1. The lava does not seem to be moving, and there is no visible source of new lava. So the lava would eventually settle. The heat would have partly escaped into the atmosphere and partly spread through the diamond initially and into the surrounding land.
2. In the cooling event of the lava, the diamond heats up. The chamber surfaces would have heated to a cooking degree, searing the animal inside it like a pancake on a charred hot pan. The radiation from the lava will also pass through the supposedly clear solid diamond and cook the animal like a grill. The air tube would then act like a chimney with visible cooking smoke slowly leaking out.
3. The person standing on the platform above the lava will be fine just like anyone visiting a volcano. This is a good time to take pictures.
4. The only visible diamond bits are the air tube poking out of the lava. It would have been blackened from the smoke and will be hard to spot on a lake of cooling lava. So the diamond underground, and the now dead and over-cooked dog will remain unknown until somebody, someday, decides to dig into the cooled, solid lava formation for whatever reason. They will strike diamond, literally.
5. If I am that person, and if I have exclusive knowledge of diamond presence of the site, there are many ways to get rich from that. And with the money, I can buy all the dogs I want.
6. Not from /v/, but thanks for the interesting thread.

Yes.
A lot of things are, infact. Same with diamond.
The reason gold and diamond costs are so high is largely because of inflation because the gubbments know people will pay tons of money for them.
Diamonds in particular are not worth nearly as much as they're marketed for, because they're almost wholly owned by a single company, who can control the price as they wish.
A more reasonable price for them would be a 80% reduction in their current costs.

>>270190356
Yes, and it's pretty expensive, but that isn't the single factor. You have to also consider the demand and uses, while Pd does have uses, gold has more demand, both from regular people, as well as manufacturing perspectives. And in general you make more general things out of gold. Where as Pd usually ends up in special chemicals for specialized applications, and only has trace amounts in other areas.
Then again that's what I'm recalling off the top of my head, and I am no expert by any stretch of the imagination. So feel free to correct me if I am wrong, I would welcome it.

>Science
>engineering
But in both of these cases manufactured or man made diamonds reign supreme. As far as I am aware most engineering diamonds are the very tiny almost non gemstone kind, which have been manufactured for ages now.
Most scientific uses for diamond require very few impurities to function best, which is why lab grown diamond is the king there too. (well admittedly there are a few areas that use imperfections in the crystal lattice, but those are few, and even then it's better to create and control those imperfections than buy mined diamonds and hope for the best. )

Only some areas where such measures can be made. Sure every breakthrough will contribute to another in these many interwoven fields of study in this globalized world, but not everything is advancing at a steady pace, or at any pace at all. Space travel has hardly changed at all, the only recent change has been in design philosophy, not in tech. Even if a tech change is made, it will just be switching to something that was proposed twenty years ago. Tech comes in spurts of advancement, and not everything will advance at the same pace, or at all until a breakthrough in another area is made first to precipitate it.

No corporation would survive investing in asteroid mining. It would be decades before they'd break even, if they ever did. The cost of moving things in space increases exponentially as their mass increases. You could move asteroids closer to earth theoretically, but it is extremely risky and would be very expensive.
Long story short. Our chance at space came and went. The world doesn't care about anything other than the present.

I mean that most humans do not care about future problems and care only about there here and now. Space colonisation and exploitation secures humanity's future, but it is very expensive and serious investment would reduce the quality of life for many people.
Space travel technology 20 years ago is identical to space technology travel now. In turn, space travel technology is identical to space travel technology 40 years ago. It still revolves around highly inefficient combustion to send out a flame for propulsion. Without nuclear fusion, we've peaked. Considering how anti-nuclear most of the world is, you probably shouldn't keep your hopes up about great strides in technology.

I disagree, you could always use the old fission drives if you really thought that we needed to get around the solar system quickly. But let's be honest, if we do anything it will likely be automatized, no need to do things quick once you got a way to build drones that do the work for you. Takes much less material that way anyway, no need for safety shit compared to anything that can hold a human.
And let's be honest, is there really much need, or even drive to try to physically go to many of the other planets? Hell even Mars, our best bet, is damn near uninhabitable. Even if we mined asteroids what will we do with them, build more mining rigs, a space station or two for a show of scientific and engineering prowess? We wouldn't want to chuck that shit back down here unless we were retarded of course, considering the effort it would take to get it off earth again should we ever need it in space. (though since people generally lack forethought and planning I don't doubt that would happen)
I can agree with you on one thing, nothing significant is probably going to happen in the near future, or in our lifetimes.

Nothing most likely. Get a few photos. Take some samples. Then get some news that the US Government is slashing NASA funding because negroes in Detroit are lagging behind academically.
As a sidenote, sending a probe to a comet cost about a billion euros. Just a probe. No heavy mining equipment. As far as I am aware, no intention of it being a return mission. A billion euro just to get some info on the rock. Imagine what it would cost to send a large spacecraft, complete with heavy mining equipment and the ability to come back to Earth with its payload? Especially if humans had to go along as well. I get the feeling there would be a negative return on that investment. Even if they found a tonne of Diamonds.
