough oomph to get pass that part.

Yup. The cut plotline would involve her essentially harboring a deity from the plane of fire inside her soul, which is what causes her mood stuff. And she would have gone mental after the King of Shadows stuff and she would have been the actually bigger danger to the Sword Coast, which Sand wanted to warn you about.
I enjoy weird classes like bards if they aren't actually bards - or pet classes such as necromancers if they can be enjoyed without fucked up AI and pathfinding ruining anything.
Best class design I ever saw were bureaucrats or traders in Anarchy Online.
After that it's down to warlock or mage. Then it's probably rogue/thief followed by some sort of monk. Warrior/paladin and especially ranged weapon dudes are always boring to play and I like to avoid them.

Well you're right that monk is shit. Shadowdancer is total crap too, except for the first level because HiPS.
Monk with elemental weapons is okay though, you focus on lots of hits and the damage comes from big enchants.
But HiPS does help monks, if only to add survivability.
Other classes are better though. Especially the divine classes (Druid/Cleric/FS and some prestiges) are very powerful. The actual issue with the game and the reason most people shit on it, is because the guy that was directing it was a fucking faggot and he literally got half-way through development and left for BioWare.
Then the good writers had to salvage the game and they simply didn't have enough time to craft it into the amazing, Obsidian tier, plot it should have been.
Mask of the Betrayer more than made up for that though.

HiPS in NWN2 wasn't as powerful as in NWN1 though, still pretty good but honestly I don't consider a single level dip to be real multiclassing since you're just doing it for a perk or small class feature

The spellcasters, in NWN2 it's Wizard/Sorcerer. I like to have a lot of options.
Mage thief or wombo combo.
Spellsword/battlemage or paladin if healing is really valuable in the game.
I pick the healer class. Not because I'm a faggot, but because I want to keep people alive.
I know how frustrated people can get when they die in games so I try to prevent that with healing.
