Back when I actually touched the cards everyone was flinging Mystical Typhoons so this wouldn't be a problem. I miss the school days of Yu Gi cards, triple Monster Reborns, Dark Holes, Magic Cylinders, Mirror Force, people actually put Gate Guardians in their decks, all that jazz. Every expansion brought new concepts, the Dragon decks with like a dozen effect dragon cards, the Wizards with tokens that played like MP use, the spirit decks who were used for one turn, shit like Chaos Emperor dragon, etc.
All gone now I hear, I played Duel Network I don't remember how long ago but everyone was using those white cards that had players fly through 1/4th of their deck by turn 2 and if they spent even a 3rd turn building up whatever shit they were doing they'd quit. I lost all interest in the game since, duel network came too late.
There's a deck floating around made by some anon that only uses magic cards and this cards as the maing gimmick.

When the Zexal era came around, Konami implemented Problem-Solving Card Text, which solved a lot of retarded text and makes it easier to read how card effects work, which eliminated a lot of rulings. Pic very related because it had a fucking bible of rulings before they changed the text.

It was originally banned because it's easy to special (not fusion) summon, and it stops all other monsters from attacking. You can also use your opponent's monsters basically as union equips.
Nowadays though pretty much any card can just destroy it with some effect, so it's actually balanced in the current metagame.

I remember having a "first turn kill deck" that I've ran. Obviously it had a lot of banned cards for tournaments but as a kid you don't know shit about that. I don't remember the exact card list but it didn't involve "inventing" any card effects, the deck worked correctly and would have worked like that in tournaments.

When I say $40, I mean I specifically spent $40 ordering Medrauts because nobody could find them.
I ride on whatever deck can get me easy wins and free packs at locals, and use the prizes I pull, and decks I don't play anymore, as trade-fodder to build my next deck. I tend to go through 4-6 major decks in a year, and spend about $80-120 every three months ordering cards I can't trade for.
When I say I got my NK cards for peanuts, I'm not exaggerating. I spend $40, and the rest all fell into my lap.

You could easily be a sour Noble Knight player trying to justify their purchase. Not everyone got them as cheap as you claim to have gotten them, there are plenty of idiots who bought into them just because.
It has nothing to do with pulling out buying boxes. It has to do with exclusive card slots being taken up for years by this shitty deck that still hasn't done a damn thing. There were so many good cards that could have been made, but they weren't because "guys Noble Knights are still shit, so how do we fix them".

Matte sleeves. They shuffle easier than the glossy kind, and allow more air to move between the sleeves (preventing mold).
Invest in longboxes for your commons and chaff.
Have two binders. Good, Monster binders. One for trades, and one for valuable cards you don't want to trade away yet, but need to keep safe. Sleeve the cards before putting them in the binder.
Invest in a good deckbox for your primary deck. The Ultra Pro Satin Tower is my recommendation. It's a little expensive, but it has enough room for your 40 card Deck, your 15 card Extra Deck, your 15 card Side Deck, and 5-10 Token cards, all sleeved. It also has a second compartment built into the bottom for dice, counters, or even same paper and a golf pencil. Whatever extras you think you may need at an event.
If you're going to a large even, be careful about how you transport your cards. I use a steel briefcase with a different combo on each lock. It's spacious enough for my trade binder, two deck boxes, and two mats. If you use a back-pack, make sure it has your name on it in at least two places.
Never take your eyes off your binder when you're negotiating trades. Don't let those faggots slip the cards they want out of your binder. Write down the names of the cards they want, and when you agree to the trade, THEN take the cards out and pass them across.
Always keep the sleeves your tradeaway cards were in. Never accept the tradeaway sleeves the other person had his cards in. If he won't take his own sleeves back, for any reason, throw them out.
Don't store cards in the tins. They're nearly airtight, and promote mold growth.
Do not place your card containers near any source of high heat or intense light, because the metal foil in rare cards will warp.
Don't flick the edges of your cards. I don't care if you see Jeff Jones do it at an ARG. Don't fucking do it.

Something I noticed, most of the newer cards now work with the current graveyard meta. Before, Dark World cards did so via "if discarded by effect, gain <effect>" which made it balanced. Now, it seems like every other played card has a "if sent to grave, do <effect>. Not even a discard condition. Just, sent to the grave via whatever means. By battle, milled, effect dump from deck.
So, to the current players, does the new graveyard meta seem a bit too good? Or is it a case of, need to be overpowered to compete with other overpowers?
Do ban cards count? Should put in graceful charity and pot of greed and painful choice.

He gets to attack as many times as the number of non-tuner's you used to summon him. He also can negate and destroy any card's effect that is activated once per turn. When he leaves the playing field he also allows you to summon "Shooting Star Dragon" from your extra deck

It works well in my Convulsions deck because I use Ninja Grandmaster Hanzo to special summon White Dragon Ninja who protects the spell/trap zone from destruction. The only way to beat that deck is to rush them down because they have the resources to churn out a Killer every turn, play a deck that makes monsters with a higher level/rank than it, or make an anti-Qliphort deck with triple MST/DustTornado and other spell destruction cards that will say FUCK YOU to their pendulum shenanigans.
Once the Killers start coming out, you're pretty fucked. That card is insane.

I have a friend who comes to my local card shop who plays by his own rules

DON'T BE LIKE HIM. He gets completely fucking smashed by everybody. His decks are too slow and he doesn't ever run any staple backrow, he only runs the situational trap cards that are for the archetype he's using. I know many of you are adamant about "how bad yugioh has gotten" and want to live in the past, but being like him is absolutely fucking embarrassing.
Don't get me wrong, I play special-snowflake decks too that aren't card-for-card copies of what other people use, but neglecting powerful staple cards out of moral principle is just fucking dumb.

The thing is with qtips, every build is inherently focused on being able to get Killer out just because of the way pendulum summoning works, being a no cost, inherent, multiple monster special summon, along with the fact the archtype revolves on tributing monsters for tibute summoning to get effects
The deck is just really shows Konami has no idea what they need to do in order to create a healthy game, and only what they want to do in order to (literally) jew you for cash

Plenty of the topping Jap decks dont run Killer, and most of the ones who do just have 1 in the side. He's pretty win more, Quilps prefer focusing on getting their setup consistantly rather than having a big monster that can be dead in your hand
