its a pretty fun beat em up and couch coop game evn if it wasnt everything i wanted. characters all feel distinct to use. Kamitani's art is always nice. Vanillaware food porn. you fight the vorpal bunny from Monty Python as a boss.

the art is beautiful, the gameplay is fucking outstanding for 2d beat 'em up, completely outclassing shadows over mystara. all the classes play very differently and everything has its niche. the enemy types are varied and the bosses are pretty fun. for replayability, there's higher difficulties, a 100 floor endgame dungeon, and later a literally infinite dungeon with maximum overlevelled enemies

I think the reality is that all beat-em-ups are just that, boring.
However, I think Dragon Crown really stretched the genre as far as it could possibly go. The variety of characters, the cooperative elements in multiplayer, duels, and the ability to outfit your character. I think it was an excellent game. I got a solid 40+ hours out of it.
Easily one of the best of its genre.

SOR2, Final Fight 3, Aliens vs. Predator, Undercover Cops and Sengoku 3 are actually pretty legit because of the nice varied moveset everyone gets and how you can do a wide variety of combos.
It also helps that you don't lose your character in the background.
As beautiful as the artwork is, it's way too busy and gets pretty noisy when you have 4 player characters and then a shit ton of enemies flooding the screen.

It has glorious story, characters, music and art. The gameplay is pretty basic beat em up and gets INSANELY repetitive, because you play essentially the same levels and bosses with all five characters. Also, it's pretty fucking hard at times.
It's a fun game you play in short doses. Like Mario Kart. Turn it on for 30 minutes to just kill some time in a few online stages/races.

I wanted to play the whole thing offline, which is where I have my one irreconcilable complaint - from infernal difficulty on up, the flawed buddy AI can no longer keep up with the power creep. Below infernal, its the best anyone can expect - but past infernal, friendly AI will get fucking mauled by the upgraded bosses.
I know that the game was made for multiplayer, but as an offline game its pretty much a complete package. I like it enough to recommend it to someone who would be interested in arcade brawlers.

A pretty solid 2D beat em up with really well thought out mechanics and a fantastic setting.
Each dungeon feels unique and different from the last.
Its biggest strength and weakness is its sheer amount of content. It can get a little overwhelming at times and it has actually been the cause of me taking breaks from it, but at the same time you will probably never 100% it.
If you don't like or don't play beat em ups don't go out of your way to get it, but if you are interested it's worth your money.

you might be too early for that to be a thing. it might not be available until you do all the levels once, but after the gate breaks, you can do runs that don't end at the boss fight. you can keep going to the next stage, and the next, and every time you do so you get a little bonus multiplier to either loot quality, loot rank, money, or exp. these cap out at 200% money and xp, and i forget for the other two. this means that once you get that shit maxed you make mad dosh by continuing a run. having lots of bags of gear is necessary for that

I don't get what you mean to say, all beat em ups are repetitive. This one actually does a good job to make you wanna come back for more with both ending dungeons and the ultimate story mode. To beat that you need good gear you can get on those endgame dungeons so there's at least incentive to play through them

My current elf buld (lvl 135) revolves massively around the bows and daggers.
I got pretty much every bow skills maxed up, the create daggers skill maxed, and the backstab crit skill maxed.
When going this route you MUST get the common skill that gives you a chance that using an item won't lower its stock.
On the field it translate like this: rely heavily on picking up crossbow/daggers, when not use your bow, and summon daggers when you can't pick some up and need to deal massive damage to tough enemies.
I highly recommand a high crit damage and high luc based equipement with such build.
Farming for the necklace that gives you either crit damage or 1 damage is mandatory.
In my opinion it's one of the funniest and most rewarding build to play, dealing so much damage. I'm not sure but I got the feeling that I outclass most of the wizards I play with DPS wise.

it's on ps+ for both systems. smooth framerate and higher res makes the game look sexy as hell. just don't expect to be finding those shinies, hitting those glyphs, or cooking food anywhere near as quickly

It's free on both. The PS3 version is pretty good, but you don't have a touchscreen anymore, so treasure hunting, runes and cooking is way more difficult.
