Would not be the first time this has happened. STI (The co-developers on Sonic 2 and 3&K, pretty much Sonic Team USA) was working on Sonic Xtreme and SoJ was working on Sonic Adventure for the Saturn (Which got bumped up to the Dreamcast) at the very same time.

I get the feeling they know how bad Sonic Boom is and is trying to do preliminary damage control (Pretty poorly, I might add).

1. The game needs to be out for this fall to tie-in to the TV show (the only way this game is going to sell is if retarded kids fall in love with the "lolsorandumb" humor of the show

2. It would take a LOT more than just "tweaking" and reworking a few areas to make this even acceptable. The game concept is just wrong, it's been implemented in really poor way and even on the most basic technical level the game is fucked. Who thought CryEngine would be good idea for this? An engine that has no splitscreen support for a game that focuses on multiplayer co-op? It's also struggling to stay at 30FPS with the PS2-tier textures it's loading.

Everything they could have done wrong, they have. It's almost an achievement frankly.

Mirrors Edge is the definitive parkour game. They can add parkor like elements (grabbing ledges, quickly hopping between roofs) but the core gameplay should be about going fast like in unleashed, colors, and generations. The engine you use doesn't determine the assets a game uses. It does determine some things but you could most likely make a phone game in Cryengine 3 just like you can do in Frostbite and UE4. If the developers use shitty assets and don't use the engine to its potential it doesn't matter what engine they use. The game being made in Cryengine 3 doesn't automatically make it intensive to run.

Boosting is meh. The only game I thought that got the super speed thing right was the very first attempt: Sonic Advance 2. I liked that mostly because it felt like you were pushing Sonic to go that fast. The other attempts just had a boost button that you hit and suddenly Sonic is racing through the landscape and plowing through all the obstacles (Sonic Advance 2 didn't make you invulnerable during top speed).

It feels too derivative and thoughtless. It wasn't as amazing as actually hitting that top speed on your own.

I still say 3D-wise Sonic Adventure was the best attempt. It's not platform-oriented enough but everything else about the way Sonic handled felt correct. If they made the levels more platform-focused then that would be about as good as you could make Sonic in 3D.

Rise of Lyra was so fucking broken that it crashed any console it was loaded on so fucking hard that it required disconnecting the console from the powersource entirely.
