The ONLY Sentai series I was able to sit through, and enjoy a lot, was Jetman. It was really great. Yes I want more "adult tones from kids shows", and Jetman did me provide just that. It was light-hearted and yet had enjoyable mature themes and great character development.

I have never seen anything like it in terms of character development. None of the characters were warriors at the beggining, bar Ryu who actually was a trained soldier. Kaori was a rich spoiled girl, Raita a goddamn fat farmer, Ako a retarded schoolgirl, and Gai was just a badass loner.
These people were just struck by the birdonic waves and had to learn how to fight as a team. And then two of the dudes fall in love for the same girl when she actually loves the other one. It's a love square and it was fucking great.

Yes it was kiddie crap and every showa series was the same rehashed plot about an evil organization remodelling some guy, BUT THEN Black was pretty damn awesome. Then comes heisei, and Kuuga, Agito, Ryuki, Blade, Faiz, they're all really great series that had amazing ratings. Then things just went downhill. Hibiki was a goddamn production nightmare but was still enjoyable. Kabuto started out amazing but fucked up mid-season. Ratings declined and they had to turn into toyetic kiddie shit to increase toy sales instead. Enter Den-O and the end begins.
Double was still fine, not as great as early heisei but fine. That's about it. OOO was boring and had budget issues (cool suits aside), Fourze was just garbage, dropped that shit halfway through and skipped Wizard since it looked retarded.
Gaim had a great plot, still. I didn't like the designs but enjoyed it throughly, really great structured story with no loose ends.
And now Drive is fucking awful kiddie shit all over again. Guess I'm done with Kamen Rider.

I'm not what you think I am, I'm just an adult now. I can't enjoy things aimed at 5 year old children. Black was great. Yes it had about the same premise of the old shows, but it was much more subtle. The villains were more of a race of evil aliens rather than a Shocker clone. Black had an amazing soundtrack too, which really made a mark on me. I really enjoyed it throughly, not just because it was "Dark" but just because it was well made overall.
