Yes, but emulators make things extremely conveninent. Today you can emulate so many systems on a tiny device, even Dreamcast stuff on a smartphone, Gamecube emulation seems to have a promising future on mobile, in 5 years who knows how it will be.
These days you can carry and emulate entire libraries of multiple consoles in your pocket.
