I feel that the creators came up with the idea of the robots first and then worked the game around them. I mean, you've got four different animatronics to keep an eye on, so walking around and not instantly dying would be a damn tough objective. You'd need to make the bots have less of an influence over the game's design which of course then makes it Slender with robots.

I was thinking about the game having exploration, but it did segue into Unity Engine horror in my mind. The only way I can see it working is if you were inside of a theme-park, trying to solve mysteries. Occasionally, the animatronics would awaken and you would need to fend them off in a security booth like you do in this game.
The final boss is the Disney Haunted House that tries to kill you while searching for Walt Disney's cyborg head.

According to the tidbits found within the game, the fox animatronic was responsible for biting off a kid's frontal lobe decades ago, which is why it's department got closed and the animatronic looks in state of decay.
All others are hinted to be posessed, either by some malevolent force, or spirits of children that were killed by a worker of that pizza parlor and their corpses stuffed within these animatronics.
The protagonist is some guy who took up a job of night shift watch, although it becomes pretty evident he's just a lure to keep these animatronics from escaping.
