If the difference between pieces of armor is just damage resistance, I tend to go with the better looking stuff, but I hate when you have to worry about aesthetics, damage resistance, weight, and any special abilities the equipment might give you. I ended up playing through most of Dark Souls 2 wearing the Jester's gloves and leggings and the prisoner's tatters and hood because their abilities made them seem too useful to use anything else. I just want more games to let you pick the stats of one piece of equipment with the appearance of another.
