Fuck yeah! I remember loving that game. I vaguely remember getting the bad end or something. Still had a blast with that game.
>>
>>260253069
you fuckers bankrupted Cing with your flash karts. The devs were even talking about making a crossover title with Kyle Hyde and Ashley Robbins (since it's confirmed in-game that they take place in the same world). Dammit :(

I learned about this obscure, unknown game from X-play back in like 2005 or 2006. Back when X-Play was good.

Damn I almost want to pick this game up again. Emulating it just doesn't feel right.

yes. If you played the sequel to Trace Memory (Another Code R), you can find pictures of the Hotel Dusk characters at a lake. And in Last Window, you find a painting of that same lake that is the setting of Another Code R. This was mentioned in a dev interview and their response was we would love to make a crossover sequel if Last Window garners enough attention. But you fags just pirated the games, and Cing went kaput. Yes I mad. >:(

As much as I love Cing, TM was pretty short which kinda kills it for me. The sequel for Wii was many times better.

On topic, this, although it's only underrated in the sense that most would assume it's shovelware just by looking at it. It's actually fairly high quality, the 3ds one is too.
>>
>>260254004
muh nigga
are there any manga or anime of this game? that would be good

Bitch, I bought the game twice.
I'm still disappointed that I'll never be able to play Another Code R on my Wii.

I should pick up a EU copy of Last Window before it completely disappears, though.

thank you brother.
Also, Another Code R is pretty comfy. It does have so much text that you'll feel like you're reading a mystery novella than playing a videogame. It definitely is a direct sequel to trace memory with all the characters returning and direct references and such.

Honestly haven't seen much liking for that game. That said, I'd give it a try if a local store hadn't bought every complete copy available where I live to scalp at $20 each (other stores had previous had t for about $6 complete).
>>
>>260255160

>>
>>260255730
I believe if those people didn't have access to flash carts (or didn't know flash carts existed), they would have bought the game somehow. just like with the sequel to 999 - since flash karts weren't as widespread for the 3ds, many people did whatever they could to get the game - even going on ebay and such.
>>
>>260253330
Trace Memory wasn't even worth the download.
>>
>>260255730
I pirated it when I got my flash cart and basically downloaded games at random, then bought it later after enjoying it so much.

If I hadn't pirated it, I probably would have never known about it, let alone bought it.
>>
>>260255754
The game can be kinda slow at times but it's still pretty fun.
>>
I still feel bad to this day I don't own a physical copy of this game.
>>
>>260256903
I keep hearing decent things about that, but the EA logo in the corner makes me leery. Still, it's not as if EA is bad 100% of the time (some of the older games they handled, like, say, Hot Wheels Turbo Racing are pretty damn good), but they do have a bit of a bad reputation these days with their more modern games.
>>
>>260255160

>>260255171
>include one Slime Knight in your tank
>grab the Slime Knight
>wander over to enemy tank, trash the front doors
>smash all the machines, throw all the ammo out the front door so they can't attack anymore

>enemy comes into your tank
>grab enemy
>keep doing the throw-hit to keep the enemy alive and hold onto it
>door to enemy tank just opens for you
>grab a bunch of items
>keep electro-blasting them all back to your tank

>enemy fired lightning rod at you
>watch as it comes into your take
>sit right in the middle of the firing area
>catch lightning rod
>fire it back at opponents

>go into enemy tank
>grab opponents
>toss them into their cannons
>they die from running into fire from your tank

>first time you were actually in trouble
>your tank runs out of HP
>enemies running into your tank
>just grab them, bring them up to the cannons
>toss them into the cannons
>you have half a minute to blast the enemy tank freely because they're stuck in the air after the cannons

This game was a lot of fun.
>>
>>260253069
I started 999 the other day for the 1st time
I ended up with the coffin ending and a TBC
I was pissed so I looked up why
Apparently you HAVE to play the game at least twice, skipping all the dialogue, re doing the same puzzles since you have to do coffin in order to get true ending
so I watched the rest on youtube
considering 999 is an interactive book
did I ruin the fun?
>>
>>260257264
Hatsworth came out during that two year span where Activision was the worst thing ever and EA was attempting to not be hated.
So it's actually really good.
>>
>>260256160
You can't ever know, to a lot of people that hadn't played it they'd be going in blind, and they may have opted to keep their money for something else instead
Pirating lets you play at no cost, but this means the customer saw the game's value at 0$ instead of the retail price, there's no guarantee they would've ever bought it if they had no other choice

With the sequel to 999, its people who already know the value the sequel would offer and were willing to spend the money

>>260256332
True, without pirating a lot of people wouldn't have known about it, but having already experienced it for free I doubt many people would go out of their way to pay for it
I've actually bought games I've pirated, but its often because of a feature I can't have with the pirated version, and knowing the game and its quality, it pushes the value to the point were I feel like paying for it. But without any new feature other than support to the developers and moral peace of mind, there's little incentive to buy a game you've pirated.

Those who really dig and like the game will go out and get the real copy, supporting the developers, but those who pirated and dropped it or didn't like it as much, they got their money's worth, 0$. They weren't willing to spend any money on it to begin with, nor after the fact.
>>
>>260257840
Huh. Might have to keep my eye out for it. But I don't recall ever seeing any copies around where I live. Gives me the feeling it's going to be pricy these days (I suppose emulation would be the go-to for it, but no acekard or anything here).
>>
>>260257834
I would like to add
if I loved the story of 999 but hated the mashing A because the dialogue is forever long
is Virtue's Last Reward any better?
more puzzles and less dialogue?

>>
>>260257834
>did I ruin the fun?
A little bit. The big point is that the game takes different routes depending on your choices, and most of them are "bad" routes. Stuff goes to shit very quickly when you don't do things properly.

You needed to get a different ending first (the Safe ending) before the game would progress past the Coffin ending.

>>260258256
>mashing A because the dialogue is forever long
Once you've seen some dialogue, you can just hold down one of the shoulder buttons and run through it all quickly.
>>
>>260258260

It wasn't that bad, just way too short.
Their idea of "replay value" was beating the main levels over and over again, until you got enough stars to unlock your girlfriend, naked. No, really.

>Bloxavoid
Another homebrew where you keep going fast while avoiding blocks

>Arcomage
A Magic trading card like game

Oh bullshit. This game was fucking garbage. I fucking love Contra, love it. But fuck Contra 4. Jesus Christ.

If you have never played Contra 4 let's break it down. You know how that space between the top and bottom screen? The literal plastic space between the screen that allows you the close the son of a bitch? Well Contra 4 says "Fuck yeah, that's part of the game!" So when you play on a level that progresses upward, the bullets that are moving up or down, are in this "dead space" and you have to follow them, mentally, between screens to make sure you don't get hit by them.

Fuck. Contra 4.

Plus, the original draft for the game was incredible. I kind of wish Atlus never stepped in.

It was obviously made for 10 year old girls, not 20-something neckbearding manchildren.

This game is wasted potential
>>260261671

OK this one makes me sad. I went into the game expecting each enemy and character etc. to have an actual 'code' to them, that you'd decipher by changing and replacing and removing parts to see what they represented and did in conjunction etc. Insstead it was tetris. With a very bland combat system. Still finished the shit out of it, I really wanted to love that game
>>260263359
Not worth suffering through at all, it's all in the story - which is fucked up six ways through sunday by a terrible translation job. the fight scene things are fuck awful.

Basically the protagonist was a sword, and you would play as the people who wielded it throughout history. It was supposed to have a different timeline setup. Instead of being two parallel timelines, there would be a graph iirc.

Also Stocke was going to just be a generic assassin who used the sword briefly.

Sometimes you just see a game sitting on the shelf and you know it's a winner. Lock's Quest is one of those games.

Great story, good music, awesome gameplay mechanics and nice style. Surprisingly long, unique game. And that secret developer's room. Came with a free comic too.

My only complaint about this game is sometimes you get graphical glitches and freezes but otherwise very good game.

After beating it I've decided I'm never touching it again, this game was fucking infuriating. It wouldn't have been so bad if they didn't have a pointless lives system and they didn't make you lose the loot you got when you died, both of which only serve to piss you off if you die, which will happen frequently with it's cheap fall deaths and enemy placement. Plus their speech sounds are terribly annoying, I never thought I'd be able to tolerate it.

Great use of spirtes in a 3D world, good voice acting, solid music. gameplay was good (gamebreaking if you chain a certain way, but you don't have to.) and a plot 4chan would love (you want to destroy the world and kill all the furries.)

Been meaning to play that, but I've heard people saying that the story winds up with a ton of dissonance to the feel of it due to some of the original script being cut and changed (both in Japan and the west) due to being too dark, and as such the game can't seem to decide fully what tone it wants.
